Best review of this amp I've watched! Straight through the modes detailing the different sounds without ten minutes of showing off between switches. Great way to demonstrate the contrasts.
I got this app from another guitar shop that has a G in its title and I’ve got to say received it Sunday played with it for a few hours before I went out to gig with it and all my mates at the gig‘s fault I had a tube in there or it was fully tubed so that’s goes to show and I was quite smug because nobody ever seen this before and they were with the hot rod deluxe is in the reverb deluxe and orange amps, worried about taking them out in the wind and rain and there was me with a perfect tone in fact everybody wanted to go on it so I wouldn’t be surprised if these apps will be out of stock soon. Get them while you can. Adam.
I have a Katana, and it’s great, but this looks better. I don’t use high gain at all, and there seems to be a lot more low gain versatility from the panel with the catalyst. Of course that’s what you expect. The Katana was the target, and this looks like a direct hit. The Katana might still hold Its own if you use a lot of gain.
My main gripe with the Katana was that I could never get a genuine clean sound. The clean channel sounded like it had a "blanket over everything" sound.
@@finishin.my.coffee8780 That's what I like about it. A completely clean channel is way too sterile for me. I like a little crunch to warm up the sound a little, but every gain effect I've ever tried is way more than I want. The little bit of crunch on the clean channel on the Katana is just what I want. What I like about the Catalyst, though is that it has four low-gain amp models where the Katana only has one. You don't know until you play it of course, but I'm definitely interested.
@@peterwilson8039 Every once in a while I like the super clean, sparkly tone. I grew up listening to Metallica and a few of their songs call for a very clean sound with some chorus, for example Call Of Ktulu. Its been difficult to do on the Katana because the clean channel has no articulation and the lead channel, which I usually use with the gain dialed way back for cleans, has the articulation but still too much hair. For leads and distorted rhythm, I've heard the Catalyst described as JVM-like. The JVM is my favorite amp of all time, especially for lower to mid-gain tones.
It does have a presence knob, so you can try to dial it out for each preset. I am still wondering the same thing and am eager to play with this in person.
When using the editor to create a patch how many effect can be use simultaneously, also on the 100/200 using midi how many fx can be used simultaneously. When recording via usb is there a stereo option, and when playing through headphones is it in stereo ?
I also thought the same thing. He didn't scoop (lower) the mids (they were actually up really high on the Hi Gain channel demo) like a lot of metal guys would probably do, and it's even worse on a bright guitar like a Strat with single coils.
@@iamtorrego Line 6 is great if you spend thousands of dollars. But nothing Line 6 makes in the same price point as the Katana MK2 100watt comes even close.
@@johnbrown6189 Well, apparently the Catalyst IS being touted not only as a direct competitor for that said Katana, but also many are saying it is superior in the sound category. And in reality, you do not need to spend a thousand dollars to get something great form Line 6. I payed $70 for Helix Native in my studio (deal from having a Helix) and for the price, it has being glorious. I continue to use it even after selling my Helix.
@@iamtorrego Helix Native is not an amp. It's a software plug in. So not apples to apples. And as far as the Catalyst the Katana came first and Line made the Catalyst to catch up. Is the Catalyst better? To early to tell.
@@johnbrown6189 Yes, my point is you were saying that Line 6 is great going up to a thousand, which in term of products in general well, it is not true. But if amp is the topic, I also do not agree. Line 6 had so many amps in the style of Katana for YEARS before the Katana itself, with models like Flextone (late 90's) and Spiders coming not long after this. I want to understand how to use the amp but all I get are a bunch of show offs who want to showcase their mediocre playing. Maybe try teaching! But you learn nothing other than I know stuff you don't. That's not teaching that is showboating. To teach, l put myself into a beginners shoes. I don't show off that is counter peoductive. You don't care about my expertise you care about whether l can move your knowledge closer to mine. If l can explain something in a way that bridges where you are currently to one step closer to me I've done my job. I don't need you to walk way impressed at my ability I want you to walk away better at what you want to do than when you walked in. Hands on...manipulate buttons turn knobs and here is the result. Teaching isn't difficult if you are willing to put your ego aside for just a moment and communicate.
That's because the close mic'd the speaker and that's how the tone is dialed in... ! Bang for ya buck the thing is real good based on other demos I've watched on YT !
Diggin the tones and dynamics of Catalyst over the Katana .😎👍
200 wt version in stereo kickin butt?!!

Refreshingly straightforward, yet complete. Thanks!
That black headstock strat is georgeus!
Isn't it just! I love it!!
Just bought 200 watt today
Sounds better than any line 6 amps
I've ever played
Takes pedals
Awesome !!!
How much line 6 did you have in your life ? I’m hesitating between this one and the new katana
@@alexdenton6586 get this i love mine so much i dont even play my 5150 combo now
Always love seeing Ross on these demos, seems like a lovely chap
He's not. It's all an act. ;-)
Thank you for the quick and concise review!
Ross!!! The man, the legend!!! 🤘😜👍 Miss ya, mate!! Killer playing, as always!!! 👏👏👏😉
Great demo

Great demo! Nice paying and not so much talking 👍👍👍
Sounds great, do you get a foot switch, really like the cleans, one thing that my katana lacks!!
Two-button foot switch available for US $40.
Hello,
How that was recorded? Microphones? Is there a room mic as well?
I would really appreciate the answer. Going to take this amp for sure.
Thanks!
Since it’s going to sound different in person I have to ask, does it have any of the classic Line 6 fizz that we all hate and despise?
It does have a presence knob, so you can try to dial it out for each preset. I am still wondering the same thing and am eager to play with this in person.
So tell me how do does one 'CUT THE CORD' to the guitar on this amp?
I love my catalyst so much. I quit playing my 5150 combo
How many effects can you have in a chain at once?
Hi There, Nice review and your playing is ripping. I have the 60w, can I output that to a cab? I see what I think is that in edit software
When using the editor to create a patch how many effect can be use simultaneously, also on the 100/200 using midi how many fx can be used simultaneously. When recording via usb is there a stereo option, and when playing through headphones is it in stereo ?
1 effect + reverb
can you only access two channels (presets) with the Footswitch ?
Nice but I’d like to hear it not drenched in reverb
Which Strat model is that? Looks great.
Figured it out. It's the Fender Ultra Luxe Stratocaster. $2499 in the US. Nice guitar.
Can I play my bass on it
@2:57 Why are you using a single coil because, no, that doesn't sound massive at all.
You weren't joking. That was not a good demonstration of that channel.
I also thought the same thing. He didn't scoop (lower) the mids (they were actually up really high on the Hi Gain channel demo) like a lot of metal guys would probably do, and it's even worse on a bright guitar like a Strat with single coils.
Is this the Boss Katana killer?
Killer? Klone? Kinda like? Cata? Nah!
No way!!! Lol
Not everything, acoustic or bass settings?
I am Katana you will never defeat me!!!
Man oh man with tubes becoming scarce and prohibitively expensive us broke ass guitar player need SS amps to keep getting better!
You don’t need to change tubes often. I changed my 10 tubes after 13 years just to experiment. They still worked
Line 6 has to play catch up with Boss.
Said no one.
