A friend of mine had one of those! It's fascinating seeing what is inside. More complex than I would have guessed.

I loved these because of the tech. I had no need or use for one but I loved it. I typed in about 25 names and details of about 25 friends and family and that's about it. I just loved it just for what it was.

I loved. Inside it looks quite modern for being more than 30 years old. And with all the modern functions. Very advanced for its time.

Yes it does look very advance for it's age. You wouldn't think it was 30 year old tech on that complex board. Thanks for watching.

I still have the 3a and the 5. Last one is very sticky because of the coating

Great video. I had a 5MX but sadly sold it on eBay a few years ago for not much. BTW it's "jumps" not "jumped". Otherwise there is no s!

So much tech gone into it and such a short longevity. Wireless comms was out already with plans in place to get more mobile.

Tech was moving fast in those days and still is.

Excellent review of that classic pda. 😊

I would have given anything to have something like one of those as a kid...
Then I would have gotten bored with having some contacts and a basic spreadsheet with me. Those things were so almost-awesome. But you do pretty instantly realize they *really* wanted stuff like wifi, cellular data, and an app store and that stuff just wasn't available (cheaply, low power, in volume, everywhere) yet. If you could send email, read wikipedia, and there was a good third party app ecosystem, the CPU screen and keyboard were all perfectly adequate for the standards of the day. The rest of the tech ecosystem to make a mobile device awesome just wasn't there yet, and it wasn't PSION's fault at all.

Programmed a project on one, using a mix of:
    1. PC that could run the official emulator
    2. PC that was too low spec, writing in notepad and file transferring to the PSION
    3. Actually writing on it, during breaks in out and about VAX VMS upgrades (do 1 action, wait for ages while it churns)

That must have been a chore. At least now we have decent tech.
