One of the signs of a declining civilization is the inability to tell good stories and make uplifting art. We've devolved dramatically in the 21st century.
This song kept going through my head yesterday during the 'Bayou Blizzard'. I live outside of New Orleans and got 8". It hasn't snowed here that much in a century! "🥶Nice place to visit but wouldn't want to live there"❄
I'm guessing probably someone who wants to see people of color in the movie other than just the bartender! Maybe the part of the movie where they make fun of Japanese!
One of the most iconic scenes in modern movie history. They got the chemistry just perfect. I wonder how many takes.... Wish I could be a fly on the wall for this one. I bet it drew the attention of the entire crew looking on, smiling. The men are masters, yes, but really, Vera and Rosemary were equal to the challenge. Pure brilliance!

Having watched White Christmas (1954) dozens and dozens of times over the decades I see this sequence "Snow" as the movie's nexus. Bing Crosby's "Bob Wallace" commits to going to Vermont and the trajectory of the rest of this classic is set. Even well after Christmas and the Christmas Season I'll watch this movie anytime it snows; just like it's doing now on February 13, 2022. One year, 2018, it snowed in early April (the 2nd of April) and I put on a pot of coffee in the hour or so before the sun rose and we watched White Christmas as snow was falling outside.
So do I! I'm from a younger generation, but I really love old movies and songs too. My mom, my sisters, my brother, and I have been enjoying them growing up. Even today, I still do, especially White Christmas!
December 9th 2022, and in Milwaukee we're getting our 1st snow of the season. I love snow and the winter season, Christmas and this movie! We're going to see it on a big screen Sunday, and I can't wait!
Not long ago I found an unopened VHS tape of this movie. It's been over twenty years since my Grandpatents passed and I still get goosebumps whenever I watch this.
At 1:05, you can see the ring on Danny Kaye's right pinkie: his mother's wedding band; she passed away when he was in his early teens. Born in the shadow of WWII, we "get it" and watch it every year during the Holidays and have traveled to see several of the pre-pandemic stage productions.
I saw this movie at Christmas 5 years ago in our local movie theatre. What a joy. It was wonderful to see it fully restored and on the big screen. This is one of my favourite scenes, as a child I was very taken with the close harmony singing which was incredibly out of fashion at that time.
Its not Christmas for me until i have watched this movie, last year i watched it twice with a few hrs inbetween, so more or less back to back, love this movie so much and i know all the songs in it aswell usually got them on the brain for several days afterwards
It's beautiful to look at!!! When you have below freezing temperatures and no electricity(no heat)it's not much fun to look at, especially when you live in Texas and you're not used to those kinds of conditions. We finally got our electricity back on after 3 days. There are still thousands that don't have theirs back on, so I'm very thankful. White Christmas is one movie my husband and I watch a lot, not just at Christmas. We love the old classic movies.
I really admire snow a lot when I walk one day out of the door from someplace and see it falling to the ground. Everytime that happens, I think of this song. Love to watch this movie every Christmastime!
folks on the internet always lie about yesteryear..."talent" was never a requirement in old Hollywood...that's why studio execs "found" so many models, store clerks, and beauty queens for their casting couches. Get real.
Supposedly Vera Ellen's waist was cinched in to 17 inches here. Beautiful harmony. Bing and Rosemary had such mellow voices. Trains looked like fun to travel on in those days and they even had a bartender.
A truly wonderful song from a wonderful, sweet and beautiful movie! They knew it was magic when they were making it and it's just magical now! Some trivia: the trains shown in this movie belonged to railroads that went nowhere near Vermont, Miami or New York! The belonged to the AT&SF(Santa Fe) and Southern Pacific, both Western U.S. railroads!!
What I find strange is the fact the the Rogers and Hammerstein Official UA-cam channel posted this. They didn’t even writing the music or had anything to do with this movie. This is a Paramount movie.

1:58 "It's fun to ride the train today, When the train you ride is Santa Fe." Santa Fe, all the way. This scene is obviously using stock footage of the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe warbonnet EMD diesels pulling a passenger train. The train in the scene is supposed to be in Florida which would have made the Atlantic Coast Line, Florida East Coast, or Seaboard Air Line more fitting. The stock footage continues in the next scene as they reached their destination and was of Southern Pacific, which definitely wasn't in the movie's main setting of Vermont.
WHAT I LOVE ABOUT BING CROSBY DANNY KAYE VERA ELLEN AND ROSEMARY CLOONEY IS THEY REPRESENT AN ERA IN WHICH YOU HAD TO BE TALENTED YOU HAD TO BE A PRO OR YOU DIDNT MAKE FILMS. PERIOD. ALSO THEY WERE SUCH NICE PEOPLE. ❤
It's rumoured that she can't really sing that we'll & that Rosemary Clooney sang both tones in the song "Sister's" in the film. Rosemary apparently can't dance so well ,so she did the singing & Vera did the dancing. I'm not sure if it's true or not, but that's what I read about.
@ G - My family and I just watched this again Christmas Eve. It's turned into a new tradition. Thanks for giving credit where credit is due. Danny Kaye was an amazing untrained, natural talent who learned his skills by working his way up the Borscht belt. My musically ignorant presumption, is that especially since this song is a four part harmony, the singer's vocal tone and range fit well with Rosemary's. In any case, this song is the one I most look forward to in the movie.

These classic movies are priceless! It doesn't happen often, but when Hollywood gets it right, the film makes history.
Commenting during the winter storm. As a Texan, it's surreal but magical to see actual snow in the neighborhood.
I can relate- absolutely beautiful 🥹- but this should be everyone’s fav Christmas movie- it’s not Christmas without White Christmas in my house
As someone who lives just outside of New Orleans, this song kept going through my head
These old movies had so much charm which today's movies cannot recreate
That's because in those days musicals were everywhere, different times back then .
So true.

This song gives me chills! Their voices are amazing! Just don't have that anymore!!
You're right. Pentatonix approaches it
(Actually, Vera-Ellen didn't have that then, either. Her singing voice was dubbed.)
Yeah I remember hearing that but because she was such a great dancer they had someone else singing her parts.
Yeah, T Payne and Miley Cyrus just don't quite have the right tone.
