- We're going to get two videos out this week. Lots going on. So here's the updates from week 4a
Thanks to all for your support of our non-profit www.loirevalle... and thanks to those who have supported the chateau reconstruction on Patreon www.patreon.co....
On those windows they make a wood hardener you could put on and help them last much much longer. In addition to some extreme weather paint.
I love both of your attitudes. Rob, unlike many guys I've worked with, seems to have no problem saying, "I'll see what I did wrong and fix it." That's the way to solve all the little and big things that happen on a huge project. Your progress is wonderful to see.
Get the mistletoe out of the tree! It is important, usually people take them out and just keep one or two to take inside for christmas
Rob, I mentioned to my spouse, who is a keen golfer about the club head come off - he said that it’s not unusual because the heads are glued on, even on very good clubs. This can be repaired…. My spouse said that it’s probably something that you would want someone else to do because the head in the hole needs to be cleaned out, the shaft cleaned up, super strong glue, etc… but given the DIYer that you are, maybe you’ll tackle it!
I discovered that same paintbrush a number of years ago and swear by them. They make cutting in so easy and accurate. The basement rooms are looking great.
Tree surgeon Nick as others have suggested for sure. He can help assess everything and likely can take the toppling tree down without removing the fence in addition to dealing with Mistletoe.
I’m dying here😂 We have so much mistletoe in the South it’s a pest! It will kill your tree. Most of the time it’s too late once it gets established. But fertilize your tree and remove as much as possible. This might save your tree. Use it at Christmas if all else fails. Really enjoy your posting early in the day US time. Watch while eating lunch. Y’all are doing a great job. This chateau is so beautiful. The most gorgeous of all those I watch and def the best American’s own.
I just keep seeing things. You need to check out the charity shops. Emmaus (spelling) always has the BEST BUYS! I know the ones Stephanie goes to in Limoges and Chateauroux both have fabulous deal and bargains. I don’t know where you are so it’s hard to give cities near you.
So excited see your videos! You help me motivate get my miniature Chateau repaired but Lord will help us get provisions we need. It’s really a house but old fashioned. I have a river rock retaining wall goes around my front yard. I made stone walkways and garden arches. Lots flowers. Lots oak woodwork in my home and pretty windows in front sitting room. I decorated antiques and chandeliers.
Always a pleasure seeing you both and your beautiful chateau! Oh and Mr. Bingley is adorable!
Thank you so much . Brilliant work you are doing. Take care and keep going x
Awesome Awesome! Was totally surprised when I seen this video during lunch time. ❤ Will have to finish watching this after work. Thanks Rob and Leslie for making my day!😊
The Paint job in the basement looks good 🤗👍🤗
Love Sue ❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
I really love the synergy with the two basement bedrooms. Great colors. I get so tired of hearing how "Old Brown Wood Furniture" is passe, and no one wants it anymore. Well, if you have a mid-century tract house in a big city, maybe not. I think it's great, and I already some great pieces from my grandparents. I admit I'm a bit envious that you have space to buy all of the fancy beds and armoires you can find, and are still looking for more! :)
So fun to find an entry midweek! Always love seeing the progress, and thank you for bringing us along on your adventures! 😍
Rob, Your Father in Law would be so proud of the repairman you have become and how well you treat his beautiful daughter.
Pleasant Surprise to see a video today!
Love your videos, look forward to each one! Love Mr, Bingley. I love that paint brush also Leslie, I use it when I paint.
Okay s from what I've seen on the other channels this is mistletoe and it is invasive and chokes out the trees. Try to get rid of as much as you can. The place is looking great!! God bless and keep you in your endeavors.
It's nice to see you working hard but also taking time for yourselves. Well done!
You guys are getting better and better at this video stuff. My husband and I love what you two are doing at the Chateau and the purpose. It's a treat watching it transform. (Also, Rob, when you broke the golf club!😂) Anyway,God bless ❤
Don't give up, I think there should be a good glue to put the golf club back together. After all they are glued together to begin with. The window prices make up for the petrol costs. Basement is looking great so far. Those solar lights outside may need new batteries. The batteries don't last that long. Just a thought. Best wishes
That basement is looking beautiful! 👌Leslie, you have inspired me to stencil one of my bedrooms.
You can be quite brutal with your roses. The one that is struggling can be cut quite hard back and will come back healthier as its showing signs of new growth at the base. Great work guys! 👍👍
Seeems like you would want to seal the inside of the toilet so the bowl doesn’t get rusty. So cool that the armoires come apart for moving.
I Love your attitude about life Leslie you always see the best in everything ❤️
So happy the hedge looks healthy this year.
On the solar lights you have to spend a little more and get ones that have a stronger light. I use them for security at night and I had to pay about $30 each for the ones that are very bright and last longer into the night. The smaller ones like you have my neighbors used and they don’t give off much light and do not last very long at night.
We have mistletoe in Virginia. And I can look out of my window as I type and see it in all the tall trees around my front yard and up and down the street in my neighbors yards. It is probably too cold for it in Canada or Washington State. It grows in the tallest trees so we just let it grow.
You two are simply Adorable! I'm so happy i found your video and can follow yous on your beautiful Journey of your Chateau. Love everything yous have done and i love your sense of humor. Take good care and Thankyou 🇨🇦 ❤
Fun video! Thanks for the extra one. Because of you, we're learning French! On Duolingo! 🇫🇷🇺🇲
Mid-week treat! Thank you so much.
what a lovely surprise to see you guys here during the week! 🌸 thanks for the update, and bring on spring!!
You are beautiful people no matter how unshowered or grungy you are! Love to see you 2x a week! C*E*L*B*R*A*T*I*O*N* 🎉
One of my favorite channels . ❤❤
Good to see what you have been doing. Always a lot. Blessings.
Great job brushing the inside of tank, but anti rust coating on inside of tank was a perfect opportunity while it was down and dry. Great day job.
After the shower debacle I don't trust your tree measurements! 🤣
I'll say it again, this season's format is great! Nice quick moving and entertaining.
Great work on the windows! Sorry you got cut but you're right, working with glass is tricky. I love watching your progress!
Like the format this year. You both have a huge task with the chateau. I can see that you are starting to take more time to enjoy the days and hopefully it makes the hard jobs easier.
Texas here. We have mistletoe everywhere. It takes over the trees. It’s impossible to remove from large trees. Cut it down and is what we are told.
Golf clubs can be re-shafted. My husband does his fairly often. New grips are nice too. We mail order shafts and grips.
I live in Kentucky and we have mistletoe in our trees. I don’t take it off but it hasn’t spread all over the tree. Usually you have one clump per tree.
Enjoyed your video as always. Great progress. Nice thrift finds. The Armour for 75 dollars is beautiful. Im looking for one for my home but no good deals as of yet. Blessings.
Great video Nicely put together video, the toilet need's a rust inhibitor then seal with a waterproof paint etc.A good chandler will have high lead crystal that chandler looked like a cheap modern version.
Nice weather makes everything better. Rob, your health and safety officer says ladders and flip flops don’t mix.
We had trouble with fleas on our dogs and changed from monthly back of the neck spot on that was not working, to a chewable tablet (dosage based on dogs weight) that lasts three months called Bravecto. Definitely recommend.
You both are making such good progress. It’s super exciting.
Hola from Honduras! Always enjoy your videos & looking forward to Story Sunday! 😊
My mum always says you should get your worst enemy to prune your roses, they’ll cut them back harder than you would dare!
That’s funny 😂😂😂
It’s way late to be hard pruning roses. We could have done that before they left last year; she’d be horrified if I’d done it…right back to stock.
Loving your videos/journey as fellow believers my husband & I and I’d love to find a way to have a conversation with you as we too have a dream of owning a Chateau in France but as a service to ‘broken abused people’ and I believe the Lord has led us to you 🙏🏼
Nice to have you both back doing videos.
Get Frontline plus or semester collar for your dog to keep fleas and ticks at bay nothing worse than fleas on the dog and in the house can cause healthissues. Otherwise great job all around
We have it in North Carolina. My daughter had it in some trees and they cut it out.
Mistletoe is a problem here in Texas. I seems to like certain trees over others.
Sadly, I think it's too late for your tree. Mistletoe, left unchecked, eventually kills the host tree. It is a parasite. I'm not aware of anything that can kill it without killing the host too. It's spread by birds.
There's mistletoe in trees all over Oregon. The little berries explode and the liquid inside sprays through the air to other trees and then it starts growing on them, too. Eventually, the trees die. Traditionally, you kiss under it at Christmas.
When I heard you say, “lots of weeding”, I was just so anxious to fly over again.
The cardboard and wood chips are holding up well.... much much better than before.
Mistletoe grows in the trees of Texas, USA. It's damaging to the trees. You have to cut it out for Christmas decorations 😘.
The child photobombing you in the restaurant made me laugh 😂 It’s as if they were saying, “What’s going on back there!?” 😂 Everything is looking great guys!
Thank you so much for the extra video!!!
Enjoyed from Texas!
I would really like to see you working in covered and sturdy shoes Rob. Have seen too many accidents and those slip in shoes are a really great risk of slip or trips.
We have mistletoe in the US, especially in the east. As it is a parasite, it will kill trees. Try to get it out whenever you see it. Good luck!
Mistletoe is all over the place here in Kentucky. It’s a Christmas tradition to cut it and hang it then steal a kiss under the mistletoe. You seriously didn’t know that? And the Christmas song I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus underneath the mistletoe last night is a popular song.
Regular petrol is about $2.42 per litre here in NZ at the mo...... been much higher in the past too.....
Thanks for the midweek video!!!
Hi Rob and Leslie, re your leak. You can cut the copper pipe and feed pvc pipe down through the copper. If it branches to another spigot, then you would have to cut and terminate with a pvc t piece at that point. Hope this helps. It will save you digging up the floor. Graham
That is a good idea.... and would be soooo much quicker and easier
Lovely video folks!
Great surprise for me when I saw you post!
Hello friends,
Mistletoe does grow in the USA 🇺🇸. Your tree is in a giant need of cutting the stem and the mistletoe off and directly into a sealed bag and to the local “dump”, right away.
Mistletoe has no roots, it lives by getting on, usually trees, and drink the life out of the tree. People romanize the mistletoe at Christmas time. People put it up in doorways and whomever is under it has to kiss you if you are also under it. Picking mistletoe and taking it wherever only serves to spread its spores:seeds around to a place it’s never been.
The mistletoe in your tree will spread to other trees.
Mistletoe is a parasite!
I hate to say this but it may be that tree has to come down just so it won’t become a parasite to other beautiful trees in your garden.
I do know that mistletoe in Southern California has a two fold problem: one-it’s favorite tree is oak; two-Live Oaks are a protected tree. Live Oaks are a specific Oak Tree.
The moment you see even one batch in the tree it must be removed. One spot of mistletoe can get five feet in width and can become large, fifty pounds. They have little white flowers. I don’t know for sure but it may be that it spreads itself around by their seeds. The spores or seed only need to grow in the tiniest spot to tuck into on the host tree and start zapping the life out of the tree.
It was mentioned by Rob about the ivy strangling the life your trees, I consider this type of ivy a parasite also. You can cut it through at ground level but the plant has to be completely removed especially if it’s clinging onto the tree. It’s roots cling for however long it takes it to get roots into the tree. I promise you won’t hurt your tree if you have to hit the climbing part with an axe. Doing this is how you can get a worthwhile grip on it to get it off.
I just wish you two all the blessings God can pour out on you and your home.
I know this is long, but I want to tell you of another parasite I’ve encountered. It’s called dodder (??sp) it looks like orangish stiff spaghetti laying on a plant. I’ve only seen it on low growing bushes. I hope you never have to deal with that.

There are UA-cam instructional videos on using the Pythagorean Theorem to measure the height of a tree (or anything else). All you need is a measuring tape.
I love the French architecture the main reason I love that hotel in Quebec City, The Fairmont, up on the hill so French.
Wow, gas is pricy.. we’re at 135 in Edmonton at the moment & I thought that was bad! Apparently not!
The mistletoe is sucking the life out of your tree. Two options : 1/ spend a lot of time taking each one out 2/ cutting back the tree. In parts of France its actually protected (it is beautiful after all, and if you kiss under it you will surely marry :-)
Toilet-- Could you put some kind of (plastic?) insert inside the tank so the water wouldn't be making contact with the cast iron? I believe the guy on 'The 2nd Empire Strikes Back' channel did something like that on his Victorian pull chain toilet.
Don’t let the tree fall and damage the chateau. Take it down x
Just watching the update and at 20.03 when Leslie is cutting the roses look on the wall close to the camera u can see a Lizard in the sun .
I enjoyed this video!
You’re not as smart as you look? Come on Rob, you’re brilliant and I’m proud of how you figure out to do the things you’ve never done before! Besides, my son is working on his 3rd year in a PhD program to be a university professor and I know how smart you have to be. He actually has taught an online course or 2 , at a Sask. Christian university.
Ps it's called seresto and it is a collar
Maybe you will expand your ministry to solo travellers (40’s and up ) who would love to fellowship with other believers, diving into the word in your beautiful chateau and take some time to travel around France ? Just a thought 😉
I don't know if you are following other chateau shows or how far you are from other chateaus, but Phil from Chateau Life has some beds for sale , you might want to ask him about them if he still has them.
💙💙
Ha ha ha … golf club.
Leslie… where can I find stencils like you used on the walls?
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😊
WOW GREAT JOBS LOVE ALL 🙃🙃🤩🤩😍😍😇😇
