Certainly not transferring everything made the repair faster but it still remains a long and difficult job, given the quantity of parts and screws and you, as always, did a great job.

”And we are done”. I miss the old Hugh, when the last step was always a tempered glass screen protector! 😄😄
Always wonder why he doesn't do that anymore
@@Renee-vz3cxthere's no point when you are going to sell the device onwards, as long as you keep it safe ;)
Always a pleasure to watch you Hugh. You’re not only a superb technician but also a kindly humanitarian. Kudos to you.
Definitely the best way to go for repairing the back glass. Doing the rear glass is quick but just knowing it’s not factory throws me off. Seeing as the glass isn’t below the camera rings.

I've heard a decent song by Paul McCartney and Wings, but
I've never met a nice South African.
You were one of my inspirations to start repairing! I did a full housing swap on an xs i got in a log the other day, and it went really well. Thank you!

Awesome! I'm so happy to hear that
Hey would you be able to tell me where you got the housing from? I’ve got to do the exact same thing but don’t know where to get a good one for a fair price.

I’ve always been skeptical about that website, but would you recommend it since I live in Canada? Where do you live?
We've seen some pretty crazy damage to some iPhones at our shop. I think the worst was an iPhone 12 Pro Max that hit a large rock as the owner rode through the woods on an ATV and lost their grip. The impact was so hard that it snapped the frame near the antenna lines along with destroying the display and back glass. Luckily, the board and internals were fine, so after a quick frame swap, new screen and battery, they had a working phone again.
So do you get that annoying battery message ?
@@jusalii Yea, but that goes away after a while. We warn all our customers about those types of messages before we work on their devices so they aren't thrown off when they see it the first time.
@@garrettlison4992 so wait! You’re telling me if I was to repaid a iPhone 11 and repair the battery how long will the battery message show?
@@jusalii in our experience, it usually lasts for about a month or so
@@garrettlison4992 will it still stay in the battery section tho ? Like if I tap battery health will it say “non apple genuine battery”?
You can change the back glass without the laser machine. It can be done with a hairdryer/heat gun tweezers, a craft knife and a lot of patience. I’ve done it myself on an XS Max. The replacement rear glass has a slightly oversized hole for the cameras so the camera enclosure can stay in place. It’s cheap to do and the results look good but not for the impatient or faint hearted. I’ve also seen dry ice used to make the adhesive brittle to make the glass shards come away easier. I think Filip from EAP did it on his channel about 3 years ago.
Yes but for most it is not worth it
He‘s not a professional repair shop, but simply better knowledged and equipped than 90% of them tell you they are professionals 🤣
The fact that the owner wanted to throw that away makes me sad... It was a fully functional even before it got restored to its former glory! He could have slapped a case on it and call it a day!
What annoys and worries me are the screen mark and the battery in that shape, but I would try to sell it for parts or give it to someone else.
Exactly, it’s also an iPhone 11 which is an outstanding phone even in 2022, if I was the owner I would have either put a case that doesn’t show the back or throw a d brand skin on it so I couldn’t see the crack at all!
You mean, before it exploded? The battery was penetrated. It was a time bomb. Dude didn't want to die.
Except for that battery... That phone NEEDED repair or disposal. Slapping a case on it and calling it a day would be absolutely the wrong move.
@@mjc0961 Hypothetically strong tape and a case could've helped it if ALL that was wrong was the cracked glass back (why is Apple so stupid? Glass sucks, quit using it ffs), but the battery was literally stabbed and swelling. It could have exploded and caused a tremendous fire mid-video and it wouldn't have been shocking, it would've actually been *expected*.
Honestly I'm disappointed that Hugh completely glossed over how stupid this was to work on with absolutely no precautions taken, but I've come to expect it because although he does good repairs, he doesn't seem to realize how dangerous bad batteries are. Dude literally handles spicy pillows barehanded and like nothing, and treats ran over/stabbed phones like they're okay to touch while the battery IS STILL IN IT.
A few days ago, I did a teardown of an old laptop which had Windows Vista. There wasn't a HDD, but it had lots of ports, expandable memory, disk and processor. It's a bummer that Apple and many other companies doesn't do this anymore. They have now socketed memory, processor and HDD/SSD and parts pairing
Another device saved from the landfill. I love these videos so much, keep up the great work Hugh.
Reprogramming battery would've made this repair a 10/10.
Reprogramming doesn't work on the newer models. You actually have to take the IC from the old battery and transfer it to the new one.
@@ParodieHecker-mobile you need to transfer the hole old charging board and also reprogram it
@@ronlevin2339 Exactly

@@childe._ before iPhone x there was no battery lock
Great repair! Glad to hear that the viewer sent it to you so you culd repair it - and I completely understand why you wouldn't want to be a repair shop (and accept everything) due to the sheer hassle and time consumed with repairing these devices. IMO, iPhones are purposely made too difficult to repair.
Why oh why do you need 4 different screwdrivers to do a complete teardown? And why is the back glass glued down with such force that you have to replace the entire housing, or use lasers?

This was an interesting repair! 📱
Do you really own your iphone is the software is locked, and if you need proprietary tools to repair it ? is owning the physical brick enough ?
I had to buy special tools to remove the screws on my laptop heatsink because MSI intentionally stripped the screws HORRIBLY to deter me, the consumer and owner of it, from removing it and cleaning it (since if it was cleaner it'd run better and I'd be less inclined to buy a NEW computer years later).
Do I own it?
The fan connectors were made so frail you'll lose one of the two power wires taking it out. They actually made it with two power wires FOR THIS VERY REASON.
Do I own it?

The reason why dual-SIM iPhones are only available in China seems to be that the Chinese government requires the manufacturers to offer only physical dual SIMs. The government there doesn't allow eSIMs.
Call me crazy but I don't understand why I'd even want two SIMs in the first place. What benefit do I get from having a second number? Now I get more incoming spam calls and texts? Now I have to juggle which number I'm calling or texting from? What are the pros to counter all of these cons?
Travel to avoid roaming charges, especially for people who have to travel to a different country for work a lot. Getting properly paid for work-related phone calls since it’s easier as you don’t have to track minutes and numbers. Having a private number so u can silence only one sim on the weekend or whatever and enjoy yourself. Not needing two devices for work if that’s how u like your life. Some people don’t mind carrying two phones around, some do. Since they’re not carrier locked you could even get more coverage using two different carriers. The US carriers hate them bc they want u locked into their service and they really only have three. Outside the US traveling outside your country, and thusly, roaming is muuuuch more common so dual sim can be a necessary part of having a phone. It depends on who your are and how you use your device. For a large part of the world dual-sim is needed or greatly desired. For people in the US who need work phones or travel lines it’s the same scenario. No down-sides outweigh those benefits.
@@mjc0961 it’s better to have two SIMs AND two devices
Holy cow that iPhone was just millimeters away from being a Lithium Ion battery fire! Great repair Hugh and great video.
Hugh Jeffery next time why not peel the tape over and desolder the old connector and use kapton tap for high temperature on the new battery after soldering the connector back into place on the new battery. Then battery health would still show up.
Hey Hugh, can you use battery ID copy machine ? like a screen ID copy to another's
For the battery display message you need to remove the old battery cable and next time try and put some Magsafe magnets on your next build with glass back cool videos
Isn’t there a way to copy the old battery info into the new battery just like you can with a screen?
You can transfer the controller board at the base of the battery but it’s risky.
Great job like always, to all you out there, DO NOT GET APPLE CARE
Why ?
I'd never have the patience for this but it's oh so satisfying to watch. 👍
Hugh class videos as always. A cool thing to do is a video on how you keep track of the screws and how you do it?

Hi Hugh! Great video as always!
Tho i hope that you have transferred the code of the old battery into the new one so that it won’t have the “important battery message”.
Hope your store ships to Philippines soon! 🙏🏻
Always love watching your videos and seeing the insides of all these devices!
Damn that was bought quick! I would have bought it 😂
I wonder why Apple would call its vibration motor the Taptic Engine. Just curious, I don't really know why...
1. I’d like to see IP68 testing on a refurbished device & some explanation as to why there can be issues.
2. I’d love to have an iPhone with a dual nano sim tray. I missed out buying the last one, was a good deal

Good job Hugh, boy that phone sold quick lol
I support what you and other people do and Love your vids
I love how Hugh turn a 30min repair with just buying a locked phone into a weekend project xdd
That damage looks more like a low caliber shot from a weapon of some sort... Damn!
I have done this process twice and I hated every bit of it. Thanks for the thorough info on this process!
Glass or plastic back, take your pick. Wireless charging won't work with a metal back.
You dont need a laser to remove the back glass as you can use heat and this is a more popular method.
The condition of this phone looking like it was hit by a meteor is both hilarious and also somehow more believable knowing it somehow was related to a sodastream. I think those machines are just forces of chaos. One time my dad tried to recarbonate coke with one and it blew up so hard it was dripping from the *ceiling*
Good morning Hugh thank you so much for your great video clips 😄
you can return the battery health readings using a jailbreak
There’s nothing wrong with the framed as we place the back glass
Next time try changing the battery flex cable and reset efficiency and cycles using icopy. this will show the battery health. Great video!
It's not as dumb as one of my classmates, she managed to "accidentally" crack her MacBook Pro TouchBar with a hammer, that's right A HAMMER. How do you even manage to do that?
By being triggered.

Great I installed battery my s6 edge plus with your help Hugh thanks a lot
Hi Hugh are there any other guides besides ifix for houseing replacements they used to show how to remove everything but on there 11 and 12 pro guides they don't show how to remove a lot of the stuff like antenna near camera other guides seem the same.
Sarcastic airquotes """wireless charging""" must have been a wet dream for phone manufacturers. It creates more heat while charging, which decreases battery life over time, which means batteries die faster and people want new phones sooner. It required a glass back instead of a metal or plastic back, which makes the phone far more fragile, more likely to get damaged, more likely the end user needs a costly repair or just buys a new phone. And it meant that they could sell all kinds of overpriced accessories for it. Honestly I'm surprised it took Apple as long as it did to finally include it in their phones.
And all those cons, just for a technology that makes charging more inconvenient. Yes I definitely want slower, inefficient charging, and to be completely unable to use my phone while it's charging because picking it up takes it away from the induction plate that wastes a load of space on my desk. Just picking up the phone with the cable still in it is way too easy and useful for me, please make this process worse.
Clearly not a wireless charger user. You can’t go back to wired charging
@@satsumagt5284 agreed i just set it on my nightstand and in the norning 100%

How come you didn't reprogram the battery serial number? You got a JC reprogrammer.
@Macintosh 10:28 was still showing the "not genuine message" so he didn't
Front Of The Phone Looks Good As New But Back Glass Got A Lot Of Damage
When will you be transforming the 1970s computer? I think you should transform the bottom part into a modern computer but still have the CRT as the display. It's a nice touch plus it'd be cool to see something like Windows 10 on a CRT. Just reminding you.
Another great job by Hugh Jeffreys.
Great job! Now try to repair an iPhone 13 from eBay! I think it is almost impossible. Good luck!
You did not rewright the battery serial number to avoid Apple’s message ?
Satisfying way to watch this good job hugh
It Is a pity you store Isn't available In the uk
Couldnt you reprogram the battery? Or was that patched by Apple?
The back glass looked like it was smashed with a hammer deliberately.
didn’t you just make a video on a laser machine to replace the back glass? what’s with the new housing
What I like about the 11 was it had the same chipset AND ram as the Pro. With that lower res screen, hypothetically, it would provide better performance than the Pro.
might consider blurring the SN/IMEI so nobody tries to copy or blacklist them. it's extremely unlikely, but tbf the video does have thousands of views.
there is a programmer tool that can transfer data from the old battery to a new battery
I love videos like this
"how one damaged a phone with a kitchen appliance" sounds so funny and wrong. it sounds like they broke the phone with a spoon or fork
I'm not sure if you'd be able to fix it, but my sister got her iphone 11 pro destroyed last year, screen ripped off the body and the body is destroyed. Plugging it into a computer did nothing, but I thought there would be a chance to at least get data off of it.
You should have used all the original parts from the housing, using 3rd party ones or compatible ones could make the phone not work at it´s finest
nice restore
Why didn't you reprogram this new battery?
Why didnt you send it back to the owner?
Before and after hits different
Hey Hugh, do you have a fixed seller for your colored iPhone housings or do you just scroll through ebay to find them?
Its weird seeing new iphones not have dual sim when my old nokia lumia had dual sim support
I know nokia lumias are terrible but i think their actually really nice devices
def can remove back glass with heat i did 100s its not hard at all
How rich you have to be able to throwaway a phone which can be repaired
If you replaced the screen would the face id work still?
How do you brake an iPhone with a soda stream????

Do you have the first iPod from 2001?

How much would ya charge to fix a galaxy Note 8 screen?
very nice brother👍👍😘
Has anyone lost all their photos due to a damaged iPhone ? Never backed them up or printed them off ? I came from an era of photo albums and processing film and wonder does this modern age mean lost memories of a generation due to digital files only ? What occurs if someone suddenly dies with password locked phones ?
Yes, that's possible and it happens. If the phone is damaged to a certain extent, the photos cannot be recovered. Luckily, though, there are services such as Google Photos, Amazon Photos, iCloud, etc. that allow you to back up many gigabytes of those pictures and videos.
Can someone tell me from where did Hugh got the replacement housing plz?
Is he using common E8000 glue like the Amazon one ? @5:33
always rather move buttons etc , i would say 80% of those buttons are faulty then u will be stuck in a 180 seconds reboot loop :) 30 min more work but worth it :)
Why throwing away when phone still functioning!
Hi Hugh, very nice job 👏👏👏
What you call that tool you use that help airtight seal after you glue the phone?
Throw it away even in its old condition it works it was useable
Wonder if the original owner buys their phone back ?
