This qualifies for a video since it was 90s produced. Also when I said “brought back SS” I was trying to say brought back SS for the Monte Carlo nameplate since the prior, fifth-gen Monte didn’t have an SS model, only an LS and Z34 model.
Have a 04 SS with the naturally inspired 3800 LOVE IT Almost 300k miles on it and runs like its 2004 still . LOVE IT just simple maintenance all her life . And run s like a beast in the streets . Keep your SUV'S nothing like driving a true coupe !!!!
I watched it twice before I responded. I thank you for doing a great job telling the story. I remember the last one in the 1980's and the 1995-1999 model. It sold well. The restyling in 2000 looked good as well. I rode in one. I was shocked how roomy it was. I was glad to see it used the 3800 V6 bringing reliable power. I hate to say this but, the 2006 model basically did what the 1995-1999 model did. It has influence on the look by the companion sedan. The 1995-1999 was influenced by Lumina and the 2006 forward was influenced by Impala sedan. It softened the look some how. I am just thankful Monte Carlo to to run as long as it did. I had heard that too about the coupe market dying. but like you said it was Camaro that changed things. Imagine if it had more features. Chevrolet kept it simple. They are durable cars. So many coupes were gone by the time Monte Carlo stopped production. Thank you so much.
Thanks for watching it twice. I know the 5th & 6th gen Montes got a lot of push back but I always liked them despite being FWD. In particular, I like the looks of the 00-05. I’d like to get my hands on a clean 04 with the L67. Too bad we don’t get cars like these no more in the auto industry.
@@MotorMaster_Stunticon Not many people know this but the 5th generation Monte Carlo actually influenced the luminous design, look up the 1992 Chevy Monte Carlo concept car and you'll see what I mean The 2nd generation lumina is actually a 4 door Monte Carlo
I don't think the 2006-07 Monte Carlo was influenced by the Impala. They both came out with that front side look in the same year. People think that the 06 MC was influenced by/look like the 9th gen Impala because the see the Impala everywhere, and the 6th gen MC (especially the 06 and 07 years) are rare to see on the road.
First car ever was a 3400 2003 monte. Soon it will no longer be my daily, and will be given a second life as a project car. Love the nascar look, so much so that one of my first mods was a side exit exhaust
Man I got a 2001 Monte Carlo RN I named him m3 even though he is a 3.4 I still love him . as this being my third 6 gen Monte Carlo there fun and reliable and has a beautiful NASCAR look

8:00 Heeey... that's my car. Less the Diamond cut 5 spoke wheels. The guy I bought it from(I'm 3rd owner) had it sitting on some weird chrome 16x6" wheels that didn't match the cars esthetics at all. Apparently the original wheels were stolen in Cleveland Ohio before it was relocated to Nevada. I put it back on 17x7" wheels that are closer to the originals but look better imho. With 161k miles on the odometer, it was pretty mint but the engine was in dire need of some TLC and the Catalytic Converter was shot. No rust on the under body however. That was my biggest worry being it began life in Ohio.
I bought a front end damaged 05 intimidator the maroon one, got a new bumper lights and radiator for it tuned it up put exhaust on it shocks and drove it 8hrs there and back to Mississippi, the car drove like a real nascar, burn rubber easily, hit corners well i should say hugged corners no body roll, i sold it because my buddy begged me for it for a long time lol i will definately get another one, gotta be supercharged tho 🔥
I knew the end was near for the Monte Carlo when the '06 came out with a front facelift only compared to the Impala sedan's full reskin. Ford had done the same thing a few years before with the Taurus wagon, but there had been a long tradition of doing that with workhorse station wagons while the coupe *had been* intended as the style leader. And then they announced the new Camaro and there just wasn't room in the Chevy line for two big coupes.
back in my high school days I wanted one of these so bad. Even after I graduated (2003) I wanted one. I would see these driving around the hood a lot. Never bought one but I did test drive a really poorly maintained SS monte back in 2011. I barley see these cars now but when I do they are in pretty bad shape.
Dope video. Really enjoyed it. I like the Monte Carlo.. Super weird having a V8 powering the front wheels. I had an Impala SS and for some reason it didn't really bother me then. Yeah that was a great era for cars. GM was stuffing a lot of their FWD cars with V8s back then haha. I like all iterations of the Monte Carlo. Maybe they’ll bring it back one of these days (hopefully not as a crossover)!
Yeah 2000-2007 is my favorite generation of the Chevy Monte Carlo, my uncle used to own one in black but I forgot what model year it was, he eventually traded it in for a Volkswagen jetta
I got an 07 Monte SS. It really feels like a nascar with the v8 under the hood, but I really wish they would of atleast made thee ss model a rear wheel drive. Still a great car tho and it’s gonna be a collector’s item in the next 10 years.

Just bought a 03 Jeff Gordon edition. Was sitting out at a small dealer for 2yrs. I offered them 2000 less than they were asking cause i knew it was sitting and now its my daily driver. Its currently at 240k miles
A mate imported a 71 Monte over 10 years ago, he got fed up with it a year later, I wanted to buy it he refused. Last I heard it’s still rotting away outside his house!! Some people are odd.
Good stuff as always. Yeah I knew what you meant when you said brought back SS. The 95 and 99 models had the Z34 which was supposed to be kinda like an SS. I’m glad they brought back the SS with the sixth generation although it was a bit underpowered at first. The SS name it great but IMO the n/a 3800 didn’t do it justice. Thanks for the upload.
Z modded Chevys are stronger faster then SS counterparts just look at the pricing of the Z71 trucks in the z modded blazers by GM all of them carry more powerful stronger engines
Nice informative video. I personally own an '03 SS that my brother got from someone else at $500, and it runs great but needs cosmetic work. One of the things I hate is that Chevy discontinued the Monte Carlo in favor of larger vehicles like SUVs and Crossovers, same thing happened with the Impala in 2020. Sucks but oh well, what can you do?
Well, they were considering the discontinuation of the Malibu, however, the Malibu outsold each of their crossover/SUVs. The Tahoe, Blazer, Equinox, etc. That’s great news because it communicates to the manufacturer that not every human being wants a friggin crossover.
I don't wanted a FWD car again as daily driver. But a 2001 one Monte Carlo SS gained my interest. Love my daily commuter the 4th Gen Camaro with the same Buick 3800 II, does so well during the winter months & in heavy snow. But the Monte Carlo SS is way better equipped with Dual Zone AC, heated seats etc.
My neighbor has a Galaxy silver 2005 Monte Carlo SS! Funny enough i actually gotten an 04 Impala SS Indy Edition! The only special edition Impala ever made!
After having an 86 sport coupe, a new 95 LS, I bought a 2000 SS and drove it for 12 years and racked up 250k miles on it. Obviously the Monte is one of my all time favorite cars and Im heart broken Chevy felt the need to discontinue it. I've since abandoned GM altogether due to their lack luster models I now have a 21 Challenger, partly because with its dimensions, design, and driving feel, it reminds me of having a Monte once again.
I bought a 2006 Monte Carlo with the 3.9L LZ9 V6 in 2007 as a GM Certified Used Car from a dealer in PA. It had just over 28K miles on it when I got it. That car was literally the most problematic car I've owned. Everything that could go wrong with that engine did, including coolant leaks (twice), leaks from the transmission cooler lines, problems with the intermediate steering shaft and more. All of the problems happened between 28,000 and 95,000 miles, when I finally sold it. It's no wonder Chevy decided to discontinue that engine in 2007 as it was such a piece of junk. I haven't bought another Chevy since then.
In a way the Monte Carlo has lived on as the Camaro. I own a 2021 Camaro LT with the 2.0 turbo, and I love the car. The only thing I dislike about it is the back seat is unusable. I always thought they should have put a Monte Carlo badge on the great Camaro Alpha platform, gave it a longer hood and some swoops on the side, some Cadillac luxury and more room in the backseat it would be the perfect car for me. In my youth I owned a black Monte Carlo Luxury Sport with the euro front clip, brougham interior, T-tops and factory (rare “checker style”) rims. I want that car back so badly! Too bad the 5.0 V8 only put out about 150 hp. I also had a 2001 SS with the 200 hp 3800, also in black. Engine was strong, put over 90,000 miles on it and still ran like new when I traded it in, but it had a problem with the transmission and the fit and the overall quality didn’t feel great. Especially the cheap plastics inside the car. I rented a 2007 LT once with a V6 though and the overall feel of the car was 100% better than my 2001. Car handled much better and the interior materials felt almost premium.
I enjoyed reading your comment. I agree, a Monte Carlo built on the Alpha platform would’ve been dope. Let’s see if they bring these cars back, especially since Ford is hinting at a Mustang sedan..
I have a 2004 Monte Carlo SS supercharged that i dont drive in the winter that's in excellent condition and drives like a beast! I always get compliments on it because most of them nowadays are rotted out rust buckets
I think the 5th generation Monte Carli, based on the Lumina, was way better looking than the 6th generation that looks to me like a coupe version of the Impala of that era.
Yeah the fifth-gen was nice looking in my opinion, however, the general public often complained that it was too bland. That why we got such a “radical” design for the 00-05 models.
I had an '01 Monte Carlo (not the SS) for about a year. It was a very confusing vehicle. It was enormous, but had two doors. Was not luxurious, was not fast, nor economical on fuel, nor did it handle particularly well. The shifter button would fly across the cabin if you slipped your thumb off of it too fast, and one time a strange plastic stopper came off of an unused vacuum line port on the engine, causing the car to accelerate without my input at random. More power to anyone who found these cars enjoyable 😅
@@dwoolaver1549 I got the car in that state, and it wasn't exactly a nice car to begin with, it's a late 1990s-2000s GM product. Also, none of those things I mentioned were really maintenance related issues! The shifter button was just a cheap and rattly piece that eventually got sloppy enough to fly out under its own tension, and that vacuum cap just kinda fell off, it was just a small gray plastic nipple that probably cracked from age and heat eventually. None of this was some sort of neglected service, I changed the oil and such regularly (the previous owner certainly did not though, I'll say that much).
nice car. monty carlo not related any lumina that vehicle was related to a minivan I've seen 2 door luminas quite often. monte carlo was always monte carlo.
GM makes a lot of bad decisions, this was a good car it got better with time, we don't need millions of ugly SUV's on the road, but whatever, btw electric will not be your total fleet in 2035, and now they are nixing the Camaro to for more ugly cars. Can't wait to see what they race in NASCAR next.
Bingo! It seems as though every other week they roll out a new crossover/SUV model. They’ll scrap a sedan and replace that single model with 3 different SUV models (seems like it at least). Maybe it’s just a trend-I recall in the 80s everyone wanted a station wagon so I don’t know.
I saw a video on YT about the end of the Camaro and it was hinted that it will come back as an electric (yuck) model. Some guy in a Camaro club was going on about how people are going to complain about the lack of noise (since there's no gas engine) but they'll be excited about the instant torque from the electric motor. Sorry, but I'll pass on an electric sports car.
I just bought a beautiful Dale Jr 04 SS L67 and i love it! I had an 03 galaxy silver High Sport SS L36 before and loved that one too. I've also had an 03 Impala LS L36, a 99 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP coupe L67 and lastly an 02 Grand Prix GT Sedan L36 so yea I love these GM W body cars
I did not like the 5th or 6th Monte Carlos for several reasons the big one is front wheel drive and for the 6 generation I couldn't stand those headlights or that trunk lid with those bumps in it it looked so stupid
This qualifies for a video since it was 90s produced. Also when I said “brought back SS” I was trying to say brought back SS for the Monte Carlo nameplate since the prior, fifth-gen Monte didn’t have an SS model, only an LS and Z34 model.
Z34 with 3.4 dohc have more potential then any 3.8

Yeah the L36/L67 engines are virtually bulletproof as long as you keep up with the oil changes.
same here love it and running strong
How does the Coupe handles in snow etc.?

The lumina was based on this car, look up the 1992 Monte Carlo concept car They took that car and made it 4 door Sedan out of it
have you seen the 97 prototype
e
Yeah
I had an '01 Monte Carlo (not the SS) for about a year. It was a very confusing vehicle. It was enormous, but had two doors. Was not luxurious, was not fast, nor economical on fuel, nor did it handle particularly well. The shifter button would fly across the cabin if you slipped your thumb off of it too fast, and one time a strange plastic stopper came off of an unused vacuum line port on the engine, causing the car to accelerate without my input at random.
More power to anyone who found these cars enjoyable 😅
Haha thanks for sharing that
Most of what you complaining about are things that never would of happened if you had done maitance.
I must note that the Chevy Beretta also made pace cars
😉
nice car. monty carlo not related any lumina that vehicle was related to a minivan I've seen 2 door luminas quite often. monte carlo was always monte carlo.
Sorry, but I'll pass on an electric sports car.
its ironic you mentiioned 7 up, im drinking cherry sprite lol. close, but not quite
Haha
@@MotorMaster_Stunticon Great vid btw
Thanks dude. I’m going to be producing another Monte Carlo video, so stay tuned for that.
@@MotorMaster_Stunticon Definitely! I had an 01 for my first car and I'm considering buying another one now so I'll definitely tune in
I just bought a beautiful Dale Jr 04 SS L67 and i love it!
Transverse mounted 6 cylinder front wheel drive and ugly. What’s to like?
This car isnt ugly, not my fault you love piss pots
Had it been a rear wheel drive vehicle it would have been a classic.really too bad.nice looking body style.I bet dale sr would agree
Agreed
@@MotorMaster_Stunticon This isn't dale sr. Is it.? Lil

@@MotorMaster_Stunticon o yeah 💯 t top or the areo coupe
The only thing I didn't like about the 2000 n up yrs were they got too big, just looked weird to me
Yeah I didn’t mind them. They were quite unique at the time.
I did not like the 5th or 6th Monte Carlos for several reasons the big one is front wheel drive and for the 6 generation I couldn't stand those headlights or that trunk lid with those bumps in it it looked so stupid
Yeah I hear ya. The 2000 model was definitely unique, but the styling wasn’t for everyone. I agree those headlights were pretty wild.
2006- looked awful
Yeah the 2000 looked better
I hate 7-UP
Yeah I guess Sprite is better.
I have an early 07 with the 3.5 i use as my daily it currently has 238k miles on it.
Nice, glad to hear it’s running strong.
I do not own one, I own two!!
Even better!
