Lilke always, great video and production. Even when you are not building a pedal board, all the knowledge that you share is highly appreciated. Just one important thing: I agreed 100% regarding the DD-500...I can care less about strymon after having the bluesky.
Chris Hepburn There’s actually quite a bit of slack in some of the cables for adjustments and with the top mounted jacks you could conceivably move to any orientation for Power or audio.
Some can extend to two supplies without another IEC however they still are limited by the total available current of the main supply with the AC mains.
Just out of interest why not go for a power supply like the strymon Zuma? 500ma in 9 outs so would have free up the ability to double up or mason have you ever looked at the gig rig stuff?
The Zuma wouldn’t change the necessity for a second power supply. I like the Strymon stuff as well, but at the end of the day we would’ve needed two power supplies. I think they’re not necessarily better or worse, Truetone versus Strymon, it’s just a preferential thing - Since we already had the true tone CS12, we went with the true tone CS7 to complete.
Vertex Effects just thinking with say using the Zuma with a few sharing or Zuma and an ojai would have saved the whole warranty voiding issue, still a super clean board
When you wire up a board that is this tight, how do you think about separation/isolation of audio and power cables? It seems impossible to make sure they only cross at 90 degree angles or don’t sit too close in parallel.
If you map it out before it goes down it’s easier to keep track - with low voltage there is less of an issue, but AC power is problematic if you don’t isolate it in terms of proximity.
Thank you for posting this video! As a worship musician, I always feel left out when it comes to guitar gear videos. The way modern worship is today requires a lot of skill and gear. Thank you for giving us recognition.
The midi capability is being used for all of the pedals that accept MIDI. We didn’t want to sacrifice an instant access foot switch, or a preset foot switch for tap tempo, and preferred to have a global synchronized tap tempo on the bottom right.

We talked about this in the initial set up, it wasn’t a concern, you can cheat your foot off the board quite a bit and in all honesty the riser couldn’t go any further back, however you can see the volume pedal a little further toward the edge of the Pedalboard if needed
does the tap coming from psu 1 to psu2 soldered to the iec c13 connector directly to the pins or is iec port bypassed because the those pin would be live and exposed shock hazard
Yes, if you solder to the internal lugs both IEC pins will be active...you either need to plug the IEC or you need to disconnect the IEC connector from the PCB and solder the wires to the PCB on PSU #2
Have you used EHX Super Switcher? I am making my own pedalboard and am working through pedals to get the combination that does what I want. I am using a Vitoos VLP8 which is surprisingly good but being able to reorder fx is important to me.
@@VertexEffectsInc i have my mute button currently set as my tap tempo so i don't lose a preset number, but I've seen a lot of people use the quartz with the es8 and the rjm for set lists and I've wondered what the benefit of that is except for the tap tempo function like you've mentioned. It depends, if the pedals are only being used for tap tempo or minimal force - there’s no danger, but I wouldn’t want to put a wah pedal on their or something that gets a lot of activity without the center support.
Love it! Hey, how do you know which pedals can share power, versus which pedals should always be isolated, to prevent noise/weirdness/damage/etc.? I'm running out of outputs on my Voodoo Pedal Power, but one of those is powering a Polytune Mini. I'm guessing it's safe to daisy chain a pedal a pedal or three together, just not sure which pedals to safely chain power on?
There is a couple of things u have to consider. First off, NEVER daisy chain pedals that run with different voltage. You can run 2 pedals at 9 volt if one is 9V and the other is 9-18V in the same output. But NOT the other way around, you`ll fry your pedal if you run 12, 15 or 18 volt into a 9 volt pedal Secondly pedals ofc have no problems and stuff if u run everyone isolated. The thing ur mainly asking about is running two or more pedals on the same output. The thing u have to do is look at the output in terms of milliamps. (mA). A lot of power supplys typicly have 100mA isoltaed output. If u have two pedals that uses 25 and 37 mA u can easily have a daisy chain and put them on the same output. However some pedals use about a 100 mA and u would stuggle if u then hook up another one who uses 50 or something mA. This prisiple aplies inn all situations. So a 400mA could in theory power 4 pedals with 100 mA each. (this is pushing it though, but it will work) =) To figure out what ur pedal is using in terms of power. Just search for the pedal and add the words "current draw" and you should find an online manual or something telling you what they use! Hope this answered the question =)
@@madshauge6972 Thanks! I mostly understand the math regarding voltage and milliamps. But it's common to isolate to avoid noise problems and ground leak issues, etc. right? Which types of pedals benefit more from isolation (noise-wise, etc.), versus which types of pedals play nicely together when sharing non-isolated power?
Hey Mason, could you explain how midi works? Especially for my case. I have an ES-5 and I want to get an hx stomp. But want to make sure I’m able to use the switcher to control presets on the Hx stomp since it would be replacing my delays and reverbs. Merry Christmas!
You can control all parameters on the HX Stomp via the ES5. Ideally you’d use the five loops of the ES5 for your non MIDI stuff, ie analog drives, compressors, etc. and leave the HX outside is the ES5 since you can adjust and turn on and off via MIDI
Ah ok. I’ve been driving myself crazy trying to find something on UA-cam. And I knew that you’ve talked about midi before. So I figured I’d ask someone who actually knows what they are talking about lol. Thank you sir! I hope you and your family (and all of vertex) has a wonderful Christmas! Thanks Mason 🙏
Jumping those 2 PSU's together as you did and leaving the 3 pongs of one of them exposed (here the small one) is not safe at all. It's basically an accident waiting to happen. Better find a way to insulate that unused IEC entry module somehow.
I agree. If he was to access the back of the ES8 there’s a chance he may accidentally make contact with the IEC socket. Still not sure why he didn’t use a Zuma/Ojai combo
Mason, do you have any suggestions for a junction box/interface - similar to the Swiss Things or Interfacer? Looking for something with stereo outs and a buffered input, possibly with 1-2 effects loops.
None that I can recommend, you could build the 1-2 effects loops thing very easily yourself - the interface should have an input and output buffer at minimum - best that’s commercially available is the Mesa Boogie Highwire.
@@RobertNolan There was, I don't recall the model number, it was the larger size that's made for the Air Case as I recall that has wheels and a retractable handle
Shouldn't you cover the IEC port on the CS7? If you soldered directly to the internal posts, those prongs would be hot and potentially a shock risk when sending power, no?
For a lot of players that are having to re-create some of the classics from Bethel music, Hillsong, etc. it requires similar if not exact gear to do it
I have a very similar pedal board. I don’t have all the drive pedals this one has because I have the OD200. But i never needed that much playing for Catholic Church services. Just a few effects, but once I started playing other worship music on stage playing the Bethel, Elevation Worship it requires specific BPM with the dotted eighth note delay, and they want you to play it like the recording so this is board is absolutely necessary. Awesome pedal board build, Mason!!
There is a guitar input, and two outputs, mono (left), and stereo (right), labeled as such so it’s clear when Daniel is running mono where to plug in a single amp.
@@VertexEffectsInc OK, but if it's the same signal split/paralleled to two jacks labeled L & R, which is what it sounds like you're describing, it's not actually stereo since both output jacks have exactly the same signal.
fretbuzz59 most modern delays and reverbs can send different signals and effects to each output creating a stereo effect. Also a popular practice is running two different amps simultaneously for a nice blend of tones

Yes, great thing, really. I had a similar thing size wise (maybe not that good wiring quality). But in the year 2019, I thought, nobody needs this. Now I use a multi fx. Now again I do not know... again....damn!
I like the interface box that you made for him. I’m looking for one with my specifications. Is there a contact number or email so I can get one of those?
Sorry we only make them for the purposes of the UA-cam videos but they’re very simple to make if you have a drill press and the ability to solder. You can also check out the Mesa Boogie High Wire as an alternative or the Empress Buffer
Question : Do people pay you for your pedal board builds? What you did with the power supplies, not only voids the warranty but if that cable frays from rubbing against the metal case, is not only amateur but dangerous. The least you could do is put a grommet to secure it.
k m It was an editing error, sorry 😐 If you listen to the dialogue it says, something like, “I added rubber grommets around the hole” - And I didn’t catch that what was shown was a shot of the initial layout of the mod where I was making sure that the length was right before I actually terminated and applied the grommets around the holes.

People seem to love this board, and it's ok, I suppose. However, am I the only one who thinks this board looks incredibly congested? I mean, there are cables right on top of buttons and switches. And in some places it looks hard to get to knobs. It looks organized, but also crowded. I dunno, maybe it's just me.
This is the sacrifice you make in order to have it all compact as possible with lots of pedals. Also the switcher controls all pedals so once the settings are dialed in, you don't need to make many adjustments.
@@VertexEffectsInc I suppose some sacrifices have to be made. Ironically enough, I do enjoy this old school cluttered look, but I guess if it delivers, that's all that really matters. I did get some great placement ideas, so there's that, I suppose! Thanks!
David Poulton It would surprise you have any key modulation is that there are in a lot of CCM music, definitely it’s own beast to conquer for musicians coming from any style.
#1 - “worship musicians” may buy gear, but I’d bet that they buy gear because they’re musicians, and not because they’re theists #2 - might pull on some people with that shit, but it’s at least partially responsible for the fact that I don’t : use Kyser Capos; watch the 60-cycle hum podcast; own any Wampler pedals; buy much gear from Sweetwater .... the list goes on. Keep it secular, please. I’d bet that the musician market share is significantly less Christian than the general public.

is hte delay and reverb after the MD-500 or is it in loop 8 with all the midi stuff?
Correct!
It is still connected through midi along with the big sky
Shouldn't you cover the IEC port on the CS7? If you soldered directly to the internal posts, those prongs would be hot and potentially a shock risk when sending power, no?
Steven Petty answered this a few times in the comments - a cover was added after the testing process prior to the customer taking delivery.
I actually think it's so much pedal for a church rig, or isn't? Btw, great mod on the power supply! Nice job!!!!
Depends on the church I guess
For a lot of players that are having to re-create some of the classics from Bethel music, Hillsong, etc. it requires similar if not exact gear to do it
@@VertexEffectsInc Okay I get! Well, there are no limitations to rig as long as it fits the board, right? Haha
Fett Wey Well said
I have a very similar pedal board.
How can i send my pedal board to you
4:50 "mono in with a stereo out." How is the output "stereo"? Do you mean mono in, splitting to two separately buffered outs?
There is a guitar input, and two outputs, mono (left), and stereo (right), labeled as such so it’s clear when Daniel is running mono where to plug in a single amp.
@@VertexEffectsInc OK, but if it's the same signal split/paralleled to two jacks labeled L & R, which is what it sounds like you're describing, it's not actually stereo since both output jacks have exactly the same signal.
fretbuzz59 most modern delays and reverbs can send different signals and effects to each output creating a stereo effect. Also a popular practice is running two different amps simultaneously for a nice blend of tones
amazing!
Thanks for watching!
Very awesome work, curious as to what the investment into a board of that magnitude costs? Pedals + board + wiring etc..... = ??
A. Lot.
What is the title off the backround songs??

Bernard Sianipar so glad you dig it!
Would an IEC splitter (see link) help to feed both the CS7 and CS12?

When you wire up large pedalboard like this do you use different coloured cables so you can trace the cables?
When did worship guitar get so expensive?
profmartin1967 Have an all Guitar products always been pretty expensive for quality?
Yes, great thing, really. I had a similar thing size wise (maybe not that good wiring quality). But in the year 2019, I thought, nobody needs this. Now I use a multi fx. Now again I do not know... again....damn!

I like the interface box that you made for him. I’m looking for one with my specifications. Is there a contact number or email so I can get one of those?
Sorry we only make them for the purposes of the UA-cam videos but they’re very simple to make if you have a drill press and the ability to solder. You can also check out the Mesa Boogie High Wire as an alternative or the Empress Buffer
Vertex Effects thank you! I like what your doing with the pedalboards. Learning a lot. Thank you for the videos.
perfecto
zuma and ojai?
wow how much do you charge ???
Rode Rik You can email us for more information about our process
Mason is really getting alot of milage out of patching a few pedals together
Question : Do people pay you for your pedal board builds? What you did with the power supplies, not only voids the warranty but if that cable frays from rubbing against the metal case, is not only amateur but dangerous. The least you could do is put a grommet to secure it.
k m It was an editing error, sorry 😐 If you listen to the dialogue it says, something like, “I added rubber grommets around the hole” - And I didn’t catch that what was shown was a shot of the initial layout of the mod where I was making sure that the length was right before I actually terminated and applied the grommets around the holes.
I do not understand needing all of those presets for modulation
What if you need chorus, tremolo, flanger, phaser, vibe, etc. those would have to be separate pedals if not for presets?
Jesus Christ, what music do you play in church in Usa ? it looks like a pedalboard for playing at a Woodstock gig.......
Really! I thought that was just a coiley cable and a Marshall stack
@@VertexEffectsInc Well Woodstock 2019....
lowrence mayfield all preference man haha I have a: Volume pedal -> Fulldrive 2 -> Blues Driver -> Analog Delay -> DD-3 -> RV6. And I couldn’t be happier. The whole board all runs into a Joyo British sound when I have to run direct in PA, but is also very amp friendly (SS or Tube)
@@EPIXFLATZ Me too, i have a Joyo American Sound ad the end of the board followed by the Hughes and Kettner Red Box for when i play direct, i don't play in churches though. 😂😂😂
It's called "contempervant" ... A pedal board to match a contemporary and relevant church experience. 😇
Whats with worship players and these 5k dollar pedal status symbol boards?
it's not just Christians...
All of this... for worship. The congregation won’t even hear the difference on the third turnaround of How Great is Our God
You play for yourself too. I don't have good stuff for congregation, but for me also.
I know. I've been going to church my whole life and as far as I can tell, it only makes music and christianity worse. It's the epitomy of the 4 chord strummer.
I try to change my tones according to the song. I hope it gives the worshippers a great experience.
Rockish... like.. music in church. Be careful what you wish for... You just might get it...
Andrew Paul Chen some people like Jesus and pedals.
God approve this
hahahahahaha
I've been hearing about them and so far I'm assuming worship rigs are stocked with JHS, Strymon, DOD (esp. for the Mormons), and not any companies that specialize in metal, doom, psych, etc centric gear,
Oh hell no. Just get another power supply man. Never jump a power supply.
If you know of a power supply that could power all of these pedals, let me know - I think no matter which way you cut it you’re going to need to supplies.
@@VertexEffectsInc correct me if im wrong but could a strymon zuma and ojai not be chained together since they have the option to do so?
Shaun Duffy Sure, but if you already own these supplies why not use them
Crazy clean but am I the only one that has a problem with the mini volume? Doesn’t seem to be very accessible, still an amazing build though.
We looked at all options and cheating the foot off the front makes it not so problematic and keeps it in the Pelican case we designed it around.
WARNING... SHOCK HAZARD...!!
Piggy backing two IEC powered units together will make the prongs on the unused power input LIVE!!!
Make a little cover...

Will this work for Satan Worship as well?
Worth a try I suppose
Thanks!
There’s a lot of materialism going on here… 😢
All this to play 4 chord songs.
David Poulton It would surprise you have any key modulation is that there are in a lot of CCM music, definitely it’s own beast to conquer for musicians coming from any style.
I use my rig to worship satan
You guys have weird christianity over there
Ok
@@VertexEffectsInc lol what kinda passive aggressive comment is this, I just mean denmark has like pipe organs and old people
Why do these worship cats use more effects then a recording artist?
nothing to do with god, and everything to do with vanity..., wich is a sin by the way.
Do you have a monopoly on the glory of God? Who gave you gate-keeping privileges?
worship musician just means they can't play.
I haven’t found that to be true
Rohadt your the best player you know....no doubt
@@aaronready1 far from it.
Rohadt, go look up nigel hendroff, and him jamming with Joey Landreth and tell me Nigel "cant play"...
@@aaronready1 he is mediocre. plays with a lot of tension in both hands, and his sound is swimming in effects to cover shit up.
Wow - pandering to the religious. I guess if one is selling a product, targeting people that’ll “buy anything” seems kind of valid.
Lol ..i believe that he is smart marketing. Worship musicians are a large part of the music instrument and effects sales base.
WAYNE HARROD It’s true.
#1 - “worship musicians” may buy gear, but I’d bet that they buy gear because they’re musicians, and not because they’re theists
#2 - might pull on some people with that shit, but it’s at least partially responsible for the fact that I don’t : use Kyser Capos; watch the 60-cycle hum podcast; own any Wampler pedals; buy much gear from Sweetwater .... the list goes on. Keep it secular, please. I’d bet that the musician market share is significantly less Christian than the general public.
How is this pandering to the religious?
👆stupid questions won’t be replied to in the future
Come on man how far removed from the worship can you be just tap dancing away in your little assigned area while your boxed in plexiglass-shielded drummer wails away and the bassist plugs direct into PA
Hahahah!
