Ha Rob you are right. I don’t think I have put a UA-cam video up in a year…. Done a few more Instagrams in a more informal way. But yes, should do more. Hope you are well.

As a fan myself it feels like a closer relationship with our favorite musicians, a glimpse into your work. It makes for a richer experience once the final products are out. I can see why it might be daunting but let me tell you we really appreciate the exposure, the details, the "making of" behind-the-scenes stuff. For the longest time we were in the dark when it came to how things are done, so thank you Rob. Regards from Buenos Aires. Hope to see you on stage again soon.

    Thanks Rob, very inspiring
I’m 68 and just love playing.
The covers band I’ve been gigging with for the last 10 yrs are folding and I’ve been turning these thoughts over in my head on what to replace it with. Not sure where to even start, then this/ your clip just popped up.
    Thanks again.👍🏻

You're welcome. My advice is just start. At first you'll hate everything you do but just keep going. Everyone has something to share i believe.

@@RobHarrisGuitar Likewise Rob, our mutual Cordy connection switched me on to you, well that is until I connected the dots and realised I'd been listening and enjoying your playing for years! A Funky Odyssey was on heavvvy rotation at parties during my first year of music college, legendary! Love the candid vibes and behind the scenes aspect of your channel. All the best dude 🐝🎸

Great video, Rob. 100% spot on!
I feel I’m in a similar boat. I dabble in UA-cam and I enjoy it, but I find the process very time consuming and difficult to maintain. Also, I’m not 100% comfortable in front of the camera, so I end up compensating by acting like an idiot!
    All the best,
    Bobby

    • @RobHarrisGuitar
      @RobHarrisGuitar  2 дні тому +1

Hey Bobby hope you're good. Definitely feel you on the not feeling comfortable in front of a camera. Just gotta keep
Going and not be put off by the view count. I'm
trying to think mostly of what could be useful for the viewer rather than how many views the videos get. It's helping me not to get discouraged when views are low.

That’s great advice Rob. Like you, I’ve struggled with social media - I’m old school too. I guess it’s a kiwi thing. Then one day I said screw it, I’m going all in on this, hence daily video etc. still have no idea what I’m doing but it’s fun mostly so will keep at it a while longer

Well said Rob. I love your UA-cam videos, they are very inspiring. and I'm a bassist who's just turned 60. I doubt if I will play live again because of my back problems but still love playing. But next year I might get something going. love soul and funk. I've just purchased a Marcus Miller Fender jazz and just love it, it's changed the way I play and sound. Keep up the great work Rob.

I started recording videos playing songs a year ago for UA-cam and Instagram. I think it’s a good way to push yourself a bit about playing or learning new songs and get some feedback.
Keep your content coming Rob, this is a pleasant and relaxed channel

Great video Rob. Any chance of sharing your thoughts on different uses Facebook/UA-cam/Insta/Tiktok can have for musicians? Was talking to my barber the other day (young guy) and he said TikToks best for clips, Instagram for business marketing etc. He even went onto to talk about linking up Facebook and Instagram …….but then he lost me. I’m not on social media but am inspired by your video. I’m 60+ so need to get on with it. Certainly remember the MM/NME days!

I always enjoy hearing your thoughts on topics like this. It does seem that getting work is still about who you know and social media has really become an extension of that. I've been a little hesitant to get other social media other than youtube but if I want to work with other musicians, that's the best way nowadays.

It does help. It's not for everyone but I've found it opens up lots of opportunities

Opportunities for the arts...very rare for the average musician. The highly talented and highly skilled and dedicated will always rise to the top with the same work effort I / we do. I am a sub average musician, needed a graphic design business to survive (pay rent, utilities, food). I have zero talent, and little skills, just stubborn about dragging myself to a higher level, my body/mind/ears/heart/soul kicking and screaming all the way. I make a new song, learn, and then make the next. I stopped worrying about producing the life out of everything, and just call it done and move on to the next. In the end about 1 out of 20 have some merrit.
I did a biography book for a famous Australia ballerina, and a classical dancer from Los Angelis. They were both over 80 years old, the number of opportunities for these two super talanted who worked a million hours on their skills, were few. Their whole life condensed down to a book seemed an insult. But taught me the importance of every performance we do, because there are so few available.
The ultimate joy of UA-cam is talking (writing) to other musicians around the world. It is really a very small community. Conversing (writing) with people from Syria, Japan, China, France, England, Germany, Polland, and many more has been wonderful. I think in the land of UA-cam we forget that 500 views are a large audience, at least for me if playing live in a smaller auditorium. I search UA-cam a lot looking for new musicians and am only disappointed about half the time in my discoveries. The other half are very good at wearing all the hats, good: musician skills, innovation, creativity, and recording quality.
We all have a whisper of music in a loud world of the few wealthy musicians. When that whisper is isolated and playing our song on UA-cam it is as loud as the Rolling Stones.

Hiya kiddo. I’m having a rare lid in, and watching your funkie junkie 😊.
Really good advice Rob, even for ancient souls like me🤪.
I really will try to put more out there. Thanks for the post.
I’m the meantime, I’ve got THE LAST tune of yours I’ve pinched, slightly altered added lyrics recorded and ready to master, but need your OK and permission.
So please expect an email … I hope it’s ok to send you?
    Love Paul
ps Danny WON I’m a celeb yesterday. Chuffed to bits for him🤩

I really feel uncomfortable with nowadays people relationships. I d rather prefeare to meet people in real. The real feeling you have when you meet somebody in person and feel that person also musically cannot be compared with nowadays way to meet and share. I miss 90’s
