    I am a native Marylander. If "glaciers that are melting in Greenland and sea level rise" are causing Smith island to be reclaimed by nature how come the cities of Baltimore and Annapolis aren't under water? The problem is erosion the same problem exits on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

    Spent a week there a few years back. My wife and I were on Kayaks all over the island. Early one morning we got lost in a gut and thought we would never find our way out. Great quiet place with friendly people. We have Smith Island Cakes shipped to us a couple times a year. Visit Smith and Tangier Islands before they are gone.

    I live on the East Coaist. The water level remains the same the last 40 years. Water levels are NOT rising, the island is sinking just like Holland Island.

      What a shame that ACTUAL MEASUREABLE readings, and Science overrule your persona antidotes.

      @@McSpacerson FYI .. most of science is mixed with lies. Ive been right on the ocean coast all my life in NovaScotia and i cant see any difference in the tide lines. Im over 40 now. Something strange is going on. Wish i could tell you what, but you would not hear me. those walnut and other hardwood roots is part of the proof. The world is changing and no one sees it. Its retro active. And we only see the physical in one direction. Be very thankful u left on the island servived ... cause I think many 1000s around you didnt. Its likely your strong spiritural strengths that saved you all. Im not a real spiritual person ... electronics tech in fact..... But i have seen some truth of it all......Some day you will understand

    Smith Island has been eroding for more than 100 years. It has nothing to do with "climate change." There are other reasons why islands "sink." If we could go back 100 years, people living on the island would say that the island was much larger in the past. If we go back 200 years, people would say that the island was larger in the past.

    I'm proud to announce that we are here and are still not sunk. Also, we are not seeing the rise of sea level you spoke of.

      My son is doing a project on ways to protect an preserve the island it's crazy what erosion is doing to y'all's home :(

    • @jackandpicklesvlogs
      @jackandpicklesvlogs 3 роки тому +1

      @@ashlee895 Honestly, it's really not eroding badly. We have the protection of marsh lands, smaller islands and jetties that take the impact first. I'd be happy to help if you need more information.

    At least the island still above sea levels. In New Orleans, we are 15 ft under sea level. I know exactly what the island people going through.

    Mistake number one; it's Crisfield not Criswelled MD.
    Mistake number two; The main reason the island is sinking is because of subsidence.
    Mistake number three; Smith is not the last inhabited island in the state of MD. Kent and Wye island are just two of the other inhabited islands in MD.

    Whenever I hear the “ sea levels are rising “ nonsense ? I remind myself that all those buildings going up in Miami are financed by banks & insured .. no bank or insurance company would invest or insure something that is going to be compromised by rising sea levels & they can afford to hire the premium experts in the field

    Sinking or is the water being filled in with dirt? Channels are dredged constantly but where is the dirt coming from that fills them in? Developers have to build sediment ponds and stabilize disturbed dirt and keep silt fencing but what about farms?

    looks like you are not sinking. you are having years of normal erosion. water eating away at the shore line with hurricanes. heavy rains with run off, high tides, all is causing wear and erosion on your shore lines. normal living.
