  • @jnyerere
    @jnyerere 4 роки тому +17

    People should understand that in most cases (90% of the time), you're better off selling all your possessions (car included) and taking your clothes and the few gadgets (phone, laptop, etc) you'll need. It won't be worth your sanity to ship all your American possessions over to Tanzania. It will bring nothing but unnecessary stress and anxiety. You wanna move abroad as light as possible.

    • @NKOpare
      @NKOpare 4 роки тому +3

      I disagree with this. It is very difficult to find quality things here. New residents can bring their personal effects in once without duty. As long as it is done through an agent under sixty days after residency permits granted.

    • @blaisekufuidi9808
      @blaisekufuidi9808 4 роки тому +5

      @@NKOpare I disagree with u too. Csar is right. They will have to make the move as light as possible. High quality stuffs that you are talking about can be resumed in phones, tablets, laptops, small portative gadgets like radios, hair clippers, cameras, drones etc. But you will not tell them that they will have to bring tumble dryers, lifting machines, sofas, bikes, cars etc! No! Unnecessary too expensive to afford. Even tv's are not very necessary to bring up. Because in Dar es Salaam as well as in most of the african capital cities you can find them in good quality: 50"-55", Flat, curvy etc. Travelling sista said it all already. So yeah, travel as light as possible!

So like someone said, grab your clothes, personal items & electronics and leave everything else. What about a Vita Mix...I’m sure you must have those there. I no longer use a juice but I use that and a paint strainer bag, it works wonders without all the clean up of various parts. 😂😂😂 I’m all for simple. Great, great video. High quality stuff is expensive and hard to find here in Tanzania. If you are going to become a resident you can bring your personal effects in without duty one time. Don’t get rid of your best stuff. You will spend many multiples of what you sold it for and get lower quality. Buy your own shipping container and have it professionally packed and climate controlled stored until you send for it.

    thank you for the video! how about natural cleaning products and organic products in general?

      Mmm... not so much. I have seen very few but at a high cost. But you could always use things like white vinegar, lemon juice, water and a dash of essential oil for a general cleaner.

    Thank you for this useful video. I have a question about Christmas decorations, is it easy to buy Christmas decor?

    • @travelingsista
      @travelingsista  4 роки тому

      No not at all. The do celebrate it, but not in the capitalist- heavy way that we do in the states. No one decorates their homes, wears Santa hats 🎅 or throws ugly Christmas sweater parties.

      I've been in TZ last Christmas and I did see some Christmas decorations, however they're plastic and not really stylish. The Christmas trees are funny looking, but in a way I found it funny and it suited the environment. It felt like they did it for the foreigners. The Maasai beaded Christmas decorations are very cute though!

      It's not in our culture to do so. Besides, money is a little tight, people prefer to care for love ones than spend it on Christmas decorations. But you can still find decorated Christmas tree in people houses. The one who can afford it. I live in US, I barely see Africans have decorated there houses other than Christmas tree. I myself never did. 😊

      Yes you can bring them as well. I know a sister here who brought her anal dog on the plane no problem.
