Man thank you so much for such a great cover of this saw, I just purchased one as a beginner woodworking hobbyist and couldn't be more pleased ......thanks again
I'm in love with this saw, I been left behind in the 18v but I think this saw will help me cross over. I have a 12 double bevel sliding right now. It's huge and heavy. I am a new home detailer that does punch list items. I keep my saw in the back of my truck and have to pull it to the end then run an extension cord to the house just to cut one cut some times then have to roll my cord up and sit the saw back in place. But this one is small enough I can keep right in the back ready for a cut and move on to the next house or the next work order. I usually cut door casings, base up to 5 1/4 , scribe, and the occasional crown. This saw is perfect for me. Ive been seeing the box at home depot but it wasn't until they had a display model that I fell in love with it.
I love this saw. The cordless is great and cuts great but the best thing is the weight. Carrying a giant 12” saw to cut 1x6” pine etc is where this really shines for me.
Dewalt lists the maximum vertical cut at 3.5". A 4x4 us actually 3.5"x3.5". I wish someone would truly verify if these can cut a 4x4, because according to dewalts specs, it should be able to. This is the only 7 1/4 miter saw I have found with a 3.5" vertical cut depth.
Steven it won’t, but just flip the 4x4 after the first cut and cut the other side. I built a deck that had 14 4x4’s that had to be cut and it works that way. I have built multiple things that used 4x4’s with this saw.
Thanks for the easy to follow review. I'm a beginner to carpentry but want a miner saw for future home DIY projects. You convinced me to go with DEWALT for my saws. Thanks again!
I noticed you changed the blade to a diablo blade, were you not satisfied with the dewalt blade ? Mine came with a 40 tooth blade but I purchased a 60 tooth dewalt blade but haven't used it yet .
Your review had me getting this to use with my son's battery path. With mine being the Milwaukee M12/M18 path, our use just couldn't justify the price difference and the build quality of this shines hard (even though it isn't as full featured as the M18 Fuel). We are really looking forward to how this nice little powerful saw will be upping our mobility game with cedar fencing and trim work. It's not often that compromise can be accepted so easily to be absolutely no compromise at all. What a great review. Thank you.
Steve Rob Home Depot Canada has the kit option available for order online (7-12 day delivery wait)... somewhat pricey even with the exchange rate. JCCayer can special order both the kit and the bare tool but their prices are even more on the crazy high side. Might be awhile before other stores/retailers pick it up and bring down the price.
The things lithium is able to run is incredible, ni cads would've never done that. I thought we'd never have circular saws that could run on 18v batteries, now we have even bigger tools that run on batteries.
By far the best review of this new saw! I appreciate that you took the time to demonstrate cutting base and crown and other real job cuts instead of just straight cuts like all the other reviewers. Thanks man.
Do you think dewalt would be coming out with a brushless version anytime soon since this saw has been out for over 5 years ? I'm debating on whether to get this saw or the brushless Milwaukee saw.
+John Jon I dont cut metal with my miter saws or circ saws......I do however have a review coming up on a metal cutting circ saw, so I can try and get some aluminum for that video. Thanks for the suggestion!
I just spoke with a DeWalt Rep. The saw does come with a 7-1/4" miter saw blade. The difference is that it has a negative rake. You will get a better cut by using the DeWalt blade. However I know most people will be buying a Diablo blade instead. Either way, nice review and Happy Holidays
+Nalu Rash Thanks Nalu! I use the 7-1/4" Diablo Blades for consistency, and because they are readily available at Home Depot. Interesting news on the Dewalt blade though.....I will look into that...thanks!
Interesting how it casts a shadow on one side and a light on the other side whereas the XPS system on the 780 casts a pure shadow line down the middle with equal light on both sides.
Patrick Ellis This is my first experience with a Dewalt miter saw with the XPS system.....I really like it, and hopefully will get to try out the larger units at some point soon so I can see what you mean. Thanks for the update!
Patrick Ellis It does also produce a pure shadow line just like the bigger saws with XPS system. You just have to lower the blade a little more. I just bought this saw and I am really happy with it.
Bad ass sliding miter saw . I defiantly think dewalt is who comes to mind when people think of any kind of chop saw. This saw is another reason why lol
I have a question. I'm not all that familiar with carpentry. What is it that a miter saw can do that a table saw can't? Which is more versatile to have if you only have one?
Bigchuck678 A table saw is primarily for ripping plywood and making rip cuts (lengthwise of wood). A Miter saw is far better at crosscutting wood within its specs to a desired length, such as cutting down 2x4's. If you can only have one then a table saw can make all cuts with a proper jig for each cut, However having both is really the best way. You can find miter saw very cheap.
Bigchuck678 +TheVelluch has it 100% correct.....sorry for the delay! Starting out, you would be better to go Jigsaw, then Circular Saw, then table saw, then miter saw in my opinion.
+jharris280zx I know some people use standard miter saws & circular saws for metal. Personally I would not suggest it, since they are specifically designed for wood (torque applied through a cut). The metal circular & chop saws are completely geared differently & wont "burn up" like a normal unit with extended use cutting through metal.
I’ve tried it out used for a month and very disappointing had to return it cause it’s only battery operated they made the 12in corded and cordless WHY NOT THROWING IN A F... ADAPTER for this one too.
Just spotted this saw in my local Home Depot store. Really appreciate your thorough review. Thanks!!! I have their big 12" compound sliding miter in my shop but really need something more portable to take on the road. Just curious, what's the make and model of your miter saw stand???
Thanks! I am glad you liked it. The miter saw stand is a Ryobi A18MS01 ($99 in the store at Home Depot) m.homedepot.com/p/Ryobi-Miter-Saw-Stand-A18MS01/100397569
Probably not. A regular circ saw can't cut through a 4x4 so this is bascially the same blade as a circ saw but miter saw. If you wanna cut a ,4x4 12 in miter saws are best. Sorry for replying 3 years late buddy 😂
Luis Munoz cordless only. The only tool they have with that adapter is the dual battery flexvolt chopsaw. It lasts a very long time on one battery though. 270 cuts 3/4” pine with one 4.0ah battery. 5/4 PT decking it’s close to 200 cuts I bet. Hope that helps
One thing you didn't mention is that when you miter to the right, the motor prevents you from cutting 3 1/2 inch material vertically. You can only cut about 2 inches vertically when mitered to the right. Found that out today and was rather disappointed. Sure you can lay it flat and bevel it, but it still sucks.
+Got Metal 7-1/4" blades definitely have their limitations....being lightweight & extremely portable are two big advantages of this VS a 10" or 12" miter saw though. Thanks for pointing that out & taking the time to comment.
Real Tool Reviews Indeed those are great advantages. I still love the saw and will definitely use the hell out of it. Just thought I'd point that out as I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere before. Great review btw.
Great review! Very helpful and informative! I'm already on the Makita 18v lineup, my question is would you think that this saw and the 16 gauge nailer coming out would make it worthwhile having 2 different 18v lineups (purchasing Dewalt tools/batteries/charger) or do you think makita's 18v mitre saw and 18gauge nailer would be sufficient enough to remain with only 1 18v lineup? Have you ever used makita's 18v mitre saw?
***** I have not used the Makita 18v saw or nailer, so I could not say. However, all of the Makita tools that I have used have been top notch. I personally would not have an issue with more than one battery platform, since a lot of times when you buy a kit --- the batttery/charger that comes with the tool is heavily discounted in price (vs buying individually).
Damn nice video. Really appreciate it. I'm a little late to the 20 volt party (buying a piece at a time) but I'm going to pull the trigger on this saw. Thanks again 👍👍
great review! one question, will it cut the 3 1/2" base vertically in a 45 degree to the right also? I seen it does to the left. I install a lot of base but don't like cutting the angles while it lays flat, pain in butt, thx
Go this from Canada about 4 months ago dewalt factory outlet worked out £200 quid and 100 quid shipping and tax . So in good old England they'll charge us wot £400 great saw though
Great review. I feel like the saw bevels the wrong direction. I would have much rather seen it bevel to the right as it keeps the blade away from my hands and doesn't create a blind zone during cuts.
Mike L. Thanks Mike! The runtime definitely surprised me too.....glad I had it hooked up to the dust separator --- I had almost 1 gallon of fine dust collected in that thing when I got done!
Good job. Can't wait to see how Milwaukee responds. I have always liked DeWalt's chop saws and own one. Prefer Milwaukee for most other stuff but I've always considered chop saws to be DeWalt's and Bosch's stuff to be the best.
I always look forward to watching your tool reviews. You do a very thorough job, one of the best I'd say. Just had a question about the blades. Miter Saw blades have a different rake on them, and I would imagine that a 7-1/4" Miter Saw blade would be hard to find. Do you think a regular 7-1/4" Circ Saw Blade would be okay to use?
Nalu Rash Thanks! I appreciate it :) Sorry for not being clearer in the video, but this uses normal 7-1/4" circular saw blades (there are no 7-1/4" miter saw blades). I prefer using Diablo Demo Demon 24-tooth blades in my testing of circular saws, to make things always a level playing field across various brands of saws. They are at Home Depot for about $15/each. Also, for finer finish cuts you can use a 40-tooth or 60-tooth blade.....the 24-tooth is better for the run time testing since I can cut faster & get more cuts. One thing to note --- pay attention to the blade direction when installing a blade (not the paint/words on the blade since it varies from one manufacturer to the next).
I use 24 tooth and 40 tooth cutting crown molding etc. Awesome saw and cheap to keep a good blade in it vs a 10” or 12”. I also use the Diablo blades. Home Depot has deals 2 for the price of 1 on those a lot of times so $15 for 2
I was at home depot looking at tools today in one of the aisles when i heard your intro song come on and it sounded really familiar so I walked to the end of the aisle and they had a dewalt section where they sold their tools and this same video was playing on the tv that was displaying their tools as well as other tool reviews of their tools. do you know about this? anyways thought it was pretty cool! keep it up
Awesome review, and way to go dewalt. But I know you know something about Milwaukees? Do you? Throw your audience a wink and tell me about it lol I'm pretty sure everyone is wondering where is Milwaukees miter saw???
B Kelley If you are only using it in the same location, I tend to agree with you.....I think that this is definitely geared towards people moving from job to job & not dealing with large boards much.
I’ve watched several videos before getting started and I find that your video is the best and you explain things very clearly. Congratulations!!!
Man thank you so much for such a great cover of this saw, I just purchased one as a beginner woodworking hobbyist and couldn't be more pleased ......thanks again
I bought this saw 3 years ago just because of this great video. It’s beat up a bit, but still going strong!
👍🏻👍🏻 Thank you!
wonder why it doesnt have brushless motor
I love the portability. After several years of owning it I found out it has the light. Lol 😂
Flip the dust bag over and it will reduce the dust from dumping out when you remove it 😉
I'm in love with this saw, I been left behind in the 18v but I think this saw will help me cross over.

BEST TOOL/REVIEW CHANNEL ON UA-cam HANDS DOWN! CONCISE, ARTICULATE AND VERY THOROUGH REVIEW OF THE TOOL DU JOUR.
I love this saw. The cordless is great and cuts great but the best thing is the weight. Carrying a giant 12” saw to cut 1x6” pine etc is where this really shines for me.

I noticed you changed the blade to a diablo blade, were you not satisfied with the dewalt blade ? Mine came with a 40 tooth blade but I purchased a 60 tooth dewalt blade but haven't used it yet .
The ONLY factory blade that is any good is Makita. Every single other brand is contractor-grade at best.

Great video ! I was interested in this miter saw and your video answered all of my questions. Thank you!
Incredible count on cutting 2x4'S. I'll have to see if it's available in Canada , no more genset running all day. Thanks , never knew they existed.
Steve Rob Thanks Steve!......they actually just came out, so I would assume if you can get USA tools there, your Dewalt dealer can get one of these.

this or the flexvolt model?
Not a flexvolt
@@proverbs2life was asking which one is better
Good video.
I find it odd that Dewalt includes a 5aH battery with the 6-1/2" Circular Saw but only 4aH with the 7-1/4" Miter Saw.
You can cut 3 1/2 inch base standing up left or right. I'm rehabbing a house right now and that's what I use. It's working like a champ.
can you make a test with a metal blade cutting aluminium? like aluminium door frames, trims, laminate skirting. cheers

VS the Dewalt with the RIDGID 18 Volt Lithium-Ion 7 1/4 inch Dual Bevel Sliding Miter Saw with Brushless Motor R48607K
or more like which one would you buy if you can? I am thinking of getting the RIDGID 18 Volt Lithium-Ion 7 1/4 inch R48607K or the DEWALT DCS361
Absolutely the RIDGID, but I’m not sure if they still make them or not.
Can you cut 3 1/2" base to the left on a 45 with the full piece extending out to the right of the saw? Thanks
+Riptide 10x Not sure....but if I get another section in here, I will try it out.
Need put brushless motor in miter saw and using fexvolt saw blades
I would imagine they will be upgrading this at some point......7-1/4" & the 12" Flexvolt.....definitely room to expand.
Brushless doesn't necessarily mean more powerful a quality brushed motor can be just as powerful if not more powerful
is this saw better than the makita 18v mitre saw???
+154electrician

Interesting how it casts a shadow on one side and a light on the other side whereas the XPS system on the 780 casts a pure shadow line down the middle with equal light on both sides.

2" x 4" wood

I always look forward to watching your tool reviews. You do a very thorough job, one of the best I'd say. Just had a question about the blades. Miter Saw blades have a different rake on them, and I would imagine that a 7-1/4" Miter Saw blade would be hard to find. Do you think a regular 7-1/4" Circ Saw Blade would be okay to use?

I use 24 tooth and 40 tooth cutting crown molding etc. Awesome saw and cheap to keep a good blade in it vs a 10” or 12”. I also use the Diablo blades. Home Depot has deals 2 for the price of 1 on those a lot of times so $15 for 2
