There is so much more that most people don't know concerning Florida's history and how it directly relates to conditions today. DeSinner gave absolutely NO reason for banning the course at first, and neither could anyone on the board point to one single reason when asked. Then after facing days of backlash & demands that he pin-point his objections, he came back about a week later - not with actual evidence - but with PERSONAL grievances about the course.
Essentially, what he's confessing is that he hates Queer people so damn much, that he can't stomach the idea of even a brief mention of the intersectionality of Queer folks with Black history.
Well, If his overly sensitive snowflake azzzz wants to hate Black history AND queer people, well that's his business. But history doesn't care about one's feelings... It only cares about the facts...!!! History doesn't give a donkey's azzzz if it makes one feel good. It only cares about the facts! Period!
Furthermore, this is a course that's been in the making for 12 long years by many experts in the field. It's already being taught in many states without one single complaint or problem. The real truth is this is just his attempt to politicize something he feels will win him brownie points with the MAGAt crowd in his run for president.
Good luck defending his bigotry in court...!!!

Factz! The same time his people were immigrating in(1904) Colored/Negro cities and towns were getting Massacre, Burned and Drowned by the influx of incoming immigrants from all over Europe and North Africa! This is why he does not want to discuss these topics. Information that teaches the youth the truth would make them (the youth) question the narrative like how were the American Colored/Negros slaves when at the same time Georgia and most of the South had Negros in Congress and General Assemblies during the 1860s-1890. Georgia had a Colored/Negro Senator in 1870 (Jefferson Hamilton Long) ( Republican). You had the Original 33 in Camilla, Ga. Who were the original 33 Colored/Negro Republicans elected to the Georgia Assembly in 1868. Mississippi had a Colored/Negro Senator (Hiram R Revel) (Republican) in 1870. As well as Alabama, Florida, & South Carolina. Also, the all Colored/Negro city of Wilmington, NC was thriving heavily before it was overthrown in a coup in 1898 (VOX has a video about it on UA-cam titled “When White Supremacy Overthrew A Government”. Texas Republican Party was founded by 150 Negros and just 20 Anglo Saxons in 1867. Doesn’t match what we were taught. Also, the Immigrants from European, North African and Asian nations only arrived in the mid 1800s through the 1920s (30 to 40+ Million through Ellis Island and six other ports of entry). This timeframe this up perfectly with the massacres/burnings/drowning of Negro towns and cities in the mid 1800s through the 1930s kind of like a coup of a Nation just as Wilmington, NC 1898. We were taught that the “Union Soldiers” were the good guys but when you research the “Devils PunchBowl” Natchez, MS 1865, you see that Union Soldiers corralled 100k Free Negros (Men,Women,Children) and locked them into a concrete wall concentration camp and worked and starved them to death. “The Union Army did not allow them to remove the bodies from the camp,” Westbrook explained. “They just gave ’em shovels and said bury ’em where they drop.” Now ask yourself, How could 100K+ so called slaves converge onto one city? In Mississippi of all places? Did they have cell phones, Twitter, or Instagram?🤦🏾‍♂️ The city of Natchez was most likely already their city and those houses and the luxuries in Natchez were theirs. I would highly suggest researching all of the Massacres below and with what you know now with regards to the Negros Republicans in running the Republican Party during the 1800s, I would take a lot of the slave narrative with a grain of salt and look at thing from what seems to be a military coup.

I’m originally from New England and have been living in Florida since 2015. I visited here many times while growing up and dreamt of one day, living here. My memories were always happy ones with family and friends. I guess wanting to move here was wanting to feel those same good feelings. However, over these last few years, those feelings have dissipated. I always thought of Florida as a free wheeling kind of state, and at first, that seemed like a good thing. But I was ignorant to a lot of the history of the state. It feels like it’s only free and fair if you agree with the status quo or if your not the “other”. I never considered myself a Democrat, or even a liberal But down here I am a liberal, a yuppie, a woke person and it’s led me to feel very alone. In the DMV, it felt like there was many different points of view but with a general respect of those points of views. I am married now, and the conversation of children is becoming more and more timely for us. I can’t help but to be afraid or concerned about the education that my children would receive in this state. My husband is a firm believer that our children learn not just from the school, but from home. So he is confident that no matter where our children go to school, they will get a well-rounded education. I still have my doubts. I’ve been slowly trying to convince him that we should move out of state. It makes me sad because the state used to bring so much joy to me I have family here he has family here, but we are both originally not from here. He is of Guyanese decent born in London and moved here. When he was 13 years old. I am of Puerto Rican decent born in Massachusetts. Both of us have experienced prejudice and racism throughout our lives here and there. But We are both proud of our heritage and plan on educating our children about both their heritage and many others too. I feel the fact that we have lived in different places throughout our lives especially him being from a different country has given us a lot of space to learn about many different people & cultures. Deep down I truly feel when children are exposed to many different points of view, cultures, people etc they become the best possible version of themselves for society. If that makes sense. Slowly Florida is turning more & more into a space where that isn’t possible or even comfortable. I like to think that it shouldn’t matter where we live, but in my heart, it’s slowly seeming to be almost impossible. Wish me luck on convincing him of moving to a more open minded and loving place.
Thank you Calvin for this exceptional video and educational speech. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Wow! That was one of the most extraordinary presentations, speaking on behalf of our collective sojourn. Well done, Calvin Michaels. You covered an entire graduate course in black American studies.
I often wonder if other scholars have examined what Cheikh Anta Diop reports from his research, whereby he strongly suggests that the European's development of the ethnic European "Other"...its origin traces as early as the end of the 13th Century.
Diop connects a clear nexus between the mythology of "racism" directed at the Moor's stretching through time up to and lasting long after the Tribunal of the Holy Office of the Inquisition, commonly known as the Spanish Inquisition (Inquisición española), established in 1478 by Catholic Monarchs Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile.
Many scholars point to the birth of "Ethnocentric European "Otherism" as being at the heart of the exploitation of black life, which began in the Church with the Doctrine of Discovery "Inter Caetera" issued by Pope Alexander VI on May 4, 1493".
The "Doctrine of Discovery" is the singularity, the advent of racialized slavery. Divergent from all forms of slavery up to and until that point in time, that document and the commandment of the Pope is what became the basis of colonialism and modern European globalization that continues to determine the basis of the formation of the United Nations and permeates all treaties and trade agreements claims is the legal instrument that plagues black life today. When the Pope ordered the Christian armies to "put the African people into perpetual slavery" and "to take all their possessions and property."

I have also held that America was not exceptional because their wealth was built upon free labor. Who couldn't be successful with free labor???

LOL! You think America's wealth was built off of slavery?
Your post proves why CRT is garbage and its proponents nothing more than useful idiots.

I’m so appreciative that I had an excellent Black History education in College in NY, in the 80’s and 90’s; excellent black professors who were knowledgeable and current. Also the Libraries were current with All types of books.

Black history lacking educational relevance?... This is not the first time this has been said. It's actually the fight we had to get black history to be taught in schools in the first place. Love this!!! Can't wait to listen again (writing while listening) ...something you said, though in the beginning...That is what has been going on for a very long time. Did you know that Florida and Texas have a lot of curricula that the dept. of ed. bases the foundation of education?

Calvin, thanks for displaying the best of US minus the emotions that most people engage in when discussing race relations, history and education. There is certainly a fear of highlighting our history and what we have contributed in the past and present. "We are American History and We always have value."

The worst part is all the people who go to bat for you, fight for you, make a fool out of themselves telling other people they are wrong about you.
That sucks, because we don't have those problems but we show up.

Much respect. A powerful sweep of Freedmen history in less than one hour.
I never say we “contributed.” Chattel slaves and Freedmen BUILT. Immigrants contributed a little here & there (as did descendants of the Mayflower). But nothing got big without us.

Yeah the Daughters of the Confederacy maintain a Confederate Cemetery in Columbus Ohio which is the largest Confederate Cemetery outside of the American South. These were confederate soldiers that died at Camp Chase which was a training camp / prisoner-of-war camp during the Civil War.

I told my friend about this. shes in Jacksonville and had no clue. that frustrates me to no end. I was and am still pissed. the school board found the class has no educational merit. Ben Crump, FSU alum apparently is filing suit. Grand wizard like u said is doing it as part of the OVERALL strategy. It started with the nonsensical CRT debate and that no woke bill is the outcome. so now they can point to things like the AP class and say that it's illegal. and that's what they did.
