The positive thing was she WANTED to mend her relationship with her daughter...kinda crapped out after being told some of the things she was doing to contribute to the bad blood between them.

Everything she does, everything she is, is one big qUiRkY 'I'm not like other girls' moment after another. She's so concerned with rejecting the wrongs of her upbringing -- both genuine and perceived -- that she wrecked her life and happiness. Worse, by raising Rory to be equally entitled, unstable, narcissistic, brittle, elitist, insecure, volatile, and delusional, she set Rory up to ruin her own life as well. Rory's choices are her own, of course, but they are informed by Lorelai's. And the fact that neither can make a halfway sane, logical decision without first undergoing an enormous emotional catharsis (and failing to manage sensibility even then, more often than not) speaks for itself.
