    Hello! We, the Portuguese, invented the ATM system. don't use the euronet machines, they always charge you extra, besides that conversion scam. Use those that say "Multibanco", which are the original ones, not tourist traps.
    Those grocery shops you show, with the flashy signs, run by Paquistanese immigrants, are not genuine in any way. The real Portuguese grocery stores are usually run by Portuguese people and you'll notice that fresh produce are mostly better quality. Small supermarkets are also a good option, and you have plenty of them, even at Baixa. Then you have the actual Mercados, where you get the freshest produce, but those usually only open in the mornings, or, if they're open in the afternoon, there's not much left. You usually have one per neighbourhood, except for the touristy neighbourhoods. I hope this helps.

    Good information. One other tip that I tell friends is to only use ATMs at a bank when the bank is open. That way if your card gets eaten, you can just walk into the bank and talk to someone.

    Transportation: A 24 hour ticket is 6,45 € and it includes the Metro, bus , Tram. A lot cheaper and practical than Uber. Public transport has both environmental and health advantages . Walk and discover the beautiful city .
    Mercados are more expensive and do not have everything .

    Another thing is, while it's true that the metro as a cost of 1.5 with a prepaid card, you also have the monthly pass which costs 40 euros and you can use ALL citys transportations as much as you like for a whole month. It's probably one of the best things ever xD

    Interesting that you found the elevator on the West side of the Baxia (you can also use the ones in a chain store to do the same thing), but there is also one on the East side, which takes you halfway up the hill to the Castle. Cross the road and walk past the supermarket (pingo doce) and there is another elevator that takes you 90% of the way up. With a great bar on the way. Plus many of the trams are there to get up the steepest of the hills. If in doubt, ask a local.

    Hi, your travel trips very straight and to the point, it addresses the most immediate and common questions. In relation the ATMs withdrawal, how much are they charging for a withdrawal of $200 euros? How much you recommend to get from an ATM at the airport?

    • @TravelsInSpace

      Each ATM is different so I can't say how much they charge, we have seen ATM fees from 3 to 6 euros.

    Very useful information. I am going this October. Really appreciate if someone can answer couple questions. TIA
    Do you have to tip the server in Lisbon? Is it easy to get change for the public restrooms? Last time when I went to Paris, I couldn’t use the public restroom because I only have bills and no coins

    Are you sponsered by Uber? Other than that, great tips. From a local.

      No sponsorship, but it is the app that we are most familiar with coming from the US and Canada. I know bolt and some others operate, and that just using a cab can also be cheaper but: already having an Uber account, being able to see the route, and the price beforehand has been super useful for us.
      Is there a different one we should check out the next time we are there?

      @@TravelsInSpace Yes. There are apps for local cabs, too.

    For UBER as we'll be there in 3 weeks, do you think there are UBER XL for 5 people?

    • @TravelsInSpace
      @TravelsInSpace  2 роки тому +1

      We have giant pieces of checked luggage (we travel full time so everything we own is in them) so we order Uber XLs when we go to/from airports - Lisbon had plenty of them and they are either big SUVs or vans, either should fit 5 fine. One thing to note is that an XL will be around double the price, but it is still pretty cheap.

      @@TravelsInSpace Thanks for info. I would think so esp. we're from NY and now in Zurich, CH...Here we will take the train because even 15min. ride is 50chf...We were there 20yrs ago and now going back for our 20th wedding anniv. (Lisbon & Lagos) + daughter's birthday on National Day (25 of April) :-) Coincidence :_P Will shops be closed or else on April 25th?

      That sounds amazing! We haven't been for April 25th but I have been told most businesses stay open. Also, if you are in Lagos, I recommend checking out Taberna da Maré in Portimao (great seafood dinner) and Cat Park in Albufeira (small boardwalk that has many friendly local cats).

      @@TravelsInSpace Surely, thx for the good tips for Portimao (we'll have a rental car driving from Avenida Palace Hotel or honeymoon hotel I highly recommended to Lagos) - It's cheaper to have a car for 6 days then having private transfer from Lisbon to Lagos :-D We have an open agenda, but of course we'll visit with our 3 girls to Cabo Sao Vicente for sure!

      @@cyrano24100 on public holidays, as April 25th (which is the revolution day, not national day), most shops are closed, but most restaurants are usually open, and you also have supermarkets.

    Lisboa is now a huge tourist zoo. Super expensive towards to rip off, over crowded by thousand of tourist, with long queues everywhere to visit interesting spots.
    Believe me when I say it's become an unbearable city to visit (and live in), especially if you want to experience quality tourism and hate crowded cities.

    Do we need to rent a car ?

    • @TravelsInSpace
      @TravelsInSpace  2 роки тому

      We spent a little over a month in Lisbon and almost 3 months in Portugal total - we only had a rental down in the Algarve. Lisbon and Porto has plenty of cabs and public transportation to get us everywhere we needed to go. We took the train to Sintra and Porto as well.

    Considering the supermarkets: that’s absolutely not accurate. There are supermarkets everywhere. Sometimes 4 different chains in the same area.

    Does Lisbon require mask wearing? also do the restaurants require proof of vaccines?

      We were there in September 2022…no masks/proofs of vaccines required anywhere we went. My best guess is that they may be required in hospitals. Luckily we had no need for medical care on this trip, so I can’t speak to hospitals specifically.
