I get this isn't for everyone, but I don't think it's fair to write this off as a cartoon sentinel. This is way more classic than the haslab version.
Definitely classic but it's the cell shaded type shadowing that i feel gives it that animated look
But this is obviously an animated sentinel.
I totally agree. I get that they didn’t work out and extra layer of detail, but for classic comic collectors this is the sentinel design I’ve been waiting for!
@@docdoc2011 Unlike other animated takes though, X-men 97(and the original show) heavily adapt the comic designs. I find it fits perfectly with the comics display because of them. If this was X-men Evolution based or adapting the Days of Future Past movie, yeah the animated influence would stick out.
Seeing the paint prototype from today. it's not that animated to day. It's actually kind of sinister looking like a mockery of a human face.
Classic comics Sentinel styling, which both the original animated series and ‘97 drew from. Also, a customizing artist’s dream as no electronics means some great repaint options. Gonna be hard to pass on!
These are a nice alternative for those who couldn't afford or didn't want the Haslab one. Even with the more simple and animated design, I think they look pretty cool!

Wish I had the money and my own place big enough for all of this kind of cool sh**! I didn't get in on the Dragon Man because of space. I believe I kind of missed the haslab sentinel. But, if it was still going when I first looked it up, I couldn't justify it then either.
I got a spot (I think) for my Dragonfly. But, I had to pass on the Rattler. And now, probably every haslab Joe/Cobra vehicle going forward.😞
If I ever win the lottery, I'll be hitting up the community, the resellers, etc. So, whomever, make sure you always got one of everything mint in box so you can get a piece of my lotto winnings when I buy that bull**** off ya'! But, right now, I'm almost poor. Going broker because of the crap I already buy.
You know you want it. My HasLab will become my Mastermold. Yours can become it too, and two ‘97 Sentinels. It’s going to look great!

This is the definitive sentinel. To each their own but I love this look. I like it better than the haslab.

Just started X-Men figures this year, very late i know, so having a big Sentinel is kind of a god send. Due to space, I'll only get one, and that's enough since I'll have the 2-pack game Sentinels to fill the remainding space.

This is super affordable. I could not afford the HasLab so I'm glad this came out. I also wonder where all the articulation is gonna be, probably in his hands, right? Anyway, also digging that Hasbro is not charging until item is ready to ship. Kinda impressed all around.
I'm sure they'll find a good balance of articulation.
If you want cheap army builder Sentinels I'd suggest the Titan Hero Series Sentinels, they're 14" so more than twice the size of the X-men 97' 6" figures and they look like the animated series versions. They're not that expensive, like 28CAD but for a Danger Room display you can't beat that price imo.

I know it's marketed as "X-Men 97" but this essentially the Jim Lee Sentinel and I love it

I'm perplexed by some of the comments saying they preorder 3 or army building as if they were $20. For $174 these are not cheap. I think its way overpriced.

Looks dope! $175 is high if people are trying to army build. I feel it should have been $100. Toys have gotten too expensive and these companies have lost their minds, as well as us collectors. I had an awakening recently and decided to cancel all preorders and jump out of consuming. 🍻

I put a tentative pre-order down for 3, since it's near my BDay anyway when they're gonna be charged.
But I will admit I'm a tad disappointed, I kinda hoped they would be shorter, maybe just taller than the DoFP one. It would've gave me a chance to use my Haslab as a Master Mold

I ONLY collect the animated stuff so this was an instant buy. In fact, I bought 2 of them lol.
This is the design I think of when I think of Sentinels. That's really close to the design they use in Days of Future Past, which is my absolute favorite X-Men story.

Definitely a sweet addition to the animated section of my collection. Will have to pair it with my 8" retro carded Sentinels and the Sentinels from the Arcade Game that dropped a few months back. That should be a sweet little animated Series Sentinel group.

The Styling is perfect IMO, maybe the face cause use some sculpting/depth etc. For something this big, I think it being well under $200 or Pounds is quite fair. I picked up 3!
Yeah I agree the face could just just a little bit more definition so the paint isn't doing all the work. I wish it was actually a face plate now. It would give options. Though making custome heads probably not too difficult with that size.

Yeah to anyone that is complaining about the pricing on this thing, it is 222 euros over here, that is the price of the giant man at this point xd. And I hate that I might have to buy it because it´s literally the cheapest sentinel to get over here besides the two pack.

I like it. I totally get the cell shading issues, as to the animated look, but it could be a lot worse. Sentinels, for me, are universal figures, because there are always variations. So, for me, having this in the same "scene" as a haslab sentinel just means there are two different types of in the fight. The other option, display wise, is setting up a danger-room display, and this is the one used there. It looks "cartoony" because it is holographic.

This is great as it is and probs be getting 1 or 2 but day one of the Con there was a placeholder for it represented by a bit of ground with footprints in it, why dont we get that?

I love it...I love the Haslab version even more because of the gritty extra detail and overall more angular aesthetic, but this is really cool, and at a great price point. If I see it down the road at a collectible store or a used one I'd pick it up, I'm not a baller like that to pick up 3 of them let alone just one lol

I was torn when I saw it announced, because it made me wish I knew this would be coming, and I could have maybe passed on the HasLab for this one.
Yeah, he is expensive, but relatively speaking these days. You could get two for the price of one of the HasLab ones. I was never fond of the more House Of X inspired look, even if accepting it as a sort of compromise between classic and modern, with so much that was offered, especially with the size and extras.
That being said, if we got THIS GUY at that size and with the tentacles and extras, in the first place, I would have been much more psyched for it.
I get the concern about cartoon aesthetics. I hate the cel-shading of the VHS figures, so I was glad it didn’t continue for the ‘97 ones, even if somewhat more clearly stylized for the show.
I still picked up Wolvie because I think he definitely passes for comic. I feel like that is the case here too. Sure, we know it’s being sold as and inspired by ‘97, but that also means it applies to the ‘92 show and pretty much the comic design of the era. I think they definitely could work as comic ones, which makes them all the more enticing.
I certainly wouldn’t want you to have retro-active FOMO if I were you, Dave. 😜
Also, I think Dan Yun said the HasLab tentacles will be compatible with these, so I imagine it will also work the other way around with the blasts, as well.
I am definitely very tempted to pick one up, as the Sentinel I really wanted in the first place.

First thought, if I can afford the pre-order, use the HasLab with the Master Mold head, which is my favorite anyway, and have it flanked with two of the animated style. Master Mold should be more detailed, anyway.

I do this with all the Sentinel figures that have been released. They're just different models that Mastermold is pumping out 😂
I've got HasLab, 3x Toybiz BAFs, Nimrods and a few arcade versions (which I don't like aesthetically tbh)

Its 2 maybe 3 inches shorter the the haslab. Which is wild for the price....I'm a little torn on this one myself. I mean I want one but that a lot for one and not sure if I need this one but I know if I don't get it and want it later OMG them flipper prices. Will see how I feel by the end of the week.

I already pre-ordered it. I didn't even think about it, I just logged in and ordered one. Unrelated, I really like the way that the Haslab Ecto-1/Ecto-1A deluxe kit looks, I like all the shit it comes with, but I don't have room to display a car as big as my torso, and yeah, I want it, but I don't $400 want it.

It comes off as being lower in detail than the '90s animated rotocast one. It might not be but the painted details and relative sculpts of the Legends sure make it seem that way.
Yeah I'm really interested to see how the real thing looks in hand.
I pre-ordered 1. Would have loved to have gotten 2, but at *THAT* price?? Nah, I can fit 1 into my budget but not 2. The aesthetic is fine with me since it looks like the Sentinels I grew up reading about. I'm looking forward to pictures of the prototype(s) as opposed to the renders that they showed.

hunk of plain plastic. I was hoping to get two or three of these easy but thought it'd be around a hundred bucks. Ughh. I might get one. I do have the haslab one, which hurt at the time But it's quite a bit more detailed.

I'm alright with the simplified design and I understand why they went X-Men 97, but I would've loved something more 90s Jim Lee comics. It's not a whole lot different, but it's enough that it'd feel a bit off from the rest of my collection. I may still pick one up because I do really want a sentinel in my collection, but if it was more like the comic version I'd be tempted to build and army.

Well 3 is not that big deal when there’s people buying action figures for 1000 dollars a few times a year (me)😂😂. Besides the money is charged in about 1 year so👍. I may get 3 as well!

This isn’t for me. But cheaper than the haslab and will fit in if you’re collecting X-men 97. Plus you can get 2 and have a real sentinel army. We often lament younger kids aren’t into action figures. Maybe kids will find the cartoon. This is an awesome addition for fans of the show!
I certainly hope that 97 brings a whole new generation of fans!
I would be tempted if it was a bit smaller and around 100, 120 max but at this price it's an easy pass for me. I'm in the same boat as you, it looks exactly like the cartoon but it's too "plain" and plastic looking for my personal taste...oh and not to mention it's 223 euros here in Europe lol For a bit more than that I can get a Hot Toys 😅

I totally agree with David. When I heard about this i was so excited because i missed the haslab one but then i saw the cell shading and it put me off. I hate cell shading and i agree with david that it looks out of place with the other marvel legends figures. Im hoping later on they release a non cell shaded version. So i saved £185 ($241)

In EU, this sentinel costs 222.99€(19% tax included). I have recently preordered Transformers scorponok for 240€ and that is too much, but it is triple changer, the sentinel, on the other hand, is just a giant figure with some articulation, it shouldn’t cost 180€. WTF? I am torn, I really want it but I can’t justify the price. With that money I can buy several other marvel figures that I want in my collection.

I was really excited for a sentinel, too, but having seen how smooth they've made it (and the price in the UK!), I think I'll pass, because the rest of my collection is far less animated.

i got 2 lol this guy is right out of the tv show. this is what i think of, when i think of xmen's sentinels. i understand why you like the haslab more but this guy is what i was introduced to as a kid so i just love it lol. from the colors to the look it's all i ever wanted. but ya the coils would've made it perfect.

animated look isn't for me but looking at pics I'm sure some custom work could fix that, however no way this is worth $100+
bigger doesn't always mean more expensive there are plenty of figures and toys that size around $20-$50 with MORE PAINT. This is a smooth sculpt with very little paint and size and accessories do not add up to Giant Man type prices imo.
Yeah, the paint detail does seem a little lacking, I think they could have done a lot more with it.

Idk maybe when we see the prototype it’ll look worth it but this looks like a figure that doesn’t need a humans touch to be made, other than the hands articulation is pretty simple but toys of this size back in the day were way easier to get good articulation on because of the size being easier to work on.
I think the price is way too much. They could have kept the look and have less articulation to bring the price down to $50 bucks. If you want to army build, the titan version that came out earlier at about 14 inches tall for $25-30 is a better choice at this point in my opinion

I am conflicted i like sentinel and the idea of army building but i have a few issues turning away which is weird for me to say. I am a bit bugged about one made for order right after another puts a bad taste in my mouth it just way too soon, even though i like it over a Haslab. Other issues are i can army build drasticly cheaper versions of this version. But i was saddened by missing the Haslab and my love of x-men sentinel.

There is no reason they couldn’t mold in the details instead of drawing them on. The point of a toy is take a 2d rendering and bring it into 3d. I get cell shading as a way to make it look more animated, but this was just lazy. Also, they bragged about articulation but it is missing some basic articulation in the legs that would not have disrupted the animated feel.

Honestly this should have been 100-150, at that price I would have gone for 4 at 175 I might get one.
Hasbro are pricing themselves away from people army building figures that should be army built, they keep releasing cool stuff then pricing them greedily

Seeing as Night of the Sentinels literally blew my young mind back in the 90's, I owe it to myself to get at least one of these..I love the aesthetics, it truly looks to be based on the original series Sentinels that I fell in love with..

I'm conflicted, on one hand it's cool that people that couldn't or didn't get the Haslab Sentinel have an alternative option that is far cheaper and may incentivize them to buy 2 or 3. But this kind of dumps on the people that did buy into the Haslab (and anyone else that backed the Haslabs honestly) that spent way more money than they should have, sure this offering isn't as elaborate or comes with much of anything but still this kind of raises the question: what was the point of the crowdfunding campaigns if they could just do made to order pre orders? Even though this is a good thing for the customer because at the end of the day we're getting more access to highly demanded items, but a little more transparency would be nice. Like if they release a Galactus in this fashion that was more retro and cheaper that's gonna cause some shit.
I would never argue that a company the size of Hasbro can justify crowd funding
