FYI to others, like myself, who are stethoscope newbies. This thing has to be "turned on", believe it or not. Not batteries (there are none), but there is an acoustic valve between the head and the tubing. The head has to be "twisted" about 90° (rotated about the axis of the tubing) to open the acoustic valve: grip the metal tip at the end of the tubing, then twist the head (there are detents so it takes some extremely small amount of force to do this). I was astonished. And I've never seen this described in the Littman manual or other information. An LPN showed me today on her Littman stethoscope.
Hi there - thanks for your comment! Instructions on indexing the double-sided chestpiece can be found both in your stethoscope's manual and on our website. To rotate to the correct side, select the Active Side of the Chestpiece: A mark on the stem identifies which side of the chestpiece is acoustically active, and rotate the chestpiece to change which side is active. Use the large side of the chestpiece for adults, and the small side for pediatric or thin patients, around bandages, and for carotid assessment. You can copy and paste this link here: s.3m.com/3raxec for more information or reach out to us via social or our website and our Customer Care team will be happy to send you a digitized copy of the Classic III Stethoscope manual. Thank you!
Just started as a volunteer ambo. About to pick one up because I'm sick of getting blisters in my ears from using cheap stethoscopes! It's also a status symbol...

Those pediatric diaphragms are impossible to remove. Also my question: does the Littman adjustable diaphragm replace the need for a bell in detecting bruits?
Zachary Moses- It’s very easy, just pinch the rim and pull up. The pediatric diaphragm should be removed and replaced with the other sleeve to convert to a traditional bell.

My tunable diaphragm is stuck, what should I do ?
How to hear low pitch heart sounds in paediatric patients, since this steth has dual diaphragms,
I can't asses s3, s4 heart sounds with this steth..
Nice to hear there are no phthalates included.
How do you change out the earpiece?
I’ve been trying to pop/rotate the piece off with no luck :(
