I never comment, but I just wanted to say I appreciate your videos and all the time you put into them. You got yourself another subscriber!
focovision Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy them!

I'm amazed that since November, when you were excited about having 10,000 subscribers- it's only January and you are at nearly 16,000. Keep up the good work! This was a great video and helpful for anyone shopping around for lenses for an a6000...or Sony emounts for that matter. You've got a nice control on the editing and computer work so moving around and zooming in made perfect sense and was easy to follow your points. Thanks again!
4 years later: 172k... this man does a great JOB!
This has to be the best channel for Sony e Mount related lenses!
Great vid. I've been looking at both of these lenses, so nice to see the comparison. Would be interesting to see you compare the 16-70 Zeiss as well. Lots of online discussion of that lens vs the 18-105.
MAN!!! you're the best. I've just have this question a minute ago and find a video that you made more than a year ago.
Same here, I had to choose between A6400 and A6500 mainly OSS over IBIS, he answered that and now this.
Great comparison as always! You should definitely try to make a comparison between 16-50 kit lens and 16-70 zeiss lens! It's absurd that no one have ever tested these lenses in the way you do your review! That would be awesome. 💪🏻
Great video, really helped a lot. Can you do a video comparison of 16-70 f4 vs 18-105, and also 18-105 vs 15-200. Thanks and keep up the great work!
I got this lens best off your earlier videos. I love it, I also got the Rokinon 12mm which I love to, but having a manual lens really makes you appreciate the OIS and the best autofocus system around.
so grateful for this because im trying to figure out what lens I really need for portraits but also everything else I want/need
Would you consider doing an intro/overview of using the 35? I've absolutely LOVED your videos with it and actually purchased it thanks to you! However, I am new to interchangeable lenses and it would be very helpful to have an overview to get started. I trust and love your work. I hope you will consider!
Thanks a ton for this awesome comparison. Wished it was there a week ago when I was deciding between these two as a newbie. Glad that I went with 18-105 for more flexibility like you mentioned. Time to play with a6300 :D
You will rise very high.
Just try to be humble , honest, and
Hard working.
Wish you all the best
Thanks for these videos. They're very helpful!
Good comparison, like your vids...can you please review the 18-2000 silver lens?
your videos are great sources for newbie like me who's completely clueless about which lens to choose 😅 great work!
This is an amazing video thank you so much i actually got the 18-105 & i am looking for a prime thanks for showing me side by side the power of prime lens. This video made me sub :)
Amwfilms
I have the 18-105mm and the 50mm 1.8. The 50 mm is fast and sharp.. It takes pics in an instant.
Only thing. You have to zoom with your feet. I've grown accustomed to the convenience of the zoom.
If I had a choice I'd prob roll with the 35mm over the 50mm.
All depending on what you will be using for.
Amwfilms I got both and both are great for different things. the zoom is more versatile and I tend to use the 35 prime at night. but this review has encouraged me to use the price.e more during the day as well!
DaveSincere thanks Dave and yeah I am feeling the same way the 35mm equals 50mm after the crop so it's awesome. thought of getting the 24mm but I like the extra mm for the close up look. and I will mostly use this for picture portraits and street photography. I got the 18-105 for all around lens and mostly for video
smoothmoose yeah I feel the same. I really want to shot at night as well as have a wide aperture for during the day still learning about the camera
Amwfilms Not getting the 50mm is no-brainer IMO. Just feel too niche and works mainly for portraits. Not wide enough for other stuff, and it doesn't zoom well anyway. If you need to zoom with your feet with the 35mm you'll likely need to with the 50mm also. However, 35 vs 30 vs 24mm. I think that debate is more close on which range is most versatile. 35mm no way you are doing a selfie and even can be restricting for street photography. I actually kinda of wish Sony made a 28/30mm. Even with my 18-105, I know i shoot more often wider than 35, than zoomed. But I guess it depends on what you like to shoot and your style.
Yet another great video! Looking forward to see you do reviews on Sony's 16mm and 20mm wide angle primes!
Yes, I want to look at the 20mm. Most say the 16mm is pretty bad.
TechnologyMafia 16 mm is garbage tho, regret for bought those lens
I just love your content keep up good work!
This is a very good practical review. I have the 18-105 F/4 and waiting for the 35mm F1.8. Just switched from Nikon for portability, being mirrorless and extra features like better autofocus and video system.
i could watch your videos for hours... Thanks for the tests!
interesting, thanks for the comparison. I have the 35mm, going to be adding the 18-105 soon!
Thanks for your great comparison! I've been looking for a new lens to replace my kit lens. Thumbs up!
love your videos. I have the Sony a6000 and just got the 35mm. looking at getting a zoom lens also, keep up the good work my friend!
Awesome, thank you for the compliment! Enjoy your A6000 and the 35mm!
You bloody legend, keep up the good work!
Great video, one question though. Wouldn't the 35mm always be sharper when stopped down to match f/4 aperture of the 18-105? From my experience fast lens are arent as sharp wide open.
Thanks for doing the review. Your videos and reviews are very, very inform and helpful.
I have both lenses and soooooo glad that you did this video. Awesome job and keep it up.
How about doing a review video of a Rokinon/Samyang 12mm F2 lesnse. :)
I'm thinking of buying that lense instead of the 16mm Sony. Your thoughts?
Great job. I love how you compare lenses. I am noob in photography and have an A6000. I subscribed a while ago. Keep up the good work.
Do you think I could compensate for the aperture by using a camera with in-body stabilization and longer shutter speed?
Great video, i know you are matching specs across the board, but I was wondering how much on the ISO you feel you will need to "bump up" on the 18-105 to match the Prime Lens specs?
great video comparison thank you
I agree, the 35mm is an absolute gem of a lens! Great review.
I was looking for a similar strange comparison between the 18-105mm f/4 and the Sigma 30mm F1.4 Contemporary DC DN. The Sigma is affordable and the limitations of f/4 on the 18-105mm for low light and indoor keep me from using my A6300. Although this was a Sony to Sony comparison, it was enough to show me there's a big difference in the extra stops. Thanks (already subbed).
Great video, great comparison. I’ve had my eye on the 18-105mm for sony for awhile, mostly because it’s versatile and inexpensive
Thanks for these videos.. I think the 18-105 is great for video due to a "softer" look.. Great for a cinematic feeling in my opinion. the 35mm is defiantly sharper and great for photo's.
great video I swear , thanks bunch for this!
This was great! I have the 35mm f1.8 and been thinking of getting the 18-105 as an all round lens
I got the 18-105 and it a great all around lens. I even use it on my A7R2 because of the weight.
Have the Sony 18/105. Great results. No difference to 100% vs. 99%.
Hi, thank you very much for all your reviews. I have a question if there is a sound justification to afford 35mm already having 18-105 cause I assume that I could achieve better shots during my city-break trips thanks to prime lens.
Now you will need to compare your Sony 35mm f1.8 vs Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary for Sony E-mount lens!
Ctrèsbeau Claude yes please!
for video : SEL 35mm, for photo: sigma 30mm.
I'll take oss any day
awesome videos, very helpful, however im curious about those pictures, you shoot in RAW or FINE?
This is really helpful, I got both of these lenses for my fs5 but can u please suggest some other E Mount zoom lens with maximum f stop of f2.8? I am looking for E mount solution to 70-200 etc
Great review, just got the 18-105, will get the 35mm next.
Another great video!! I was waiting really for pics of the 18-105 in the far range to appreciate the bokeh quality. Btw, congratulations for how well you present the contens: honest, clear and summarising at the end. Good job!
In the meanwhile I got also the 35mmf1.8, which after 5 shots became my favorite lense. However, it is has extreme noisy aperture blades.
When stopping from f6.3 to f22, you can clearly hear the grinding. As a result, the autofocus over f6.3 gets very loud too.
Does it happen also with your lense?
Thanks!
Do you encounter these noise issues when you're shooting video on the 35 prime? It's the one thing holding me back from purchasing it -- I'd like to use it as a mixed-used photo/video lens, but I'm concerning the operation of its motors is going to come into the audio of the video I'll be shooting.
Suggestion. Compare the 18-105 zoom to the 18-200 and/or 55-210 zoom. For general all-round zoom this is the dilemma that many face including myself. I did end up getting the 18-105 for variety of reasons, but many will wonder if they will miss the extra reach of the other 2 zooms. More importantly, I realized the Clear Image Zoom feature on the Alphas can make up the difference in reach with no image degradation. It would be interesting to actually compare the 105 @2x Clear Image zoom vs. the native 200 or 210 in IQ. My bet is the 18-105 still wins!
exactly my dilemma for days and months now:))) still couldn't figure out what to buy.
nice review!! love your videos!!
i want a request.. 10-18 f4 i my wishlist lens...
Appreciated.. i was to consider 18-105 to replace zoomkit ( i havent bought the kit yet) but I'll stick with just zoomkit
As always... thank you. I have my eye on the 18-105 as I want a decent zoom lens. A shame there are no f2.8 zoom lenses for the a6500.
LEA4 adapter and a mount ;) (lenses for the a77 fo example)
We got 3 F2,8 lens 3 years later!:D
Could you do a comparison between the 18-105f4 and the 18-200?
After your review I bought the 18 to 105 lens and a6500.This will be my only lens also my first lens for videos. I have switched to interchangeable lens system recently. I own a RX10 MK3.
Hey Arthur, thanks for this video
reference : 07:48
Can you compare 105mm f4 vs 85mm 1.4? (looking for portrait photography)
I am thinking of getting 16mm or 85mm f1.4 (Now i have 30mm f1.4 and 18105)
If you can make a comparison, of the above it would be really helpful.
Great video! Thank you.
very helpful information, thank you! subscribed :)
You say the comparison doesn't make sense, but as a beginner, I appreciate this comparison. It's nice to see a bit of the capabilities between a prime and zoom lens. I really found the 35 mm vs 99 mm image comparison ( 7:27 ) to be very interesting as I am still trying to wrap my head around how the focal length affects the image.
I've been thinking of getting a 10-18mm lens from Sony , It would be nice if you made a review on it. I like seeing your reviews on lenses since it does help me decide wether I want to buy it or not. And so far I've gotten 18-105 & 35mm from Sony but I'm also interested in seeing your thoughts on the 10-18mm
Thank you for this comparison
Thank you for your video. Its really help!
There has been an update on the lens firmware did it have any improvement on the quality?
My 18-105mm is soft in comparison to my f/1.8. Of course I expected this to a small degree, but not to the extent exhibited. I might try the 16-70 Zeiess lens.
Thank you~ very helpful video!
im switching from panasonic to sony. Im getting the sony a6500 and im assuming the 18-105 for my all around broll camera. Any suggestions on 2 cheaper primes? one for wider vlogging (20-30mm maybe?) and one for interviews (50-85mm?) Any suggestions with the 3 best lenses i am looking for at a cheaper price but with good autofocus
This is a really great comparison. It's a good demonstration of what you give up going with a versatile zoom lens versus a prime. It's not easy to realize the advantages of a prime lens without experiencing them.
If you were picking a single lens to go around on a trip with, shooting photo and video, would you take the 35 prime or the 18-105 zoom?
@@RageCage1701 I'm annoyed no one answered you. I'm trynna figure out the same thing
I love travelling but I hate carry many lens should I buy 35mm or 18-105 mm? mostly I use for video and portrait
Really like your lens reviews with the a6000. Will you review the zeiss lenses, sel24f18 and sel1670, and compare them to sel35f18 and sel18105g?
Great video! Can we use the 18-105 with a sony A7 II?
Why do you prefer the Sony 35mm 1.8 over the 30mm 1.4 Sigma.
new subscriber here....I've always watched your reviews but I didn't know I wasn't subscribed yet. Here you go! Thanks for the reviews..keep them coming....I'm a new a6000 user. Can you do a Rokinon/Samyang 12mm lens review? (I will be doing interior shoots soon and need to know how these things will do.)
Paolo A +1. I would love to see that too. 😊
I would love to see that too!!! Samyang 12mm f2.0
I use the sony f1.8 50mm for low light but thinking of getting the 18-105 for the zoom range. But when i see these results you sacrefice quite a lot in qaulity for it
Another nice video... I would like you to compare sel35f18 with sel28f20. Then we will know which one is better prime.
One thing to notice is 35mm 1.8 has color fringing even after stopping down...where as 18-105 has a green haze in the corners. I have both and 18 105 slacks indoors. My photos suddenly look like they were taken from a smartphone. F4 = high iso indoors. Looking for the Zeiss primes. 24 or 55?
Hi, regards from Argentina. I've been watching your videos quite a lot lately. Thanks for such a good informative videos. I've already a Sony a6000 body, plus the 35mm 1.8 prime lens. I've been happy about it, but there were moments I couldn't reach places without a zoom lens. So, what should I buy? 10-105, 16-50 kit lens other options? I'm struggling a bit with this. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Nice...i just purchase 18-105 last week and thinking to get a sharper low light lense...can you compare this 35mm against canon 50mm f1.8 using adapter? Because the canon 50mm is essentially cheaper...
I suggest you to take a look at SEL1670Z. It would be interesting if you can compare it with SEL18105G.
The battle of these two zoom lenses have always been come around for Sony APSC users
I own SEL1670Z and the color is really amazing.
Thanks. I would say the reach of the tele does not outweigh the clarity of the prime. I am glad I did not get this tele. I do have the 16-70 f4 zeiss, which is ok, especially after your eval to the kit lens, wish the Zeiss was much better than kit.
Great comparisons. Decided on getting the 35mm now. Could you also do a video on the 10-18mm?
Yes, I'm searching for a wide angle lens, so I should have a 10-18 review in a few weeks.
Very good comparison. Interesting to compare stabilization of these lens...
No kidding... my last decision making searches (camera, lens, gimbal) , your videos show up in google... You really understand the beginners :)
If u choice which one you pick between sigma 30mm 1.4 or sony 35mm 1.8 ?
This video puts the kabash on the Sony 18-105 mm G lens. Zoom lenses are all about convenience at the serious expense of every other performance parameters. Thanks for this video.
Hi Arthur, great reviews. Will the Sony 35mm 1.8 work on my A5100 camera? Thank.you
I was thinking about getting the 35 for wider shoots would it be great for that???
I wish you could have included how the 6000 performs with both lenses using the auto settings. Thanks again.
Hey! So I just got myself an A7iii! What would you recommend getting out of these two lens!? I already have the kir len (28-75mm).
Thank You for this nice comparison. But one question for You: Why don't You speak about the colour difference? I own the 18-105 and use it with the a6500. And i really don't like the bluish colour. In Your comparison, it's very good visible, the 35mm lens brings much more red in the picture or rather the 18-105 is filtering it.
Can'rt make my mind about which one to purchase: 35 f 1.8 or 24 f 1.8 ? I mainly shoot videos on a6500 and hate the kit lens
Can you compare the 18 - 105 to Tamron 28 75? I am stuck in between the two.
Another great video! I like all the different comparison shots (portrait, landscape, etc.) and zooming to show the difference.
I will say I do love my 35mm 1.8 because of the sharpness, low light ability as well as the small size and weight. I know the zoom is more versatile for a travel lens but still prefer my primes a bit more since I know I am getting lower ISO and usually a sharper image. Keep up the great work.
Do you ever feel limited with the 35mm as a travel lens? Are there times you can think of where your photography / videography suffered because you were shooting on the 35 prime rather than something like an 18-105?
Which zoom lens do you recommend for taking videos with sony a7sII
If you can choose only one which would that be?
Hi, what microphone did you use while you were filming the video?
I dont get it, shouldnt the right one's ISO higher than 100? Was it a mistake or how is it it's just as bright as the left one?
Your videos are amazing! I bought the a6000 just because your videos are so informational. Do you have a video on how to set up your a6000 camera? I can't seem to be able to get out of auto mode! :D
Good video idea. My suggestion: stick it into A mode (aperture) and try spinning the dial on the top with your right thumb.
I think this is a fair review. I always wanted to know the differences between kit lens vs low light primes
What is your overall takeaway from the review?
Hello great stuff , is it possible to get two photos side by side, the same image with 1.8 and f4 but adjusting the ISO on 18 to 105 to get the brightness the same
i bought the prime lens as u recommended, but got 1 problem with the angle..i have to walk back far far away to have a full frame...and thats annoyed me...im looking for an affordable lens that can do wide range...any recommendations? oh i have a favor for ur video..can u compare the lens side by side with the same spot like u did on the 35mm vs 50mm thanks love you video
Excuse me
May i ask your opinion?
So, i just bought sony a6000 (body only) and want to choose lens for the needs of portrait, traveling and video.
Whether sony lens E 35mm f / 1.8 OSS match with that?
And also i have 10-18mm canon lens that i want to pair with sony camera, what brand adapter that could possibly match and quickly respond to autofocus
and whether the result is good ?
I hope ur answer could help me
Thank you so much
What is the lense you are shooting yourself talking? Looks great... I have a dilema between Sony and Lumix cameras. I have limitd budget nd want to shoot amateur films. Lumix G80 has in body stabilization but this is a way better image quality
Love your channel and your great reviews man! I have a 35mm 1.8 and I absolutely love it. Do you find yourself shooting more often with the prime or zoom for everyday use?
Anil Chitrapu Awesome, thank you! In the last 6 months I've been using the 35mm about 85% of the time. When I used Canon cameras I remember always using a zoom lens, but I've definitely started using primes a lot more frequently with the A6000.
Anil Chitrapu prime lenses on the a6300 are nice especially with clear image zoom allowing me to zoom in 2x its almost like having 2 lenses in one except u dont gain the lens compression by zooming with clear image but its still helpful if u are out and about with just a prime and need some extra reach
Str8poisin tv how do use the clear image zoom with the prime? I only use it with zoom lens.
TechnologyMafia I have both lens as well. this comparison has encouraged me to us the 35 prime more during the day and not just for low light. that said I have noticed the 18-105 has much better stabilization compared to the 35, especially for video. have you noticed a difference as well?
Thanks fer all the hard work !!
But -- would you say that 1.) You are not going to see a difference in 16x20 or smaller prints at a reasonable viewing distance, and 2.) You would see no difference in 4K video.
Just trying to get a feel for what all this sharpness really means in practice. I am thinking both lenses look the same when you look at a result. Yes ? No ?
Thanks, yet again for the Video. Would you still recommend Sony 35mm f1.8 against Sigma 30mm f1.4 dc dn Contemporary.
nihalhbk Yes, I would. The sigma is sharper, but the Sony focus is a bit more accurate and the OSS makes a difference.
Would you be willing to compare the Sony 35mm 1.8 with the Zeiss 35mm 2.8? Would be very interesting to see the results.
Please compare 18-105 vs 55-210
Thanks for this video! This is a good comparison for someone with a tight budget.
Could you rank you top 5 which lens you prefer most? Thanks man.
Lets Go Ed That's a good idea! I'll plan on doing that after I try out a few more lenses. Next goal is to find a good wide angle :)
