I have a good 2002 Maxima that I’ve had since 2004, I’ve always LOVED the car... it was the highest performance car in its class back then. 255 hp stock, 0-60 in 6ish seconds depending on who you talk to... it’s tired and shows some age, but I love it! Happy New Year David!
I used to own a 2001 Nissan Maxima SE 20th anniversary with the 3.0 VQ and a 5 speed. Despite having 260,000 miles and riddled with issues when I bought it she was actually pretty quick for a V6. I loved that car I would definitely get another one in a heart beat!

Yup. Back than the Maxima was respected and good value. 2003 Max SE, 6MT was quick and fun. Unfortunately Nissan has lost their mojo. Maximas has become old ppl boring cars with CVTs. It's sad Maxima's were always the fun choice. A kid could convince their parents they made a sensible choice as it was 4 door and a Nissan. I'm the same age as you.
Ian Artimovich someone in my town has a straight piped SE-R and man it’s so fucking load. I heard it take off behind me and thought it was a GTR, but nope, it was an Altima. 😂
It’s weird. They made around 1,200 units between 2005 and 2006 yet my dad had one, and in the town I live in now there are three regulars and two occasionally seen confirmed SE-R’s. Such a rare car I happen to come across a lot. But even with the stock exhaust they sound so good, and those wheeeeels.
DAMN! I was actually excited to watch this. I used to have a Maxima. Previous generation from this one. I truly miss it. It was quick for stock when you got a full exhaust and intake. The response is great. Especially the sound. Thanks for reminding me of the smiles I had driving it.
That's just a stock engine from a 09+ Maxima which has the newer heads like an HR engine giving it amazing top end compared to the earlier 3.5' Vq's.. basically a 5.5 Gen Maxima with a 7Gen Maxima engine

My stock 6th Gen (2004) Maxima is honestly the greatest 1st car i could've gotten. VQ35DE, Sport Suspension, Low pro tires, 18" rims, Xenon Headlights, and an Electronically shiftable 5 Speed Automatic. If you cant afford a 350z or a G35 I totally recommend a Maxima or 3.5 Altima. They make a little less power than the Z. But you're essentially getting a sporty FWD designed after the 350z/G35 for a fraction of the price. I got my Maxima for $800 on marketplace but you can find 5th, 5.5, and 6th gens for like $800-$5000 depending on the condition. Just dont buy the CVT models (07-10).

However, the 03-04 are the only ones that got the black and silver interior like the R34 Skyline. The 04-06 gauges were also inspired by the Skyline. Btw, the name was originally gonna be Ser V Spec but it was change due to copyright or something like that. I have an 04 Spec V and I plan on putting a turbo in it. Can't wait
"Its 350z hr swapped" wHaT diD yOu jUsT sAyY??😂😂
I have a 99 maxima and I love it people underestimate that car a lot

Try the 2002 Nissan maxima
Literally ordered HR heads for my 03 maxima a few days ago 🤣🤣💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼 now I'm excited
you will need the timing chain cover...
I absolutely love my Maxima. This video is the extra push I need in the cold season to finish my turbo DE.
Oh yeah ! A God damn Maxima 😃
Come check out my 7th gen maxima with a 6mt swap!!! No cvt an actual transmission!
👀 I see you maxima-wey
I wouldnt mind seeing that. Thats how that car shoulda came. I was kinda disgusted, disappointed, and even salty when that came out 'auto' only.
Richard Cranium yeah definitely man. Nissan really messed up not putting a 6 speed in the 7th gens. Is so much quicker with a 6 speed trans. Car is so much fun to drive without a cvt in the car!
That's awesome man! Honestly the cvt is the only reason I wouldn't buy a 7th gen or 8th gen Maxima. Everything else is great for the price.
If the demands for manuals were there then they wouldn’t stop selling it, don’t blame nissan lol
I personally like the Maxima model. Don't judge.
Miss my 05 6 speed maxima from time to time. Those VQ’s sound sooooo good.
as someone whos done a turbo swap of this myself, im glad to see you checking out an HR swap!
This! Now this is awesome
Need some TP for my bunghole
Get gapped by my VQ Sentra
IM THE GREAT CORN HOOOLLLIOOOO, I HAVE NO BUNGHOLE. - beavis
This style will always be my favorite body style
yus. 5.5 gen maximas are the last real maxima built
Love the 5thgen Maximas & its best looking Maxima
Rocking a 2000 with 237k miles
How about the 6gen with the manual
aj 6 gen were a big blob, but they were a riot with the 6mt
@@josephellis5165 Keep that maxima long as possible those 2000 models are becoming extinct just like the 1993 maxima SE just keep it waxed yearly all jokes aside the modern day maximas have kinda lost there pureness
I had this exact gen, and it was a beast. Reliable and fast for what it was. Love the VQ
This thing is sweet. My first car was a 02 maxima same color, sadly I got T-boned and the car was totaled. I've thinking about buying another one as a project car for couple years. This thing gives me the inspiration. Don't sleep on maximas
0:50 UH!
My baby don't mess around
Because she loves me so
And this I know fa shooo!

HEEEEYEYYYYAAHHHHHHHH
HEEEEEEEEEYYYAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Great car, but horrible with rust especially in the Northeast. Had two of these and if it wasn’t for the massive amounts of rust I would’ve kept them
Willi Ramnarine same man! I hated getting rid of mine but subframe was rusted through
Yep. Changed a radiator support twice and snapped quite a few bolts
Same here
I had his car in the video mine was a 03 rad support was gone too hate New England 👎🏽
Aye rusty wheel wells for mine, loved my 02 to bits I have to say.
Vince didn’t have a maxima for nothing!😂💀 but they’ve always been sleepers
Finally a modified maxima. Ive been into maximas for 18 yrs. Finally we get someone with a modded maxima!
Makes me happy to see you doing a review on a maxima. Im about to undertake an HR swap into a 99 4th gen maxima
My brother always told me that Maximas aren't anything to play with lol
G37s too there sleepers
Slow G37 G37s aren’t sleepers lol, unless you’re talking about the sedan because the coupe blatantly looks like a sports car.
crutksdub lmao cause rsx type s’ only make 190+ to the wheels stock.
@@PR1NCETD0T I think its less than that, like 170
jason slabaugh its FwD, its around 180-185+ whp. They dont lose much power to the drivetrain.
Now just imagine someone throwing a 2j into a 2014 Toyota Camry🔥🔥
@John Gilroy if only that was built by arabs
Waldo * why? Most of them came with a 3.5l v6 with similar power to the vq35
Joshua Bower 2jz is better that’s why
iam gvd you let me know when you have the kind of money to do that. Only two fwd jz swaps have been done.
@@davidtorres246 the V6 is just as good...folks just don't take advantage of it....they're built just as stout as any JZ.
Heyy man. Dont stop doing older car reviews. They are the most fun
Mario Mattiace agreed
Also those are the syncronizers messed up in 3rd. I fixed that problem in a 240sx by switching to royal purple, no joke. It wouldn't go into 2nd or 4th when speed shifting. Switched to royal purple and it was almost instantly fixed.
On a good day, with nice tires and a keen shifting ability, I've pulled under 6 secs with mine.
David finally acknowledges the Cobalt SS' existence lol 6:21
I'm surprised by how much I enjoy the exhaust note. I'd be ripping that thing every chance I get. At no point would it be quiet while driving lol
Dan Klei y’all got to get all the good hatchbacks and wagons so fair lol
Review a pt cruiser
I know that car up in Richmond
Pt cruiser gt turbo
Srt-4 swapped pt cruiser
@@frankauer99 why srt4 swap a pt cruiser when you can buy a pt cruiser gt with the same motor? 🤔
@@frankauer99 the turbo motor that comes factory in the PT comes from the SRT4
I used to own a 2001 Nissan Maxima SE 20th anniversary with the 3.0 VQ and a 5 speed. Despite having 260,000 miles and riddled with issues when I bought it she was actually pretty quick for a V6. I loved that car I would definitely get another one in a heart beat!
You really enjoyed this car...I had a 1995 se manual with cloth interior with heated front seats...and it was quick running down mustang's and camaros back in 1997 thru 2000...luv the channel dude
People have been modifying these for years. Granted I’m in my mid thirties
NISformance Edition Maximas !! Nice video!!!!!!!!
This is the sleeper-er version of the Altima SE-R. That was a fun car.
Ian Artimovich someone in my town has a straight piped SE-R and man it’s so fucking load. I heard it take off behind me and thought it was a GTR, but nope, it was an Altima. 😂
Tyler Beeson was it red?
No. My VQ Sentra is the sleeper
I love those cars they're really underappreciated
DAMN! I was actually excited to watch this. I used to have a Maxima. Previous generation from this one. I truly miss it. It was quick for stock when you got a full exhaust and intake. The response is great. Especially the sound. Thanks for reminding me of the smiles I had driving it.
I have an 03 6 speed maxima. I got it for $1900, and it's a blast. Just wish there was better aftermarket support. Great video bro.
That's just a stock engine from a 09+ Maxima which has the newer heads like an HR engine giving it amazing top end compared to the earlier 3.5' Vq's.. basically a 5.5 Gen Maxima with a 7Gen Maxima engine
Hopefully you’ve got more reviews like this on the horizon “The average mans swap”.
Now we need Mr Regular to Review one of these
Thank you so much for reviewing this car it's a strange coincidence because we're looking to take the engines transmission subframe off a Nissan Maxima and put it in the rear of a 240 SX s13 and make the first Mid Engine s13
Haha nice man! People have no idea how much of a sleeper theae VQ35Des are, free up the air flow and they make crazy good power. Makes me miss mine even more, i had an 03 6speed max with cams, 11.1 compression pistons, Rev limiter to 7800rpms, 3inch Cattman exhaust, 3ypipe, 4inch intake, 350z Haltech with pnp harness, you would have absolutely loved my car man.
i guess you can kill a 911 with this
A yellow one to be exact:)
Driver mod
Turbo + driver mod...... to be exact
Maxima’s have always been quick cars my mom had a 1994 when I was kid it had the vg30 shared with the 300zx they used to have a sticker on the drivers glass that said 4dsc meaning 4 door sports car 😂
Okay I love this and have the same engine but it’s not an hr it’s a de with HR heads. And it’s not from a 350z it’s from an 07+Altima or 09+ maxima
He literally said this around 1:20
Christian Woods Ik but the title is misleading and he said it’s a de and the guy just added hr heads which is also false. It’s the whole engine from a Altima 07+ or maxima 09+. That’s all
How much did your build cost? Is it really as simple as just swapping the hr heads, valves/valve train, and a intake onto the stock de?
@@dlo7950 that's what i been wondering too, really want to know if you just gotta swap the heads.
This is awesome. The name of the shop is Nisformance in Mebane, NC. I just had them swap in a 2nd gen VQ from a 2013 Maxima (fwd HR swap) into my Altima SE-R. It is so much more fun to drive AND i get better gas mileage.
Ahh The Good O'l Maxima Days when I was 19 I Had a 2001 VQ30DEK Maxima that would put a lot of cars in their place and now I have a G35 Coupe but something about Maxima's just make me want to go back to One again from the simple fact that they are good all around in terms of room and space while still being some what fast. Great Video like always David!
Looks like my 01 SE 5 speed 3.0. Miss it.
My parents have a 2003 Altima with vq35de engine with automatic. I'd like to swap it to a manual.
Ahh reminds me of Tavarish' car

I have a 2012 Maxima and recently put a cat back exhaust on it, it’s amazing how people change their mind from “rice” to “sounds amazing”. :)
The 5th gen maximas are absolutely the best. I had an 02 GLE fully loaded as my very first car and tbh at that time 255hp was fast for me and I loved it! You hook a car like this up right and it’s amazing.
3:10 he was so serious when the torque smacks u
Maxima comes stock with 350z motor already
Stock vq35de*
@ILL SUBZ what 350z do you have? Bc the hr (highest power making 350z) only made 311 hp from the factory... and that's 311 CRANK hp
This isn't true. 350z is a rwd platform the bottom end of the vq will not fit a fwd Nissan platform. This is a Nissan Altima 3.5 vq35de with hr heads. And Altima 6 spd trans
@@joeynismo1320 This is a Maxima not an Altima.
I'm talking about the engine and trans they used.
1:35 that sounds like it’s straight from NFS Pro Street
I had a 95 and a 99 se maxima. They ripped, came stock with an LSD and sounded great. Drove it from 2002 to 2009. It also looked great
I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima SE and it's super fun to drive, I love how it sounds and looks.
It’s a 2nd gen DE swap. Not swapped heads from a 350z. If you can get your reviews down with other stuff why can’t you be more accurate on this?
Maybe he meant to say, " It's got heads similar to the 350z".
Trumpet? This sounds like an angry elephant
Good work continued Greetings from Algeria and not Nigeria
I loved my Maxima, it was a 2000, 3.0L with no exhaust, it sounded amazing, it was a great first car.
mazdaspeed 6. My father's friend owned it and it only had coilovers, wheels and tires, an exhaust, a rebuilt stock turbo, and a tune. He tuned it himself and the thing made 300 whp and it was a blast to ride in
i thought this was a regularcarreviews 😂😂
i have always liked nissan maximas, such a shame they were discontinued in 2001 in the UK due to poor sales, now finding one at all is rare 😐
E_Cross486 you need America we have a lot of them
Not worth the hassle of importing one (we have no 25 year rule for incoming imports, but it can be expensive)
Bought a 03 6mt Maxima new and my bestfriend had a new 03 350z and I smoked him time after time in his Automatic ! Lots of drive train loss with Z and maxima is lighter
Nissan is still putting CVT's in the Maximas, they just changed it to make it feel like it's not a CVT..
@@uptownsamcv I know that I was just pointing out the years that were known for CVT failure
@@Trudayoungin I heard that even the latest Maximas are having CVT issues..
YES YES YES! Maximas are great cars even in stock form! Had a gen 4 gle and the engine was so smooth and could cruise at high speeds and pull like it was nothing
