英德市是中華人民共和國廣東省下轄的縣級市，由清遠市代管。位於廣東省中北部，京廣鐵路線上，是廣東省面積最大的縣級行政區。
英德有人類活動的歷史可追溯至10萬年以前，早在舊石器時代晚期，今英紅鎮雲嶺獅石山牛欄洞裡就生活著一群原始先民。新石器時代早期，在今青塘鎮四周的石灰岩溶洞中居住著一群原始先民，即青塘遺址。
西元前206年至西元前195年間，南越國設湞陽（今英中、英東地區及翁源及新豐、佛岡部分地區）、含洭（今英西地區）2縣。是為英德構建之始。南越歸附中原後，湞陽、含洭2縣同屬荊州桂陽郡。
主要河流為北江及其支流連江、滃江。
北江，市境南端以上集雨面積3.40萬平方公里，多年平均徑流量155.8億立方米，其中汛期為115.8億立方米，佔全年的74.3%。滃江，集雨面積1,289.5平方公里，多年平均徑流量49.8億立方米，其中汛期為39.5億立方米，佔全年的79.3%。連江，集雨面積2572.4平方公里，多年平均徑流量103.4億立方米，其中汛期為84.04億立方米，佔全年的81.2%。
在北江幹流上建有飛來峽水庫（壩址位於清新縣，英德為庫區）、白石窯水庫。
英德市主要有客家話和廣州話（含廣州次方言）兩大類。
客家話分佈於英東，使用人口約佔全市戶籍人口的64.0%。
廣州話主要分佈於英城街道及英中、英西的部分鎮。廣州次方言有附城話（源自客家話，異於客家話，也異於廣州話），還有九龍話。廣州話和廣州次方言的使用人口約佔全市戶籍人口的29.0%。
浛洸鎮的華壩、花管灘、魚咀壩3個自然村的人口原籍潮汕，現內部仍使用潮州話。全市瑤族5000多人，使用瑤族語言。英紅、英華、黃陂3個華僑茶場使用國語。

Yingde City is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province, People's Republic of China, and is administered by Qingyuan City. It is located in the north-central part of Guangdong Province, on the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway Line, and is the largest county-level administrative region in Guangdong Province.
Yingde has a history of human activities dating back to 100,000 years ago. As early as the late Paleolithic Age, a group of primitive ancestors lived in the Niulan Cave of Shishi Mountain in Yunling, Yinghong Town. In the early Neolithic Age, a group of primitive ancestors lived in the limestone caves around Qingtang Town, namely the Qingtang Site.
Between 206 BC and 195 BC, the Nanyue Kingdom established two counties, namely Zhenyang (now Yingzhong, Yingdong areas and Wengyuan, Xinfeng, and parts of Fogang) and Hanluo (now Yingxi area). This was the beginning of the establishment of Yingde. After Nanyue returned to the Central Plains, the two counties of Zhenyang and Hanluo belonged to Guiyang County, Jingzhou.
The main rivers are the Beijiang River and its tributaries Lianjiang River and Hongjiang River.
Beijiang River, with a catchment area of 34,000 square kilometers above the southern end of the city, has an average annual runoff of 15.58 billion cubic meters, of which 11.58 billion cubic meters are in the flood season, accounting for 74.3% of the year. Hejiang River, with a catchment area of 1,289.5 square kilometers, has an average annual runoff of 4.98 billion cubic meters, of which 3.95 billion cubic meters are in the flood season, accounting for 79.3% of the year. Lianjiang River, with a catchment area of 2,572.4 square kilometers, has an average annual runoff of 10.34 billion cubic meters, of which 8.404 billion cubic meters are in the flood season, accounting for 81.2% of the year.
Feilaixia Reservoir (the dam site is located in Qingxin County, and Yingde is the reservoir area) and Baishiyao Reservoir are built on the main stream of Beijiang River.
Yingde City mainly has two major categories: Hakka and Cantonese (including Guangzhou sub-dialect).
Hakka is distributed in Yingdong, and the population using it accounts for about 64.0% of the registered population in the city.
Cantonese is mainly distributed in Yingcheng Street and some towns in Yingzhong and Yingxi. Guangzhou sub-dialects include Fucheng dialect (derived from Hakka dialect, different from Hakka dialect and Cantonese dialect), and Jiulong dialect. The population using Cantonese and Guangzhou sub-dialects accounts for about 29.0% of the registered population in the city.
