Absolutely priceless upload! Had Clarence lived, he'd have been at the forefront of the mid-70s "newgrass" revival, I'm positive. Great to hear him trading licks here with the wonderful Tony Rice. I recall seeing The New Kentucky Colonels, featuring Clarence, in Derby, spring of 1973, wowing a group of college students, many of whom were totally new to bluegrass but were still left with mouths agape! Ah, what a tragic loss....
There has probably been a weeklong reunion and jam session of these 4 masters and truly wonderful people the last week. A heavenly hootnanny! I'm glad to say I was fortunate enough to meet 3 of them.
@@ksmith3702 I played with Wyatt on stage quite a few times, Larry and Tony once great guys great musicians! soundcloud.com/user-384429364/wyatt-rice-francois-vola-and-larry-rice-live-92 soundcloud.com/user-384429364/tony-and-francois-1996
I think he does at 17:05!!!! I think he's mentioning the bigger sound hole "really cuts" and how being "out in front of it he can really hear everything" !!!!!
I've listened to this more times than I could ever count..

The world was a better place with Clarence and Larry.

WOW, for White / Rice fanatics, pure gold !! Not a bland note in the bunch ,,,,, tasty, delicious, Thank you for posting !!
There is so much to learn. Thankyou.
Sweet sadness the last meeting, but not the last listening. Thank you for sharing.
Clarence White (Leblanc) was my uncle's nephew. I remember the news of his passing so needlessly, at such a young age. Flatpicking at it's best.
Born June 7th, 1944! …
My birthday is 60 years later
Larry Rice is easily keeping up with both Clarence and Tony doing some amazing mandolin work.
And that is praise indeed! Why do we not hear more about Larry Rice? His picking on this is electrifying!
@@asawhite2220 unfortunately Larry died from cancer in 2014 RIP.

Totally underrated mandolin player; he was a great picker.

Clarence picking and playing is much more rhythmic than tonys..I can really tell when I hear both of them together..1973..summer of 73.clarence dies.
Very cool. The only thing missing is Tony saying something about Clarence's guitar...
