Think you would really enjoy the buiild process, any of the modern 1/100 scale master grade kits are a great place to start for an experienced model guy like yourself. I recommend the RX78-2 ORIGIIN for a classic looking model with great modern poseability. (Just incase you do decide to get one, once you pop, you can't stop.) :)
It's probably an issue with the original design of the vehicle. I'm amazing some things can still hinge and move at 1/72 and that more things don't snap on these kits... Also, 1/72 is NOT ideal for everything. I'm amazed they made 1/144 scale work for some of these designs considering I think 1/72 is on the small side for many of these ships, too! I must admit, this is NOT my favorite TIE design. I would have preferred they stick to the "normal" TIE or do one of the EU or videogame designs that was nicer-looking like the TIE Hunter from the Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike game. That was a nice alternative TIE design that was a mix between the TIE Interceptor and the X-wing. The solar panels opened and closed like the S-foils on the X-wing and it was a nice-looking TIE variant. TIE fighters are beginning to get a bit like the Zaku's were in the Gundam shows. There was a Zaku variant for this and that but everybody preferred the pure, mainline Zaku's for hand-to-hand combat over crap variants like the Zaku tank!
Hi! thanks for share! one question: you painted that using vallejo model air, than you used their acrilic wash, after that you wiped the wash using airbrush thinners, there is no chance of you damage the base coat since it is vallejo model air and it is suposed to be thinned with this thinner? now long have you waited after the wash application before to start the cleanning? keep up the greate work! cheers!
Thank you! After painting I protect the paint by using the Tamiya Clear gloss, which isn't affected by water or airbrush thinner, so I can then apply the wash without damaging the paint. After applying the wash I only had to wait a few hours since it's the middle of summer here and very hot! Usually I'd just leave it over night. Hope that helps. :)

Thank you! All my clear coats are Tamiya spray cans, I don't show it because I need to spray out in the garage. I use all sorts of random brushes, whichever one fits the best. I usually get them from my local stationery shop.
What is the purpose of using gloss before weathering? Why not just weather over paint then do a matte finish? Also, do you use ventilation when spraying inside? Thanks, love the videos!

Nice kit. Wanted to let you know that I finally figured out the wash situation on my figure. I got it to stay on and after that I used the tamiya weathering master. It took the kit along way forward

I'm just curious man, is there anything wrong with not painting these models? Your work is amazing, don't get me wrong at all. I just like my fighters to look factory new as if they were never yet piloted. Is that how they would look without paint? I ask this because I really would like to get the TIE Fighter, Interceptor, and the A wing.
Yes of course, they're all molded in different colours so you can just build them without paint. I just prefer to paint mine to give them all a consistent finish with all my other builds. How you choose to build these models is completely up to you!

Did both Xwings, the Awing, and Tie Advanced Prototype, and those fit issues is downright shocking! Didnt have any of that on my other models. Also noticed they re-used a LOT of the other tie parts, but that may just be due to the design of the Tie itself with interchangeable parts. Do you think this one was rushed and didnt get the attention as the rest? Hope they have a Bandai U-Wing.
I really wish I knew what caused the various flaws, it might just be a fluke, or like you say it might have been rushed. I guess we'll see how other new kits hold up. Yeah there's a 1/144 U-Wing and TIE Striker set coming out, hopefully there's a 1/72 version in the works too.
Do you have to apply another coat of gloss between doing the decals and the wash? I'm wondering if wiping away the excess wash with thinner risks the decals or not.
Sadly this might not be a one off. I just snapped together the new AT- AT and found some questionable fit unlike previous Bandai kits to the point it needed glue, sanding (on the nubs from large gates) and shortening of some of the connector pins to get an acceptable fit before any paint/weathering gets near it.

OK thanks. Thought so. Not sure mine goes that high, usually at around 18-20 I think. Anyway allows me to slowly add colour, and maybe reduce the number of mistakes :-)

I've made a few already, but the the X-Wing model is plainly too white, so I've started watching videos like yours to learn how to make it appear aged. This one and the interceptor you build the wings I'm debating should I wait for a rerelease of vaders tie see if they change up the wings or should I get the one that's out now after all I could be waiting forever
Nice. I just bought a bunch of the vallejo air colours. I've heard that the acrylic paints can clog in the airbrush due to the air pressure drying the paint to soon inside the nozzle. Do you have this issue? Do you use a thinner or a retarder to help "wet" the needle and avoid clogging?
Yeah I usually purchase my Bandai kits through a Japanese based seller on trademe.co.nz, but if you're not in NZ then my second go-to place is this seller on eBay, they rotate stock around quite often so if you don't see it there then it's worth looking again later. www.ebay.com/usr/gundam-shop-japan?rt=nc
The Striker should have slightly more wear and tear than other TIE's because it's an in-atmosphere fighter. The other ships typically don't survive more than one hit from an enemy fighter before turning to scrap, so they would most likely be in pristine condition. The Striker, however, was a slightly tougher ship, and was used within atmosphere much more than a standard TIE.
I would like to see bandai release a tie bomber or some tie fighters out of canon something like a tie defender but i suppose it's the star wars licence
Initially when I heard that Bandai had acquired the licensing for Star Wars model kits, I had mixed feelings; admittedly due to the fact that all I'd ever seen from them was Gundam kits (nothing wrong with them, they're just not my cup of tea as the saying goes). Having seen a lot of builds here on UA-cam, most of that trepidation has been allayed. So much so that, now we've started seeing them in the Midwest US that I picked the A-Wing up and I've very much enjoyed working on it. When I saw they were coming out with this kit (TIE Striker) I was quite excited and am still hoping to get my hands on one at some point along with their version of the U-Wing. All in all it looks like it came out pretty well; I have to say you made applying those tiny decals look amazingly easy. My guess/hope in regards to the flaws in the kit is that since its a new release there are just some bugs to work out. Its still a nice looking kit, its just a bit of a surprise to see that many gaps present. One quick question; did it actually come with clear parts for the canopies and you opted to omit them or where there no clear canopies included?
Cheers! Yeah if there's one thing I love about these TIE Fighters is the easy decals lol. Yeah good point, it does come with clear canopies for the front and roof, I just prefer doing the old studio model style of leaving them out. I've done a few of these TIEs now that I completely took it for granted!
Gloss coat, eww. Never understood why Builders spend so much time to make their kits not look like plastic only to apply a gloss coat that makes it look even more like plastic.
That stuff about not being able to sell the kits in North America with a stand alone pilot is dumb as fuck. It's an "action figure" that doesn't have any moving parts and is glued to a static base? Some shit action figure, the guy can't do anything since he's stiff as a board. Wtf is wrong with these bs rules.
Licenses like Star Wars can be highly contentious. The app for Fantasy Flight Games’ Imperial Assault game was delayed for a long time after a similar app came out for Descent, which is a similar game. The reason that was floating around is because EA held exclusive rights to video and computer games, and the app could have been construed as such, rather than a companion to a board game.

No I usually apply a wash straight onto decals, specially for this kit since the decals are so small.

Cheers! That'll just be the airbrush pressure. Mine's fixed at 30psi and can't be altered because it's just a cheap basic compressor.
