  • This video demonstrates how to jump the motors to adjust a power seat with a 12V car battery and how to remove the motor assembly that controls the sliding of an 8 way power seat for GMC Jimmy / Sonoma and Chevy S10 / Blazer. Likely applies to other Chevrolet / GM models.
Couldn't find any good information on UA-cam or forums, hope this helps somebody!

Just a word if caution for people who do not know much about batteries and those exposed metal probes. Be extremely careful and DO NOT allow those metal probes to touch each other. At 12 volts it is not really an electrocution issue, but a burn issue with up several 100 amps. Arc flash and flying molten metal which can occur nearly instantly. I do the same thing, but with very little exposed metal tips to reduce the possibility of a short circuit.

Can you replace the drivers seat motor with the passengers seat motor?

Sorry, I do not know about finding new motors. We usually have a plethora of good used options at our local junk yard.

How do you get the dang seat out when the motor is fully forward and not working?

The shaft that comes out of the motor is flexible - you can carefully disconnect the plastic tube by bending it out. Once the shaft is disconnected from the motor you can put it in a power drill and use your drill as the motor per se, to move the seat front or back. Your results may vary, I know it's possible but I wasn't able to do it without breaking anything. The reason we made this video was I had broken the motor assembly when I pulled a pair of seats from the junkyard and needed these assemblies to swap in. The safest way would be to use a battery pack to jump the power connector under the seat and operate it as intended. There are wire diagrams online on forums.

What are the wires you use called that are hooked to the battery?

They were just some probes off a multimeter we improvised.

@@McDubz lol, I have since gotten the seat to move back by using a 24v battery and attaching it directly to the power to the seat. I cannot remember which wires, but I do remember one was orange. Seat could not wait to move back with 24v going to it.
I'm not mad at the truck anymore. Lmao
