Hello buddy! I read the comments by people asking what thickness is the metal and i can see answers from 16 to 20 ga, so what thickness it is actually? Also, do you use the same sheet metal for the main part the the same for the sides or you are using more slim sheet on the sides? Finally, EXCELENT work. I loved it so much that i decided to make mine from sheet metal as well instead of plywood. Seems a lot less work also,. Cheers
@GravesGREECE Sorry about the inconsistent answers. The thickness for the whole thing is 16ga. I have the sides cut long at 4in at my sheet metal supplier.
@@DerekConwayTX thanks for the answer! You mean 4 inch wide and as long as the sheet metal goes? I was thinking about the depth of the letters about 7-8 inches, is 4 inch wide enough for them to be stable?
@GravesGREECE 5in is good too depending on the size of letter. You want them to look proportionate. Yes I have them cut in strips as long as the sheet metal is, usually 10ft, then cut the pieces to desired length.
@@DerekConwayTX Thanks! Propably gonna go for 6 inch to feel more safe! Just went over my local metal supply shop and had no 1.5mm sheet metal available but only 1.25mm. Do you think its gonna work too?
Man I love your channel and the things you make! Don’t take it the wrong way please...no matter how good the ventilation is in your shop, please wear a respirator when grinding and painting.
Why not aluminium or descaled Stainless? Plus I'd have thought the least you'd need on mild steel would be powder coating or better still galvanising. These will rust within weeks especially the welds
Powder coat is obviously always better. However oil based enamel blocks any moisture creating rust. Also when these rental compaies are on a budget thats what they choose knowing the risks ahead of time.
Hello do you sell your letters I would like to inquire commissioning you for BABY in 36in height? Is this something you do and ship? How heavy are they and can they get wet?
Sir, can it be done in aluminium instead of steel? Any tricks / tips welding without overheating aluminium when using similar thickness as yours? Good work
Aha the beauty of manual fabrication cannot be matched. Excellent work. Lol I really don't see where that comment about China and machinery came from. Whats the fun in that for projects like this anyways.
This is a cool workshop. Handcrafted in America 🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍 great job sir!
Yes indeed! 🇺🇸
Nice work Derek!
Thanks man

This process is very backward. China has now used machines to slot and use laser welding.
