"All art and design is modern at the time it is made" - Cennino Cennini
" Tradition by definition, is the inherited and complex evolution of things cultural, social, conventional, and institutional. The question regarding it is: which traditions live and change, and which do not."

"Let us use our intelligence, together, to define our use and understanding of the word tradition, and once again, to proceed using it proudly."

-Duncan McCallum McRoberts
It would be wise to start using classic styles again, we need to get over our post-WWII fear of classic and ornate things.
"Have you ever looked at a bizarre building design and wondered, "What were the architects thinking?" Have you looked at a supposedly "ecological" industrial-looking building, and questioned how it could be truly ecological? Or have you simply felt frustrated by a building that made you uncomfortable, or felt anger when a beautiful old building was razed and replaced with a contemporary eyesore? You might be forgiven for thinking "these architects must be blind!" New research shows that in a real sense, you might actually be right." - Quinlan Terry

Fabulous!! feel good architecture. Modern architecture depresses and is soulless. Nobody ever wants to photograph modern eyesores.

@@mansardmanor3869 most people dont agree with you , most people like traditional styles look at any poll or study .architecture should not be experimental because by the time you realise it doesnt work your stuck with it .classical architecture is time tested and beautiful while new architecture is the opposite ugly and unsustainable( thats why modern buildings are replaced after 10 years while old ones stay) . Architectural style is valid but modern architecture has a lack of style , lack of symmetry , patterns or motifs that make a style what it is .Its just cheaper and people don't get a say in what is built . Architecture should reflect the people who live there not one man who decided not to listen to the public and decide what people wanted for them, people know what they want.

@@mansardmanor3869 Indeed it has its place, in the tragic. Here in Brazil, the Capital Brasília is an ugliness scandal. A shot in the foot! And it is only 62 years old, compared to the former capital of Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, which preserves, despite the heritage crimes, its historic buildings and important architectural bias.

I don’t know, but I wonder if it’s because there are so many classical buildings remaining in England/ rest of UK. That when you recreate them, quite often they end up looking somewhat “fake”. I personally prefer the medieval, and think the 17th, 18th and 19th century “modernisation” of so many said medieval buildings a travesty! Although beautiful, they were essentially destroying important historical buildings. Much like the mid 20th century - except they didn’t rebuilt quite so beautifully!

I'm an urban design student and I want to design places built in a more traditional way. Narrow and smaller streets for clarity and social interaction. Unfortunately, today the main goal is money and crappy rules, so the challenge is to find a way to break through that and create beautiful, traditional spaces again with pleasing looking buildings.

All the buildings are excellent and their architects deserve my applause! Here in Brazil, modernism invaded the minds of architects due to the search for "consulting houses" and not houses where the revivalist architectural style is in vogue. The truth that architecture students don't learn about architectural history in colleges. Sad truth! Here in Brazil we had great names of eclectic and neoclassical architecture, one of them is the late Ramos de Azevedo. Unfortunately, here in Brazil, everyone gives credit to Oscar Niemeyer, in this architectural funeral bet that was Brasília, in the urban sphere, and which does not carry any beauty in its architectural conception.

Where did Colonial Architecture originate from 🤔
One could go back to Greece and yet you find earlier style on *Petra* in the Jordan valley. Are there any earlier periods ?
Who can show where this style originated from.
Was it from the Nephyiliums of the Bible 🤪
Before you disagree, do you have proof 😮
