My Dad was there. And he met Jimi, sat on the stage with him at Woodstock.🎸🤘😎
My dad told me he was a POW in Vietnam and I told him dad you were never in Vietnam. You got stationed in Hawaii for one year during the Korean war before you got a medical discharge from eating too many pork chops, and he admitted "Yeah, i guess you're right."
Good ol dad, I miss him.
I lived about 4 blocks away, and this was my first concert!
I was there
Cactus
Steve Miller
Grateful Dead
Jimi Hendrix
At our neighborhood reunion in 2011, someone had an ariel shot of Temple Stadium.
My house on Temple Road is 1/2 block away.
I was pointing to it and showing people in the picture that's my house that's my house
I was there, too. An AMAZING line up. Don't forget Tower of Power and Wissahickon Transfer. Also, if my memory is correct, perhaps Hot Tuna or the Airplane? Unsure about the last one.
@@humankindmedia9741 I don't remember ANY others except "NY Rock and Roll Ensemble" - then Cactus, Dead, Steve Miller and Hendrix. Steve Miller may have been after Hendrix. It's possible there were other bands not advertised on the bill before we got there. I remember 5 total bands.
I was there too. My cousin lived across the street on Thouron Ave. We walked over and paid like five dollars to see the show. Hendrix pulled up in a purple Cadillac. The front license plate said, “Are You Experienced?” We had no idea who he was, until years later. But we were amazed for sure that night. Practically no one there in the audience!
I lived on Gilbert
OH MY GOD!!!!!
Some b.s.!!

I hate all LIARS
I was at this concert at Temple University in 1970. I saw Jimi kiss the sky
I was there too. Good times.
Me too! I was in high school. Was inspired to remove my bra and let my freak flag fly!
Unfortunately Jimi was getting warmed up just when the shows ended Schedule was awful No lounging around getting warmed up No tuners Ungrounded equipment Rarely conducive for stellar shows but it's better than no JH Thanks man
Temple Stadium
Temple University is in North Philadelphia
@@paulcowart3174 I was there - he sucked. Steve Miller was vastly better. Jimi didn't seem to care much.
Got Experienced April ʻ69 at the Spectrum. Had to roam way up town to this football stadium. Dropped an orange barrel on the train up. A long wild day : Cactus wailed, the Dead grooved, Steve Miller was tight and funky. Nightfall and Jimi arrives star spangled and again took us past the outskirts of infinity. Thanx fot the Great photos …oooh & the flying V. He had to cancel the next few dates because of “swollen throat glands" or such. A brilliant shooting star across our consciousness. Fly on Jimi fly on…..
that intro to MG is epic...
I still have tinnitus. Thanks Jimi. I was sitting stage left 50 feet from the stage.
Fantastic show! Man, Jimi and his stack of marshalls. So much life in every note. Pure genius. Shows he still was playing better than ever in 1970. Weird comments by Steve Miller, probably jealous? Thankfully these types of tapes show what REALLY went down in Philly: a brilliant gig!
HOT DARN!!!!!!....JOHNNY B. GOODE BABY
Awesome ... thank Buddha someone recorded them. This a weak sound quality, but has some great moments .... ☠
What a setlist, Machine Gun is stellar, and no way can anybody complain about Hendrix's sloppiness or even compare to Steve Miller's performance/songs/guitar playing, and the Grateful Dead opened, hah!
I read an interview with the local promoter who put this show together. He only sold 10,000 tickets and actually lost money. Bands that were originally booked dropped out at the last minute. Cactus and the Grateful Dead did appear.
What A Show !!!
Who was the 'Hendrix Reference Library' who had a lot of single boot cuts posted that had been enhanced/upgraded?? UA-cam shut him down last week! Was that you? Get with some of the big tapers so your good work wont be lost!
Incredible shows! Thankyou so much for putting these shows up they are truly SPECIAL!!!!! Much Appreciated Friend!!!!!!!
Jimi shared the same stage with the Dead 3 times in his short lifetime. Monterey, Woodstock & Temple Stadium…
23:03 Red House.
Awesome 😎 ❤
6:06 machine gun!!
Amazing how Jimi used Sargent pepper az if it was his own . In so many places copy rite's ..
Made it here reading a story about this set. Apparently, Jerry Garcia says, Jimi looked badddd, looked like he hadn’t been taking care of himself, him and Mitch Mitchell had just shot up a bunch of methedrine and he smelled so bad you could’ve puked just being near him. Yet he still pulls it off....
Kenneth Liburd no way...Mitch had suc a better feel for jimi...improv and loose rhythm
I was there, and I remember being disappointed in how stoned he was and how poorly he played. And I LOVED him. Still do. But it was not his best show.
@@humankindmedia9741 This - is correct. Anyone with a musical sense knows he sucked that day. On the other hand, Steve Miller pulled it off.
Jimi just jam’s no matter what until they killed him 🐄✌🏻🎸

You can't believe all that is written.Allegedly Steve Miller said this...probably b.s.
I get the feeling the writer is kind of presuming things out of laziness or ignorance... because I know you haven't actually heard the Philadelphia 1970 bootleg of Jimi's. (yes, it exists). the fact is, Miller is wrong and it is NOT a bad gig at all, Jimi delivers a classic Machine Gun and a great Hear My Train and Red House Blues.
I was there - Jim is my fav, but this was a terrible performance, IMHO. Listening again - I still think so! In fact, that concert sucked except for Steve Miller Band. $5 was the ticket price.
Amen, brother. Terrible, sloppy shite.
@@PhilosopherNewport - he seemed too drugged out....shame. Jimi wasn't known much for his later live performances, rather he took it better to the Studio in Electric Ladyland and in Cry of Love (different, but good in it's own way). I'd say some of Woodstock was one of his last great live shows.
@@craigissod6027 For me, my favorite live version of Machine Gun and Red House can be found on the Isle of Wight concert. I didn't care for the rest of the songs at that performance, just those two. His wah-wah & Univibe was exceptionally peculiar & unique that night. I never heard it like that before or after, and I've heard numerous concerts since I started collecting them in the 1980s. I absolutely adore those weird surreal psychedelic sounds that came out of his amps for those 2 songs that night in August 1970.
How was Cactus, my favorite band.
Actually $6.50. Have the original B&W poster for the show. If there was a way to post a pic I would do so. I lived 5 blocks away on 8600 block of Bayard St. You really didn't need to attend. The area consists of pretty much all row and twin homes so the sound echoed all over the neighborhood.
