One addition I would make to the list is Wonder. It is a blue creature that gives your creatures flying so long as it is in the graveyard and you have an island. It’s the perfect looter card for this deck.

I never see anyone mention Silversmote Ghoul, a zombie thats basically custom made for Varina decks that will help fuel all the fun synergies.

Storm of souls is another mass reanimate spell I play in my varina deck. Brings all your creatures back as 1/1 flyers that are spirits in addition to their other types

Repository skaab is a great way to recycle mass reanimate effects like zombie apocalypse. Has exploit and when it exploits you return an instant or sorcery to your hand

Please run wonder if you dont run anything like prison effects. I generally run solitary confinement or try to gain enough life to edge out the damage.

I love Varina, she used to be one of my best decks then I took her apart when Legends Came out with Hullbreacher, was thinking of building her again but then Orcish Bowmasters showed up.

Varina has the life gain trigger to even out bowmaster burn and there are many 1/1 1 mana options that deal 1 damage on death. Which will kill the bowmaster, shambling ghast doubles as a wincon.
Alternatively you can use an opponants bowmaster for politics. Im p sure its any target not the play who drew.

Perfect deck for living death since you’re throwing so many creatures in the graveyard with varina, especially when you have a sac outlet and it’s a one sided wipe and mass reanimation spell

One of my Favourite decks has been Wilhelt for the longest time.. my issue with him is that I consider him as a “fair” Commander, and my current build struggles to compete at higher power levels which is where most of my regular opponents play at.
I think I’m honestly tempted to transition into Esper.. I think this Commander does so much for the deck, in addition to access to white. As soon as you said “Cathars Crusade” I was sold 😆

Any update to this? Got into commander about a month ago with a mothman mill deck. This game is so much fun compared to yugioh/pokemon. Anyways, zombies are gonna be my 2nd commander deck and was just wondering if theirs any new spicy techs i should look out for.

Necroduality will not trigger when making token zombies. It's only on ETB of a nontoken zombie that you'll make a token copy.

Right it triggers in cast or if we have undying 😉 if I said otherwise anywhere I was mistaken but the math all checks out.

If you have Havengul Lich and Rooftop Storm, you're a fool not to include Sidisi, Undead Vizier.
This allows you to tutor anything in your deck for 1 Mana!
Not only are you able to answer anything that is going on, but if the game is going too long, you can simply assemble an infinite win.

One can make a similar argument about repository skab the only issue like sedesi is it could just end up being overpriced or dead in ones hand, which is not terrible as varina cycles alot but one may just find a more consistant card to fill the slot in the 99.

see most of my cards in there, but some that no one notices how good it is on her, are, vault of the archangel, ghoulcaller gisa, and desolation twin(this 2 are more like a combo, you can make a lot of zombie tokens with this 2, and you can even combo with liliana death majesty, turning the desolation twin in a zombie, bringing back from the dead with gisa and geralf), and ratradabik. Most of this cards i just think that are pretty good cards and love to play with my opponents hate xD

Hey @decktechsfordecks ive watched a lot of your builds and it seems like you always go very light on removal. Why is that?

I try to average 10’forms of removal 3 being board wipes. I like to see everyone do their thing. So instead of trying to stop others from winning I try to either win first by getting my engine up and drawing into my answers or I’m fine not having the answers and losing. 😁

I don’t like to see games drag on and running a huge amount of interaction to stop everyone’s deck from working just results in 3h games I’m just not fond of if that makes sense. So I try to focus on making resident decks with minimal interaction 😁
