Dropping chains is a chainline issue with your setup. Some cassettes may have a tooth profile which resists dropping (Eagle uses a NW 50/51T) but ultimately you cannot blame the cassette if your chainline is sh!t. Shorter chainstays are more susceptible to this issue. Looking at your setup and how quick the chain drops, I'm going to throw a guess out there and say that is a 2x crankarm, converted to 1x without using chainring spacers.
I upgraded from 1x 8s to 9s and had chain drop issues on front and back pedalling. Solved it by moving the chain ring leftward by adding washers to create space between crank and chain ring and removed spacer from between crank and BB. 3mm movement, problem solved.
my 2020 straight SLX 12 speed groupset also drop chains at half back pedal so no blame at ztto. 1,500kms on the cassettes. Chains are still at 90% health upon inspection by our bike mechanic.
Thank you for your review. I just almost buy a new one Sunshine 11-50 cassette but after watch your review I think better. The new setup will be XT M8000 cassette 11-46 with 30T in chairing. Thank you
Advice: don't waste time explaining basic riding techniques to folks who think they're never done. Anyways, perhaps the chain coming off is due to the chain isn't aligned. For the type of riding I do and will do for a long time, the cheap brand cassettes will do me, highly doubt I'll snap a tooth. Good review. Cheers.
I got about 9 months out of mine before it started skipping . As the two smaller aluminum cogs began to wear the chain started skipping off under load. It never did shift that well through the transition from the steel cogs to the aluminum cogs. Quite a disappointing cluster.
The aluminum teeth are almost twice as thick as the steel teeth, which means that if the chain is not perfectly aligned, they derail. That's always going to happen if you back pedal because only the center gears are aligned with the crankset when you back pedal.
Thanks for these 3 videos. These cassettes certainty look fine, but I would have never imagined such a significant error could happen so easily due to theirs design. I bike-tour and could not tolerate dropping the chain like this. Best regards, and happy cycling!
Sunshine, sugek and Sunrace offer more choices for 9 speeds I bought a Sugek 11-42 9 speed and put it on my friend's bike a few months ago. 443 grams , but works just fine with xt 9 speed derailleur .
If you have this problem on 1x9, then it's likely to be a problem for 1x solutions only, maybe because of the size of the front cog and the its position, which cause too much chain tension, a normal thing in 1x systems that will actually wear the chain more often. I just bought a Sunshine 11-40T 9 speed cassette for my Alivio 2x9 setup, and the only time you see this backpedal problem is having the biggest cog at front and the biggest one at the back, which is a gear ratio you shouldn't be using at all anyway. Using the small cog at front and the biggest at the back the backpedal is minimal, I had to spin my cranks backwards 10 times for the chain to drop, which is negligible in real life scenarios, and if you move to the second biggest cog, there is no chain drop at all.
Seguramente esta mal alineado el offset del plato. Quitando o poniendo separadores a un lado u otro del pedalier se soluciona, no es un problema del cassete,: es un mal montaje.
I have a smaller version 11-40T wide range 9 speed from this same company for my 2x9 setup and the backpedal issue is negligible, you have too spin backwards too many times for the chain to drop using the small cog at front and the 40T at the back. Maybe this specific one is the only one that sucks from the company, and didn't know Sunshine was the same making Ztto cassettes, thanks for the tip!
@@filthyMTB I know, I just made my comment because I saw other people concerned about their other products in the comments, so just want them to clarify from a consumer for anyone in the future that finds this video and had the same doubts (I reached this after a search looking for the Sunshine 11-40 review too 😅)
I dunno man.... I've been riding MTB seriously hardcore for around 27 years and don't recall ever having the need to backpedal any more than around 1/8 turn of the cranks. I guess everybody is different.
Good to know sir ! I have a question if I upgrade in 11 speed 11-50 cassette SunRace and xt rd and xtr shifter and what is your suggestion gold 11 speed chain ?Thanks for in advance on your answer and suggestions.
My road bike does not drop chains but it is rare to back pedal a road bike (Shimano R8000 with 11/36 cassette.). None of my other cassttes drop on initial back pedal. It take multiple consecutive agressive turns to get my XX1 to drop but this is unrealistic. Dripping within a 1/2 turn on a MTB is potentially disastrous.

Hi I just had the exact same experience with the same cassette today. The 11-50t ztto hg 11 speed. 2 teeth just broke off at the first alu sprocket(32t). What did you do / write to get a refound on it from the seller?
@@filthyMTB hmm the ztto official store hasn't answer me yet. I wrote 2 days ago now. I was going uphill shifting through the gears like I normally would. I guess there was too much torque when the chain got to the aluminium part and it just failed like yours. I was just going about like I normally do (quite hard) out on the trails. But I guess the aluminium part with the 4 sprockets just isn't designed for what it'st meant to do sadly.
They actually offered me a replacement (same cassette) now. On warranty... So thumbs up to the ztto official store. But I don't want the same so I've asked if I could get a steel one instead. Will se what they respond.
Nicereview..but for the simple logic why chain drops mostly from big gap numbers is that..2t to max of 3t distance is smooth..comparing the gear smooth ratios from 11t-36t have no problems on shifting.. so itsnot a good idea on making a big gap numbers... during the 80s -90s japanese dont even tried using big gap numbers..its a sales marketing fails when they try to ruin the old stuff...but.. why they didnt invent a rear fd shifter for big gap cogs? Hmmm..
Any longer and the chain would be slack on the small cog, that I can guarantee. The issue was the shift ramps which was supposed to be corrected but I have heard otherwise.

Thats the solution indeed, dont use the rings that came with the bottom bracket 👍🏼 and then these Cassette works fine

with 1x10 or 1x11 you have a lot of cassettes to choose.

It will probably be fine for that
Thanks for the help. Almost bought this.
Allot of Sram and Shimano 10-12 speed cassettes do that...its due to the extreme chain line angles..(chain dropping down cogs)
Sucks about the tooth
My SRAM 12 speed derails in 1st gear if I back pedal.
Yap I also have trust issues when it comes to allu cassette materials even in big brands. Better stick to my 11-52 steel cog.
Sucks, looks super clean and light.
How many links of your chain?
"If you shift under load you are likely to snap a chain" i look at chain brand. Yep. This piece of shit; no need to doubt it
