Robert, love all your videos in this one you were very cruel to that fly. 😂 Catch and release! 😆 sorry I couldn't resist. Keep up your awesome work. ✌️
I think people expect the dog to do the expected command after a few attempts at teaching it. I have learned over and over, persistency and consistency and patience cannot be emphasised enough. You say so often that both you and your dog must have fun and it's oroven so true. Remember the dog is learning your language, actions, body language. I try to never give my dog a reason to wonder if she should obey me or come to me. When we finish playing, even when I really didn't want to and it's time to rest or go to sleep all I have to say is "rest time" or "sleep time" and she curls up and goes to sleep. I don't have to say it twice. She is a Labrador only 8 months old. Love your dog unconditionally.
I am a very green dog trainer and I binge watch your videos because they are so helpful. I had to laugh when you said that the theme of your videos/training is obedience. I already know when your answer is going to be obedience because you constantly put so much stress on it. I understand that people often feel they have a unique problem but many questions wouldn't be asked if they actually watched ten to twenty of your videos (both training and questions) beforehand.
question for the next Q&A: how do you teach a protection dog to turn off the protection?, so basically can be social afterwards. I've seen so many videos of trainers doing this where the decoy greets the handler and pets the dog right after appearing to be a threat. What they call a ON and OFF switch. A video on this would be great. Everybody teach how to turn the dog on but not how to turn it off, and I don't mean to release the bite. LOL.
You've stated strongly about dogs wearing non breakaway collars when unattended. How do you feel about the FI collar, especially since it's probably NOT a breakaway, so that a pet can be retrieved?
Regards Chicken Heads.Never use cooked bone it will perforate the gut. Raw bone only please. Great answers . It is all about training and being Fair, Firm and Fun . Thank you Robert : )
My 60+ pound Border Collie will not let anyone trim his nails. We've worked to be able to just touch his feet, but trimming is out of the question. Our vet gives him a general anesthetic for this. This concerned me. I had an idea and the vet was all right with us trying this. I have BJJ training. I controlled my dog just like I would control a person. I put a body triangle on him from the back and a firm but not choking rear naked choke to control his head. I rolled us to his side. That put my head right next to his, and I did my best to comfort him. It worked great.
it is not a BJJ problem ... it is a dog fear problem and a real dog rehabber can guide you to use smarts and not force. A dog is not a BJJ opponent or human. A dog can be CONDITIONED to enjoy nail trims and i have done it. Get pro help.
What do you do if the dog bites at the long line and won't come inside from the yard? So I can't correct her without hurting her. I kind of gave up on long lines unless using it along side a toy. Leash biting was a terrible issue the first year, until I switched to a prong collar and she got some self inflicted corrections for jumping and biting at leash her paw would get tangled prior it was a mess. I still feel if she is on a long leash she might try it if in open fields or grassy areas. Oh, my 2 year old GSD doesn't like thunderstorms either, she barks and gets upset. I suggest relax my dog channel on youtube and play some music to drown out the sound. My dog usually falls asleep with that music. I was surprised. . Thanks for any help!

Hello Robert, love all your videos! Your channel is always a solid go to for dog training! My question is I have a 9 month German Shepherd, he always barks crazy and hackles stand up and trys to advance toward other dogs when he see’s another dog and sometimes people making him look aggressive, But once he can sniff the other dog everything is good. He is not violent has never bitten a person or dog and gets along with all kinds of dogs and plays with other dogs very well at the doggie daycare he stays at while I’m at work. How do I stop this unwanted behavior! Advance would be so much appreciated! Again love all your videos and advice!!!
I can’t find anything out there on how to handle fetch obsession. My dog (springer Spaniel) doesn’t care about treats or anything else when the ball is out. I can get him to “wait” when I throw it and that has been successful. He will play fetch until he passes out. Can you please speak on this?
I am really frustrated. I watched a lot of your videos but I can't start training at all. She doesn't take notice to me. Also she 'tuck' sits on her own ..
Hey thanks for answering my question!! Really appreciate it! I actually have another one for you! Currently our pug is now 18 weeks and we still have an issue with him whining and crying in crate when he wakes up from nap times and sleep schedule. He especially does that after we leave the apartment. He never seems to settle at all in his crate after he wakes up. He jumps up at any sign of someone leaving or passing by the crate. He understands to go to his crate when we tell him, and sometimes he is still reluctant to go in regardless. We have taught him to understand the word "Nope" and "No", and clearly understands we do not like when he disobeys his crate command. Do you have any tips to help curb and calm this whining in the long term as it is starting to make leaving him alone in his crate for even short periods of time Aniexty inducing. Thanks in advance.
Hi Robert, I am in the process of purchasing a puppy out of state. I am wondering how to handle potty breaks (as far as keeping my puppy safe from diseases, specifically parvovirus). I'm terrified of stopping at a rest stop and coming in contact with the virus that way. (I live in Indiana and we are getting him in Texas). Also, when I go to socialize him, I'm very limited on well behaved dogs to get him around. Do you have suggestions for this? Should I take him to a puppy class of some sort to get socialized with other well behaved dogs? I hope this isn't to lengthy. Thank you!

Veran Edits...thanks. Two years ago we got a female Doodle thinking our 6 yr. old Doodle needed a companion. Even though it is getting better the younger female continues to bully the older female. The worst instance happens when someone walks by on the other side of the fence. The older dog has always had a problem with barking at the fence line, she gets pretty worked up. Now, when this happens the younger dog attacks the older dog by biting her on the ass. She has drawn blood before, we have found the scabs...so it isn’t as brutal as it could be. But it still worries us that the pup will injure the older girl. Any advice?

not "being unfamiliar"
dogs do not judge, but they learn prejudice from the dog owner, without understanding
