me dad worked at Easington colliery as a deputy in the high main E Seam as well as all three of my uncle's, two down the pit and one on the surface, both my grandfathers also worked at easington, once again one on belt line repairs and the other on the surface. I can remember this place as a kid as I always watched the British rail loco's getting filled with coal in the rapid loading rail bunker, or waiting for me dad to come off shift as I would stand at the bottom of tower street near the medical house at the double blue metal doors and watch them heading up into the pit baths to get washed and then getting surprised as he came out the other double blue doors at the top end of tower street, happy times :)

what a wonderfull video.i used to be a loco driver at a yorkshire pit before it closed in 1992.i took a few pics of myself on the loco and some pictures of the coaches.there are some pictures of one of the sets of booster fans we had.i hope to put them on here at some point and also a loco refresher course that was done on the pit top.my dad was born in easington colliery but came with the rest of his family down to yorkshire when his dad was looking for work here.after the war where he served in burma also went down the pit.we visited easington colliery once(late 60s-early-70s)? whilst stopping at his cousins at appleby grammar school where his cousin and her husband were the caretakers.the pit was still working then.his mums maiden name was tones(townes).has anyone got that name at easington? is so we may be related.thank you for posting.

How did they do that, train dolphins down the pit like? 9 minutes and 40 seconds in.

My dad was also a shaft man at Easington until he died in 1975. I worked on the low main until 1981 when I moved to Canada.
