Harry was the best, and the work he did for world hunger was most remarkable. He could never understand why people in this world went hungry ,with all of the things we waste. You can always count on the cheap seats! RIP Harry.
I attended Mr. Chapin's concert in Green Bay Wi. the year before he died. The world was a better place for having him in it, his music was wonderful, RIP Harry, you were a class act.
he's seriously the greatest singer/song writer who has ever lived. No one can tell a story like Harry. Sadly I was around 1 year old when he passed away. My mom raised me to his music since i was about 9 years old. His albums don't have one or 2 hits, everydamn song I've heard him sing has grown on me. I wish I could have seen him live.....actually hurts that I know I wont ever be able to....I'll see ya when I get there Harry, thanks for your music and for your humanitarisom. Rip my friend
One of our greatest troubadours left us 40 years ago this month. I was lucky enough to see him perform in 1978 at Wright State University. So glad to find this rare video of one of my favorites.
I'VE NEVER HEARD THIS ONE BEFORE. THANKS FOR POSTING IT. MY GRANDMOTHER'S STEPFATHER WAS WHAT THEY CALLED A 'FIREMAN' -THE GUY WHO STOKED THE ENGINES- ON THE TITANIC, BUT WAS TRANSFERRED OFF JUST BEFORE SHE SAILED.
Brian Porterfield I don't know if you'll ever see this comment but I was blessed to see Harry in concert at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at the Music Center in Los Angeles. It turned out to be the year he died. I am so blessed to have seen him live. He was incredible. We love you Harry...thank you for your beautiful and memorable music...
Thanks to Harry I became interested in the Titanic. I discovered I am related to one of the builders and a survivor as well. I have read nearly every book published on the Titanic without Harry I never would have such a great hobby. Harry was the soundtrack to my childhood and I still listen to him.
yea I was 18 and I saw him and his brother alone because the band got snowed in... it was awsome I still get a tear when I listen to him..the worrld whould be a better place if he was still here
Love, Love, Love this! I'm sure the way they played it in the movie was close to how they actually, played it but it's the story Chapin tells that is so great! Thank you for the post!
The Chapin family are still doing shows that keep this music alive. The shows usually consist of Tom, Steve, Big John Wallace and the children of Tom, Harry and Steve. The shows are awesome. You can find the schedule at Tom Chapin's web site.
Thanks for uploading. I love this song and the album is a classic. I saw Harry in concert only a few weeks before his untimely death. It was shocking. I'll always have fond memories of this great writer and performer.
"There's no way that this could happen" I could hear the old captain curse He ordered lifeboats away, that's when I heard the chaplain say "Women and children and chaplains first"
Saw him (and his band) three times while I was in college. My friends in the Union Board said they were the easiest folks to work with and had the smallest contract they had signed. The interesting note was their families toured with them part of the time. The "difficult" part of the contract? They wanted hot meals for everyone, including the roadies.
I wish Harry was still with us. But he would have died at the shit that is going on in this country now. We are definitely a Dance Band on the Titanic. Everybody sing, "Nearer My God to Thee."
The dislike button? This honestly is one of the 2-3 of his I don't like...but I love every note and every word that ever came from Harry! He died 8 months before I was born. Worst feeling in the world knowing I'll never see him live... How could anyone hit the dislike button?? UA-cam needs a "Love" button for singers like Harry!

Man, I cried when Harry's ship went down. A great loss for humanity, world hunger and music.

I won't watch that movie. They shouldn't have had to add a hackneyed love story to get people to see it.
Brilliant song--brilliant guy. Remember him today: he is worth being remembered!

I generally like Harry's shorter songs. This one doesn't make the cut, though there are some clever lyrics.
I saw him in concert in 1979 at the apolo in manchester
99 YEARS AGO TODAY..R.I.P. TO ALL WHO LOST THERE LIFES
it's such a sad moment really...the best storyteller i know basically says...well, we're fucked, so , at least, maybe we can have a little fun.....
Hats off to you. Kids need to know that before this era of famous for absolutely nothing celebrities, there was actually great Americans.
This is great stuff
WHO THE HELL CAN DISLIKE THIS
He didn't write songs He Painted stories and painted them well
Women and children and Chaplin's first, classic line!
I completely agree.
2:53 wow! Was not expecting a "Deutschland Deutschland uber alles" drop here.
women and childen and chaplins first...haha just classic
Much too soon, Harry.
nearer my god to thee + in god we trust =
how come we keep getting separated from our money?
jay dee so did I. My ex wife refused to sing Circle with him. We were front row center! She got stage fright. Never will forgive her.
My mother is adamant that the GSL version of "Circle" must be played at her funeral, and that everyone must stand up and sing.
Ditto.
imagine rolling stone voted this worst song of the year, best album he ever did imho
what a great songwriter harry was, a very big lose
Does Harry know a bad song??
