I needed to see this show dirty to really appreciate the perfection of finals night. And holy cow... For this being dirty, it was still sickening! Bravo to that entire production crew and staff. 02 was magical and inspirational to so many thousands of young artists.
You hit the nail on the head, Tyrone. I've watched and listened to the finals recording tens of thousands of times by now, and even marched with a few members in my high school band, and all I ever thought about that season was how flawless that last run went. I've only now seen this, and for the very first time this show looks HARD! My old band director would tell us about this show, saying the hardest thing they did was make it look easy.
They got an 88.850 at this show… on July 13th! That’s nuts. They finished 6 points ahead of second place Phantom, who were a top 5 corps that year. Insane stuff.
I miss this style of DCI. I'm not trying to bash the current style, but it's become more like WGI. There is nothing wrong with it, but this is worldly better. There aren't over 9,000 props, dancing every set, amps.... man, those were the good ole days
Drum Corps Midwest championships... Those were the days. The day after this contest (Sunday) all the corps would hang out and eat pizza, courtesy of DCM!

Oh my lord. How did they look and sound so clean so early on in the season? That’s crazy
They were so good that year.
Omg this is the clearest early 2000s video I've ever seen!

Man... they just don't move like this now days... I know I'm being a "boomer". But damn..this is what I miss...
I’m 24 and wish drum corps was still like this. Alas, all good things must come to an end I guess
I find it so different, hearing this differences between this recording and the finals performance, they sure did change a lot of things in music
The drumline sounds so "big" in this recording. Being clean and proper tuning really makes such a difference---obviously.
