  • In 2018 I became the first female to solo paddleboard the English Channel. It was a big challenge and it involved lots of research and preparation which, back then, there wasn't any guidance to follow.
A lot of people have been in touch with me in recent months asking for tips / advice and guidance for this challenge, so this video captures a lot of the most common ones to help you plan and prepare for your own adventure. Questions include everything from how to find a safety boat and how it was funded, to the kit I wore and what permissions were needed.
If you have any more comments or questions please leave them below and I will do my best to answer them. I hope you enjoy the video and it inspires you to take on a new, daring challenge that pushes you physically and mentally.

Thanks for taking the time to put together such an informative and inspirational video Lizzie. A big help in answering some of the questions that were rattling around in my head! Planning to try and do this next year (2022) to “celebrate” turning a half century old. Typically do about 40-50k/week at the moment so obviously need to ramp it up a bit! Would certainly be interested in partnering up with a team if anyone is interested! Thanks again and good luck with the research. Nick

Well done Lizzie. I just want to paddle from the Sussex Coast to the Rampion wind farm one day, so this is all very sincere and helpful information!

I've only paddle boarded once with a friend a few weeks back so this is all research. That being said I would be up for a channel crossing at some point. Always on the look out for a new challenge.

Thinking about doing this to fundraise for Alzheimer research. This video was so helpful!! One last question though... did you fall in much? My mission when paddling is to stay well above the water, but am I deluded in thinking it's doable with falling in???

What leggings did you wear? I am planning a group crossing with my brother and a few of my friends. Thanks for all of the insight.

Woah! First comment again! I need to think of something relevant and inspiring rather than just: first like some morons!
