    Thanks for this vid. I don't fish spoons all that much. I like the Thomas a lot but they tend to run deep (good) but also tend to run deep (bad). I often fish a maribou jig in 1/8 oz but if (when) I catch the bottom, I can switch to a 1/16 or even a 1/32. I lose those too but maybe less, so it does seem to help (a little anyway). I've switched out the hooks on all my Thomas to smaller, singles but haven't tried 'em yet.

    Rule #1: I stop counting lost lures after five! 😅
    Can’t buy new ones if you don’t loose some here and there. Bishop is always a great place to loose them Lol. Great Vid.👍🏽

    Caught a couple browns there on Saturday. 2 of em were eater size but I threw em back. Got a decent sized bass. Maybe 2lb. Biggest i've caught out of there.

    Ugh, I feel your pain. That's a lot of lures to lose in one session. But your choice of Thomas Buoyant Spoons is a good one. I discovered them last year and they are my "go to" lure for stocked trout here in the Midwest. Just a couple of thoughts--take 'em or leave them. First, maybe think about a heavier line. IMO, 2# test seems unnecessarily light for a stream like the Owens. Maybe plus up to 4# or even 6#. Second, think about switching out the trebles on your spoon to a single hook (siwash hooks in size #8 work well on the 1/6 oz. Thomas). That should result in fewer snags and shouldn't hurt hook ups. Thanks for posting. California has some incredible trout fishing in some beautiful areas. When I was stationed at Camp Pendleton in the 1980s, I did some trout fishing in the Golden Trout Wilderness, Sequoia National Park, some stocked lakes in the mountains on board Camp Pendleton and in some streams in the mountains west of San Diego. Good luck with your channel!

      Love thomas lures, been using them for almost 30 years now. As for the line, 2lb is all I use, anywhere. There are too many benefits for me to switch to anything else, I do have spools of 4lb and 6lb but those are overkill for the fish I target , which are between 2lb-10lb. As for the line sinking, I don't want that in a river setting like this.. I want it to act like a parachute in the current to drag the spoon into natural current channels where the fish will be waiting for the baits to go by. Also, 2lb izor is really strong, I've landed bows to 11lbs using it.....Appreciate your comments! Thanks for watchin.

      @menotyou816 5 місяців тому

      I agree with both points. I fish 4 when I'm in the Owens and I like to use the trebles. But i switch them out if it's grassy or lots of brush.

    Are all the trout in there that small?

    • @TroutWest
      @TroutWest  5 місяців тому

      Generally in this stretch, yes they are pretty small. Road side spot with a lot of pressure, probably one of the busier roadside spots along 395. There are other factors, but that's a lot of typing. If you can catch a fresh plant, you might see fish to 1lb-1.5lb

    You could try 6lb line. Single barbless hook. Trout don't know the difference between budget $2 lure vrs $5. Sportman warehouse sells cheap spinners. I remove the treble hook put a single barbless in its place. The heavier line will help recover snagged lures.

      If we ever bite the bullet and start charging the fair price for all of that stolen water would be able to make enough water to replenish all of aquifers we have depleted. Will never happen because all the spoiled brats in LA are used to free (stolen) water. Used to be a lake out there and a town by the lake, too!
