Not bragging but bewildered as to why, In third grade we had bible memory work, and I memorized different passages of the bible, today I am 83 and still remember what I memorized word for word, Plus poems from that era today I still try to memorize items, and have added many excerpts but numbers will not stay but words at times do? I am certainly going to try your method thank you

It’s wise to memorize scripture in these last - and unpredictable- days. One day memory may be all we have. I have always worried about that.
Can’t thank you enough. I started over a month ago, 3 verses a week. Trying to make up for lost time. Can’t thank you enough!

Considering that the Bible is merely a collection of quaint folktales and superstitions, which is more often than not just used to make one group think it's better than any other, and throughout history has been the "justification" for wars, senseless cruelty, and bloodshed, we'd be much better off without it.
All humankind needs is the Golden Rule: "Treat others as you would want them to treat you." If everyone did that, the world would be a much better place.
Never mind the rest of the silly occult supernatural nonsense that book is full of.

One strategy I have: I buy TONS of leather journals off of Amazon in various colors. They have stones on them and they also have many different designs and are all very unique. I don't particularly care if the stones or symbols represent anything new age, but as far as I'm concerned they're useful for memorizing my Bible. When I think of one particular Bible book, Malachi for example, I think of the color pink and orange. I bought one off Amazon where it's pink leather and covered in beautiful patterns and it has an orange and sorta brownish stone in the center. So I kept doing this for all the other Bible books that I really wanted to memorize. Now I have a whole shelf in my room with piles of them and each one is assigned to a certain number of chapters for each book. I also decorate them with different things like beads and beautiful stickers and things because... well, that's just how my brain works. I need sensory input to have enough willpower to study stuff and so I decided to use this weakness of mine and turn it into an advantage. And I know this is weird but... I also spray every page in them with cheap but really nice smelling perfumes. Really unique scents which make me wanna pick up these journals and do something with them instead of letting them sit on the shelf collecting dust.
    So here's the method...
Let's say for Malachi, I assigned the first 5 pages of my journal for different things like prayers relating to the verses in the book. I put them in envelopes so I can keep putting more of them in as needed. (The goal of each of these journals is to make them as flexible and dynamic as possible while also making Bible studies enjoyable and fun). I also put a table of contents in the first 5 pages and some useful facts about the book of Malachi. How many chapters, how many verses per chapter, and that sort of thing. I made it nice and organized and also designed with a balance of artistic expression and simplicity (because complexity will actually hinder the memorization process for me and I need to be able to have things laid out without a ton of distraction).
Next, I have these things called "tables" for each chapter ... I wish I could post a picture of them. But what I do is I use 2 pieces of hemp string and I cut some cardstock paper into these little tiny squares, and I cut another square in the center of those squares (like a square hole). I then put the squares on the hemp string which glues to both ends of the page and it enables the squares to move without accidently moving in a way I don't want them to move. Sort of like counting beads except with paper. I use them, however, to tell me how much practice I need on each verse. So if a chapter has 12 verses, I have 12 squares on each page (with some creative flair using stickers and scrapbook paper designs to help me remember that chapter and the purposes of it). The squares slide from left to right and there are icons underneath which are customizable and they tell me what I need to still work on. Most pages in these journals fit maybe 9 verses or so.. I try to break them up into multiple pages per chapter.
The next section after that... I have a title page for the chapter I'm going to practice memorizing. It's designed in such a way to help me remember the chapter and it also includes stickers and other useful notes of encouragement and other things. Let's say there's chapter 1... each page after the title page will be used for 3 verses each with any remainder less than 3 just being at the very end page of that chapter's section, and it just ends up using more space on the page. Why do 3's work? Using the same brain superpower technique, we can see things by location. The first verse will be on the top part of the page, the second verse in the middle, and the third on the bottom of the page. It works by helping me remember, if I'm given the verse number and chapter, to know what it says. It's also useful for if somebody says a verse and then asks "what's the verse and chapter?" It works efficiently both ways if a person can train themselves to think in 3's over time with the journals.
So what's on these 3 verses per page? Pnemonic techniques, drawings, and all sorts of things that remind me of what the verses say. They are all unique and they are in a mini flip-book format using paper strips. I see a picture on one page of the flip book, and I can recite the verse. Or, I see a picture of a pneumonic, and I recite the verse that way. I practice using as many methods as possible and add pages as needed to practice with. There is a way to keep them open and also removable in my journals so I can practice in various ways. I also include small pages about what the verses actually mean to help me understand them better, and any other useful insight.
So I continue to do this for each chapter. Next section after the chapters includes several pages of literary analysis designed with as quick and easy a format as possible... summaries of each chapter on 1 page only, a section for any character genealogies maps if needed (it helps to see them), a section for jotting down prominent themes, a section for any notes about the setting and historical context, etc. Any other useful information to help me understand things.
I then go into a section of pages intended for jotting down as many useful (secular and non-secular) lessons I can derive from the book that I possibly can. I make the list as extensive as possible. I also have a section for what the text teaches about God's character, and another section for what the text teaches about the plan of salvation and any other spiritual truths. I also have a section for any Bible parallels I find with the text. I also have a section for questions about the text and (later, hopefully) any answers I find (and I try to keep these in envelopes to keep all of it flexible for years to come). I then have a very big section for personal application notes at the very end. :)

Here's sort of what worked for me:
Owls. I found so many leather owl journals on Amazon that are all very unique. I use them for Proverbs and for Ecclesiastes. Because... y'know... it's wisdom. lol
Compasses. I found many different leather journals with a compass on them and I use them for the book of Acts. Compasses remind me of all the adventures and travels that happened in that book for the purpose of spreading the gospel... Even though they weren't necessarily fun adventures all the time.
Leather journals with Egyptian designs.. I use them for the book of Exodus for obvious reasons.
Leather journals with a feather quill on them. I used them for Psalms. Just how my brain works.
Leather journals with trees. They remind me of Genesis.
Blue leather journal with a blue stone... I use for Lamentations. Because... y'know... when you're *blue*...
Roman Colosseum leather journals (yes believe it or not, I found these on Amazon but it took a lot of searching). I use them for Romans.
I have many others that work well for how my brain works... but this is just some of the list.
Yes... it's expensive... but for me it's all worth it. I can't go wrong investing in God. Plus I get to help out the small businesses that are struggling over in Asia and the Middle East by ordering these things whenever I see them.
I also spend time at hobby stores trying to find ways to make these as fun and engaging as possible. I like supporting Hobby Lobby because they're a Christian and Conservative store. :)

If anybody wants to employ this strategy, here's what you gotta remember:
      - SIMPLICITY, SIMPLICITY, SIMPLICITY. I can't stress this enough. I've seen people go to town with Bible journaling by stuffing their journals with all sorts of randomness... I don't know how people somehow don't go banana bonkers trying to find things when their journals are 95% designs and artwork and 5% writing. If that works for you... okay.... but to me it is borderline cringe to stuff a journal with something like "vintage junk journal scraps" that are 0% functional and seem like a huge distraction from the memorization and learning/study process. Artwork should compliment what you do to HELP you learn something, not distract from it. And then there's the total opposite: I've seen people do journals with 100% writing but the writing is rambling about things for pages on end and taking up a lot of space, and the artwork is simply not even there (Why????? Just why???). God gave us artwork and colors for a reason... and there's nothing more distracting from the learning process than looking at excessive rambling about a topic or writing on the same page that isn't related to analyzing, understanding and memorizing the verses at all. Save the long personal narratives about how your day went for another journal intended for that purpose alone and keep these focused solely on organizing useful information derived from the Bible. If your personal experience actually helps you remember something from the Bible, then great, but if it doesn't, then it's best saved for a different journal.
      - Which leads me to FUNCTIONALITY. Everything you put in these journals should help you achieve something in your learning experience, not be "stuffing" without any real substance.
      - ADAPTABILITY. You'll want to cherish these your whole life. Try not to mess up when you make them and also try to aim toward making these flexible so you can add/take away elements as needed.
      - CREATIVITY. Go with the flow of YOUR OWN creative flair. The kind of flair that your brain gets an endorphins hit from and you wanna go back and look at what you just made because it makes you feel good just to SEE it and FEEL it and be immersed in it. Go with the flow that works for YOU and YOUR style of learning. The more you feel good experiencing what you made, the more likely you'll return to it and do more study and practice.
      - UNIQUENESS. Every page in your journal should be unique and enjoyable because you'll remember things better that way.
      - Do not overstuff your journal full of notes and practice pages for 1 Bible book when you can spread it out into multiple journals. One single 200 page journal for Ecclesiastes is simply not enough for me the more I dived deeper. You will be glad you spread it out into multiple journals because learning from the Bible is a perpetual experience intended for endless notetaking. When you make multiples, try to get them to match with their designs somehow so you'll be able to find and easily recognize them and recall them by memory. You will be glad you did.

2 God also said to Moses, “I am the Lord. 3 I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name the Lord, I did not make myself fully known to them"
Read those 2 verses a few times and then write down the first letter of each word, so
    2 G a s t m, "I a t L. 3 I a t a, t I, a t J a G A, b b m n t L, I d n m m s f k t t" ..... Using punctuation, and you should be able to read it from just the first letters alone, read it a few times from the letters alone and you'll have it. I think that's a good process to remember verses quickly :)

Hi there! Thanks for the comment. When you fill up all 7 of your weekly packs, you can put your oldest verse into a "Day 1" monthly pack. Then, review that verse on the first day of every month. Once you fill up that pack with 8 verses, you can start a "Day 2" pack.
Eventually, you will have 8 verses for every day of the month. At that time, you can start adding a 9th verse to each day of the month... then 10, then 11, etc.

Hi there, once you have eight verses in your Monday pack, you can take the oldest verse and put it in a Tuesday pack. Every time you add a new verse to the Monday pack, take your oldest one out and put it into the Tuesday pack.

Why is there a date from 2months from the og date

    • @challengesdsu
      @challengesdsu 11 місяців тому +1

Great question. The date on the right side, which is two months after the original date represents the approximate date when that verse should be solidified into your long-term memory. It will also roughly correspond with the date. It should be transferred out of your daily pack and into a weekly pack to be reviewed once a week.

If it’s the former, then it’s no wonder that it doesn’t work for you. I’m sorry that you bumped into more people who think better of you because of the principles of the Bible. Those who do so for the former purpose are not better, I can assure you that.
However the least I can say is that the Bible is historically accurate. Say what you will about the recollections of peoples experiences, I don’t convict you of that, but I would prefer to address that with which you are receptive to.

@@Arcticmaster1190: "the Bible is historically accurate"? Have you READ it? It's not even close.
How is robotically memorizing chunks of the Bible going to improve your life? The book was written thousands of years ago, by totally ignorant but completely mortal MEN, who knew NOTHING ABOUT ANYTHING. They wrote it as a means of controlling the gullible and making them do what the writers wanted them to do.
The Bible says a man can have more than one wife and also take concubines. It says that we should KILL all adulterers (and Jesus says in many places that anyone who marries someone who was previously married commits adultery) -- but at least that would finally get rid of Donald Trump.
It also says we should kill people who work on the sabbath. I guess that includes police officers and ER doctors -- but we'd better get on that.....
