Hello my good sir, thank you so much for this video, I literally watched it like 20 times just before I tackled the job. Here I am smiling from my truck that's cranking. Thanks again for posting this video! Cheers
Thanks! Very informative. You had the bolt-head size and the socket extension setup that you used. Way better than another one I just watched. No wonder it took that guy three hours.
Watched your video before I changed the starter motor on my '95 pathfinder V6, Thanks for the tips! I didn't remove the passenger side tire though and still was able to change the starter motor. Probably would have been a little easier, but I jacked up the Pathfinder and put Axle Stands under which gave me the room to wiggle underneath and get at everything.
I removed two bolts from the idler arm and loosened the third. That allowed me to lower the steering center link. My truck is an Auto Transmission, so I had to move the cooling lines as well. That allowed me to slide the starter out under the motor mount and out the front of the engine(the same route as the starter cables). The new one went back in the same way. I never disturbed the oil filter. It's tight, but doable. This was on my 94 SE 4x4 AT. On my 86, I didn't have to move steering, because it's a 5 speed and just had more room. Good luck!
I appreciate the video. It was helpful. Two things that will make this job much more difficult. Having the factory heat shield on the starter and an automatic transmission. The transmission cooler lines follow the same path the starter needs to follow to come out and with the heat shield attached to the starter there isn't a half a mm of room to spare. It is a struggle to remove and replace but you can still get it done using the method described in the video. I recommend completely removing the bracket that the wires were attached to with the 10mm bolt and jacking the engine up a little to give just a fraction more clearance. If you can unbolt the passenger motor mount, even better. Otherwise you had better be prepared to pull and maybe even bend the trans cooler lines a bit. Thanks for the upload!
Great video. FYI 90% of the time it’s not the starter it self but the solenoid that fails because of the contacts inside wearing. But “we” just change the starter completely. So you didn’t have to disassemble the starter.
Great video!!! I just recently picked up an 87 pathfinder. And literally it went out the day after I bought it. And I'm pretty sure they never replaced it. But really good video👍👍👍
Thank you 👍🏼 For the video dude Yours it's more easy ..the other who made a video like this...it's more difficult . yours it's better... I just finished with my 94 Pathfinder standard shift
I've got a 1991 Pathfinder with a manual transmission and 4 wheel drive. The starter sounded like it was struggling a bit. At first I thought it was the battery, but the voltage is 12.4 volts. A little low, but OK. Now, I'm thinking it's the starter. It's pretty old, I'm thinking. Maybe it needs a good cleaning like you did. I might try and find one at the wrecking yard. The only thing I'm not sure of is if the automatic transmission starter and the manual transmission starter are the same or are they different?

Thanks to this video my friend and I changed the starter to my 95 Pathfinder under 2 hours
Would’ve been an hour but we were busy smoking weed lol
Much appreciated, man. Hard to find videos showing how to fix older Pathfinders, this is a goldmine for my upcoming repairs checklist.
Thanks. Wish I still owned it

I just had to remove 2 10mm bolts that secure the transmission lines, then I could bend them enough to wiggle the starter out

Local auto parts should be able to answer
nice music too Bro 👍
+big kev Thank you for watching
Like the back round music 🤣
I heard a rooster crowing in the background
very informative , great video
The 94 model has a hellish to remove brass wire cover, you basically cannot take it off without destroying the wire
Is it the same on a 2001 nissan pathfinder?
I don't think so
Надо инженерам nissan сломать руки за такое расположение стартера.
the 4wd version was a Bitch to get out And replaced due to the short wires.. original equipment
👍
Is it a job I can do w out a lift?

Why do people out background music in instructional videos?
