Also when you're smart and think a lot and think about thinks like solipsism, nihilism, etc that crap makes you super depressed. Wheen you think about how in the long term, life doesn't really matter it makes you depressed
I have FELT physically the adage that “ignorance is bliss.” I’ve often felt like if I could just think less, be less logical, be less serious, be less smart, I’d be so much lighter and happier. Unburdened. Apparently, I was actually correct. That’s a real SOB.
A big part can also be that people with high IQ can have a difficult time fitting in and having close friends. Especially if your iq developed but your social skills are not so much. Also having a family with lower iq, simpler thinking and interests is really lonely for a child with high iq.
I've worked in places where people who lack any awareness, and seem simple minded appear to enjoy small things, and spend every day laughing. At the same time they very rarely considered how their actions impacted others. On the other hand I care so much that I can't stop seeing every little issue, every unsafe action, or procedure. I don't want to be ignorant but it would be nice if I could shut it off sometimes. It definitely raises my anger and depression levels. Idk if intelligence is necessarily a factor, but I am empathetic, maybe more than many people. Sometimes I feel physical discomfort when I hear about other people's pain. It makes it difficult to feel happy when you perceive so many flaws in the hierarchy of society, the injustice, the waste, the destruction of the family, and the list can go on and on. The most important lesson I've learned from some of the most impressive people on the planet is to act in spite of my depression and anxiety; Even when you don't want to do something you do it anyway, and the more you force yourself to act that way, the easier it becomes to do it naturally. There's no special trick, you just have to overcome that powerful feeling inside you that tells you to run.
Existential anguish is an important part of the problem. Why do we exist? Eternity? Infinity? What happens if I don't exist? Eternal return? Does the Universe transcend or it is for it the same if we disappear? Does God exist? Is there free will? Mmm, I am feeling a bit of nausea ... better to see some intranscendent Tiktok videos 😅
Even if someone is aware of all the problems they are dealing with, realizing your own faults hurt a lot more than realizing faults in others, being aware of the problem you inflict on others can be very depressing and can lead to an induvidual feeling worthless as they realize their faults, People usually cope with believing they are completely in the moral high ground but someone with a rational mind cant do that
Was just wondering this last night. I don’t know if iq is necessarily the best measurement but a correlation between those with more awareness and insight and those with depression makes a lot of sense.
IQ is literally the best measurement as of right now. Intelligence is your ability to reason, understand, figure out, articulate and to identify problems which encompasses pattern recognition, awareness and insight. Intelligence is logic. IQ test accomplish this decently with math, pattern tests and reasoning questions. It is actually considered both statistically reliable and valid by psychologist but obviously it’s not perfect and a close enough estimate with a standard deviation of 10-15 in whatever IQ point you’ve gotten but again it is the best right now because it actually test your abilities. People have issues with IQ test reducing your intelligence to numbers but that is precisely how you measure things. You can’t measure without quantifiable numbers or measurements. Someone somewhere is probably also gonna mention but social “intelligence”, physical awareness or creativity is intelligence too. You can argue for anything here since these can be even less tangible or even harder to test but they are both loosely and closely linked depending on context, perspectives and your definition of intelligence. Also you can get good at IQ test but you aren’t suppose to actively learn how to get a high score on this thing. It’s meant to test you a few times to get an accurate assessment.
That's why I stop thinking when I realise something bad is happening to me. If I can't act on it, I can at least not make it worse by fully realizing the extension of the damage all at once. I had some panic attacks once, and I don't want to go through them ever again.
Eckhart Tolle stated basically that ego death which may be part of the awakening process has the symptoms of depression. I think it's true because I've had somewhat regular depression throughout my development and also had many insights and I've even been FOCUSED on developing insight.
Thank you so much for this comment. I read a bit of Tolle and I didn't expect to be impressed but being able to detect and set aside my "pain body" has been a game changer. Better than antidepressants by far! I still have a lot to read but I just had to say thanks for putting me on 👊
It's not just awareness of one's personal situation. It's awareness of horrors perpetrated all around us, be it the institutionalized depersonization of 'minorities', rampant crime, ecological collapse, etc., etc., etc. You become aware at an early age of how messed up the world around you is and how small and helpless you are to make a difference.
Too many people think they’re smart and read too much hopeful self validating correlations like this. You can be dumb and depressed. You can be smart and happy and most don’t consider themselves depressed either according to the video. Chances are you’re average. You’re also not the gifted kid either. I see that a lot. If you turned out average after your peak in childhood then you never were gifted. You’ve simply fulfilled your potential a little sooner or excelled at something easy earlier but when adulthood came you were through and through average and everyone caught up leaving you behind
@@saosaqii5807 The notion that if gifted people peaked in their childhood that means they, “weren’t actually gifted” doesn’t follow. It presumes that everyone must live up to their full potential for that potential to have existed at all. It disregards external factors that might hamper otherwise gifted people, and implies that society is meritocratic when that’s not necessarily the case. Outcomes are not always fair, and gifted people aren’t any less prone to psychological, medical, or situational problems which can prevent their success. Especially when the “gift” we’re talking about is intelligence… a trait which does not always correlate with success.
@@drksideofthewal Nice valid argument haven’t heard that b4. However potential unfulfilled is rather meaningless because kids are the embodiment of infinite potential but without fulfilling anything “gift” cannot just equate to having high potential because just having potential and no realization is rather useless and you can’t really measure potential in the first place. For that reason gift can be realized potential because that is observable and can be compared. You’re also assuming someone is gifted or had signs in being gifted to begin with. My premise was that majority of “gifted” people were not actually gifted and again average. So many times you see the trend of teachers, family or friends calling you smart, talented or gifted. But this is becoming such an generic compliment that it’s purpose is to just be nice and not actually mean much. Maybe in childhood you have achieved above average performance for that age range or had a unique hobby that temporary stood out because kids are allowed to have different rates of development and fluctuations but once adulthood solidifies you see who stands out and who retains greater ability and skills. That is when childhood gift becomes real or not. I’m also not saying they can’t continue to improve but generally this is a great plateau when most people live life and start to settle to become average. I have both conflated gifted with success and not really. To me gifted means skill, it means exceptional talent, genius or prodigy in something. Gifted should mean success in that domain but it doesn’t have to translate to any other success like becoming rich. If you’re actually gifted you will display some skill, ingenuity, intellect or insight even in hardship. An instance would be a prodigy piano player. Maybe they won’t be successful later on as a musician but it’s an obvious case of gift and high achievement in playing piano as it something most kids can’t even begin to master at that age. Even in hardship you may have seen a poor drummer using only buckets with no proper equipment or education yet still making great sound. Those I consider gift and talent. The idea and definition of gift is also really up to semantics. It means different things to different people but ultimately you can argue for anything if the definitions are flexible but I think judging talent should be in case by case basis. I’m also not saying you wrong, no black and whites. This is a weighted opinion. I think you’re right in some ways but I lean towards my opinion.
@@saosaqii5807 nice debate going on so figured I’d pipe in! What qualifies as gifted / talented, like you said, can be subjective from person to person but I think in your case, you value the perseverance and dedication as integral parts of being gifted which to me I’d say shouldn’t always be a part of it (or at least having done so through childhood / school should still count) My issue being, what about an instance where a child is “gifted”, doing extremely well with their studies or a chosen passion and seemingly not having to put in as much effort as other children, but unfortunately they succumb to illness / some unfortunate accident and their potential short lived (Lets say at the age 11, somewhat before they could make any significant impact anywhere). I think it would be unfair to say they weren’t gifted, though I guess like in the “Can babies be cruel / evil” debate, you’d argue it’s too soon to give them the title “gifted”. While yes I imagine the compliment and term may be oversaturated at this point, but to me I’d say a child surpassing the average in their child lives with little or less effort than other children is “gifted” in that area. To what degree or margin is debatable, but I think as long as they’re outperforming their class and it appears to come naturally / with more ease than the others, I think that should qualify as gifted. Prodigious ability would be the next level above being gifted to me (like if gifted is scoring an 85/100 then prodigious is scoring 99/100) + dedication and perseverance is the external factor that dictates how far a child goes in their future. Chalking down someone as being gifted for making the most of their childhood abilities feels like a downplay on how much hard work and dedication it requires to do so, whether skilled / gifted / talented or not.
@@saosaqii5807You are mixing IQ and personality. IQ is basically raw computing power. It is not directly related to things like determination, grit and perseverance. Those are factors of personality traits. The underachiever stereotype is a little odd because there are absolutely brilliant people who are totally content just living a modest and "boring" life. And there are those that did aspire for "success" but may have been held back by any number of socioeconomic factors. Small children aren't exactly known for their capacity to lie and manipulate effectively. It's pretty easy to tell by 8 or 9 which kids are significantly sharper than the others.
This just stands to show how bad the world we are living in is. The more awareness someone has of their surroundings, the more likely they are to realise how bad it is and becoming depressed
It’s because the smartest people can’t help but to look at things in ways that most people are even capable of doing. They understand every single nook and cranny of what’s around us, and that can be very haunting at times. Ignorance truly is bliss.
That last bit is intresting to hear. Ive never announced it, but b/c IQ is measured by so many factors but I've always personally considered roughly half contributed to focus, awareness & just being able to soak in & learn stuff. I normally attribute "dumbness" to lack of awareness

Ignorance truly is bliss. Ignorance of the world and our own shortcomings and risks gives such freedom and confidence. Unfounded, of course, but it works.
Thats completley different, being depressed from trauma would indicate you're depressed...not because of your intelligence and self awareness. But isntead the Trauma caused it, sorry bub. Imagine you had no trauma, yet still ended up becoming depressed, slowly, over time, as you grew more aware and had a great depth of idea about yourself and life. There is no trauma. It just happens. If you're intelligent that is
Actually if you know you're stupid according to your preconceived beliefs that society has put upon you , then you're not stupid but you believe you are and depression is a cause inherently of human life conditions in modern society . And the way to completely get yourself undone from the programming that has been in your years through your life is to start meditating and research about the truth which can be found anywhere you want but mostly it will be about a new beginning on a spiritual journey. You can believe it or not but you can reach a state of mind when you no longer have any thoughts
I have always been told how self aware I am. I definitely can identify the issue. And I am very aware that no matter how much research and forethought I put into a situation or issue about myself I will always be subject to my own internal bias. So having external perspective (from professionals) helps me be more objective instead of subjective about my issues. I can definitely think logically and problem solve. The issue is that logic doesn't work with emotions. And that is where I am very regularly stumped on what to do.
Emotions is to express when you are with people when you going to be honest in private , and logical , is when you are, use use the skill of thinking solving problems .
Agree with the video, but citing a Mensa study and claiming it’s representative of the top 2% I think is something that needs to be made clear to be honest. But love the channel, really
Small addition: There are neurocognitive disorders such as autism that have positive correlations with high IQ. That is to say, an autistic person is statistically more likely to have high IQ than an allistic person, and a high IQ person is more likely to have autism than an average IQ person. I use autism bc I am an autistic two-percenter my own self, but other disorders could apply. So with that in mind, those conditions are also known to cause difficulties fitting in, meeting expectations, having a firm sense of identity, etc and ALSO have higher rates of depression compared to the general population due to their symptoms. Although there's a lot of reasons why a high IQ allistic person would end up depressed too sadly.
I am depressed most of my life because I can see mistakes and outcomes before they happen. Also finding and correcting errors of other people every single day is killing me.
I know how to do that . If you are going to be really smart and not depressed , you have to fun hobbies in between , do what you did when you a child . If you are an adult you have to become like a child again .
I don't have a necessarily high IQ, but my awareness is through the roof and it sucks. I see patterns in social situations, work situations, and in people and I can predict with great certainty how things will pan out over time. I've been trying to stop that cuz its truly depressing seeing someone close slowly pull away and not knowing how to keep them from leaving. Or being able to layout a chain of events at a job and not knowing exactly how to inform others that their jobs are at risk.
Good observational skill of Awareness . Use creativity to to do fun things . To bring smiles to children or grandparents too. So that you can fouc on hobbies ,. Just keep doing what your doing . That is how brain is already if any changes of health to happened because d you would feel lonely , just know you are not alone . Put you trust in god , figured how you can contribute to make change for those people who can see the realty . With boundaries and respect .
We are smart, but we are not gods. There are so many reasons why each of us can succeed. We are not aware of those reasons. My tactic is to do my best and try again and again. This way I will utilize my opportunities and capabilities without needing to figure things out BEFOREHAND. Don't try to think through everything till the very end. Choose exploration and trial and error
You have to there Many types of smart smart people , there are many types of ignorant people andmay types of personality , If you are nerdy perceive other dumbs , it doesn’t mean someone is dumb , they are intellingent too , just they are a different level layers than you . Wether they are smarter than you or less smart . Everybody has different captivity witching time . Dumb people are dumb, ignorant people are ignorant, traditional people raised different are different . . Just depends if life circumstances . . Just because someone is seemed as dumb it doesn’t mean they are dumb . It can sometimes la falses perception. the point if the smart you get but start dislike people the more you will see many people dumb. Be wise and humble . Be more intelligent and be balanced life of what is your preference .
Not to say I’m in the top 2%, but the way I deal with this is with a little bit of giving in to that never ending craving to know what’s going on, and then having a very firm cut off when I have enough information, I accept that knowing more will bring absolutely no value. My reasoning is as follows: If you’re constantly seeking knowledge and analyzing, problem solving and figuring things out, you can’t just deny this part of yourself and force yourself not to think. So it’s okay to do that stuff a little bit. But then, understanding and truly accepting that there is a limit, and then setting that limit makes it so that you can curb this anxiety that comes from needing to know. And of course, accepting that even with huge amounts of information, knowledge, and analysis, you could still have reached an incorrect conclusion. Or even more common, that maybe you’re not even thinking about the right thing, so it’s best not to take your ideas too seriously, 100% of the time. You can never change how you think, but you can always find your own way to take control. That’s what I believe, and what I remind myself of when it’s hard to believe.
What comes after that, at least for me, is acceptance. Almost fatalism. The very opposite of denial when it comes to the future of earth and our societies. But that's how things are so no matter how much you think about them, it's not gonna change much. Sometimes i would love to stop constantly thinking. And more time alone.
That doesn’t have to a be reality . It just knowledge what happens the majority. It depends. It has to do with genetic or enviormental factor . the wrong stimulation from other can , cause loose hope wrong stimulation .
One of the biggest reasons why smarter people get depressed is because they can see every situation that can possibly happen and then realize that nothing matters in the grand scheme of things

Depression makes people see the world more in black and white (extremes). For example thinking,”I’m always a burden to other people.”
The problem with inteligience is that you can recognize how much the people around you are sheep as you're walking with them, but you're helpless to move out of the herd lest you be trampled, so youre forced to follow the herd as another sheep while being one of the few that can recognize the crocodiles infested in the river your flock is crossing. Good observation I have sort of perception about too . genetic or enviormnaatel had to people who have depression . May y are depressed and many aren’t .
eh that's kind of common knowledge, I have a very smart friend and it seems like an inability to not constantly think about potential problems in a personal and impersonal manner. Where as the less intelligent people I know have an ability to just focus on being in the moment and enjoying themselves. It is a lot more fun to be around than most smart people are tbh.
I've never taken an IQ test, but as a youth I consistently scored in the top 98th, 99th percentile on standardized tests, class rank, etc. without being a particularly driven student. I've been horribly depressed on and off since I was 13. Everything he said is accurate to my experience. It's hard not to be depressed when you soberly look at the state of things in your life and the world around you, especially if you had a happy childhood where it seemed like things were going well for those you loved. They weren't, but you just didn't know how the world worked yet. Life is a little more like a Dostoevsky novel than a Norman Rockwell painting. It's tough to be constantly aware of avoidable suffering and stay happy and strong.
When you can see how screwed up everything is easily and can also see the solutions to it and ALSO see how no one is doing the thing to solve the problems or even adding to them, trust me, its depressing.
The societal label of the word being depressed keeps being push and often times being confused with the emotion of the sadness of reality instead, what words one thinks believes matters in one's beliefs for behavior correlates
"I, the Teacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem. And I set my mind to seek and explore by wisdom all that is done under heaven. What a heavy burden God has laid upon the sons of men to occupy them! I have seen all the things that are done under the sun, and have found them all to be futile, a pursuit of the wind. What is crooked cannot be straightened, and what is lacking cannot be counted. I said to myself, “Behold, I have grown and increased in wisdom beyond all those before me who were over Jerusalem, and my mind has observed a wealth of wisdom and knowledge.” So I set my mind to know wisdom and madness and folly; I learned that this, too, is a pursuit of the wind. For with much wisdom comes much sorrow, and as knowledge grows, grief increases." ~Solomon, Book of Ecclesiastes
When you are aware and/or smarter you are sadly aware of how screwed the world is by the not so aware or smart being controlled by the evil ones. Trying to help is futile and even more alienating than normal. And many times you are portrayed as the villain. This is massively frustrating. Seeing the beginning, middle and end of an interaction and it going exactly how you knew it would is also not validating, to me it leads to thoughts of existentialism.
Imagine looking someone walk to his death in his life yet u couldn't do anything bcs he had to do it the hard way, worse part is its the same for u, like watching ur life walk in the path on pain yet almost only thing u can do is watch, bcs u can only change urself, not the ppl near u, and this is a path u walk alone, nobody share this emotion with u so ur more likely to be hurted again by the people beside u
The main problem is this; “It’s about the journey and not the destination” “The target is always moving ahead”(evolution) “Heaven is hell”->”carful what you wish for” “Everything is perfect as is” Just think about all those lol
Basically we aren't built to take on this type of crap, we are capable but not without the right steps proper rest proper food proper self talk proper etc a bunch of shit when ur smart u have alot of insight and perspectives and its alot of strain on your brain and because your smart u know u should be upset but its too much because today's society overloads us with the amount of crap going on or possible happening in your life so smart people balance 8+ things + their pushing their limits on the 9th cause u gotta go up not down so compared to normal people that balance 4 + (whatever u get the point ) its easier in ways

Correct.

Was just wondering this last night. I don’t know if iq is necessarily the best measurement but a correlation between those with more awareness and insight and those with depression makes a lot of sense.
Ya, and "ego death" or "awakening" in some spiritual methods/stuff is associated with symptoms of depression.
If youre not depressed in this world youre not paying attention
That's why I stop thinking when I realise something bad is happening to me. If I can't act on it, I can at least not make it worse by fully realizing the extension of the damage all at once. I had some panic attacks once, and I don't want to go through them ever again.
I dont understand what any of this means but im happy to hear it.
This is also a very powerful cope. Explains why you're depressed and makes you feel smart at the same time. Beware of self-deception.
@@saosaqii5807
The notion that if gifted people peaked in their childhood that means they, “weren’t actually gifted” doesn’t follow.
What qualifies as gifted / talented, like you said, can be subjective from person to person but I think in your case, you value the perseverance and dedication as integral parts of being gifted which to me I’d say shouldn’t always be a part of it (or at least having done so through childhood / school should still count)
My issue being, what about an instance where a child is “gifted”, doing extremely well with their studies or a chosen passion and seemingly not having to put in as much effort as other children, but unfortunately they succumb to illness / some unfortunate accident and their potential short lived (Lets say at the age 11, somewhat before they could make any significant impact anywhere).

Small addition:
There are neurocognitive disorders such as autism that have positive correlations with high IQ. That is to say, an autistic person is statistically more likely to have high IQ than an allistic person, and a high IQ person is more likely to have autism than an average IQ person. I use autism bc I am an autistic two-percenter my own self, but other disorders could apply.

I know how to do that . If you are going to be really smart and not depressed , you have to fun hobbies in between , do what you did when you a child . If you are an adult you have to become like a child again .
The depressing part is knowing you have to watch other people 'learn the hard way'.

Not to say I’m in the top 2%, but the way I deal with this is with a little bit of giving in to that never ending craving to know what’s going on, and then having a very firm cut off when I have enough information, I accept that knowing more will bring absolutely no value.
My reasoning is as follows:
If you’re constantly seeking knowledge and analyzing, problem solving and figuring things out, you can’t just deny this part of yourself and force yourself not to think.

For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief.
Ecclesiates 1:18
Imagine looking someone walk to his death in his life yet u couldn't do anything bcs he had to do it the hard way, worse part is its the same for u, like watching ur life walk in the path on pain yet almost only thing u can do is watch, bcs u can only change urself, not the ppl near u, and this is a path u walk alone, nobody share this emotion with u so ur more likely to be hurted again by the people beside u
The main problem is this;
“It’s about the journey and not the destination”
“The target is always moving ahead”(evolution)
“Heaven is hell”->”carful what you wish for”
“Everything is perfect as is”
Just think about all those lol
I've been happier after meditation. Meditation made me dumb ❤
Smart people realise how things could and should be not just how they are.
I can confirm this is relatable
You're telling me 9/10 people aren't depressed?
