    After watching your video, everything you said has resonated to me. I am just 30 years old and I feel exactly how you felt before you started your own business as a PMU artist. Now I know that I am not the only one figuring out what and how I can be successful on my own. I have always aspired to be my own boss and be successful, as well as someone that people can look up to and respect. I feel that the universe has brought me here to not only view your video, but also find the inspiration to believe in myself and be the artist I know I can be. So thank you for helping me find that motivation I needed. 🙌 💕 😊

    how long did you practice for you to feel you were ready to open a studio ? what did you do after you finish your microblading course , did you practice with models? by yourself? how do you feel or what do you catch customers as a first time microblading with the pressure that NY has a lot of competition.

    Loving your channel. Thank you for giving amazing information for those starting their PMU journey. I’d love a video on creating your policies, intake forms, and consents. It’s so overwhelming figuring it all out. Thank you again 💕

    • @annazhang
      @annazhang  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Cheri thanks for watching! I understand how overwhelming it can be trying to figure it all out on your own sometimes. The silver lining is that there's an abundance of resources available to us if we know where to look! What I recommend to beginner artists is to look for artists in their local city whose work they admire. Then, pretend to be a client. Actually go through their booking process from their appointment page and see the policies they've written up. See what types of questions and requirements you need for your business, and replicate them if needed. When in doubt, always reach out to your original trainer and ask for a copy of their intake forms/consents. I hope this helps, and best of luck to you on your PMU journey! You got this

    Wow!!! I feel like i’m on a similar path as you! I’m in esthetician school right now and i plan on becoming a permanent makeup artist & opening up a brow studio in the future!
    Do you think i should try to open my own studio after i graduate? or should i work in a spa for a little bit to get a little experience before i go solo?
    You just gained a new subscriber! I’m trying to learn as much as possible ! 😌

    • @annazhang
      @annazhang  3 роки тому +1

      Tara I was totally in the same boat!
      I think opening up a brow studio is a doable goal - go for it!!
      To answer your question, it depends on what type of services you want to perform in your dream biz.
      Personally, I thought I was going to be in skincare and open up my own skincare spa, which is why I worked for a spa to get experience. It did teach me a lot about client service and my understanding of the skin. However, I *technically* didn't need my esthetics license or my job at the spa to get into microblading (in NYC, you only need a tattoo license).
      Knowing what I know now, the only barriers to entry are: getting my tattoo license and investing in microblading training.
      There's a number of ways to "get experience" if you want to venture into microblading. You can work at a spa and save up for your biz, a microblading studio and see behind-the-scenes of how they run their biz, a brow or waxing salon, or at a tattoo shop even! The world is your oyster.
      Start with what you intuitively feel is right :) I wish you the best of luck! Thank you for subscribing

    This is super inspiring! Thank you so much for sharing. I’ve been looking for a microblading training course for weeks! Do you recommend Katie’s training? $4k is alot but i’m willing to invest in the right person and the right training!
    I’m a total beginner, know nothing about microblading lol, do you recommend this training for someone like me? I saw that Katie got 2 training classes: 1 is the 3 day Microblading/ Manual shading and the other one is 3 day brow masterclass. Do you mind me asking which one you took? Thank you and wish you the best!!! - HaMy

    • @annazhang
      @annazhang  2 роки тому +4

      Hi HaMy! To be honest I took both 😂 I started with the 3-Day Microblading and then a few months later took the 3-Day Combo/Ombre class (aka Brow Masterclass). It totally depends on which style you want to offer your clients first and be dominant in.
      Katie’s the best teaching beginner Microblading but if you want ombre training, my friend @cattinks has an amazing fundamentals course. Remember that your first trainer is the most important but they won’t be your last! You’ll continually be learning and investing, you just need somebody who can give you the support you need as a beginner. Best of luck ✨

    Do you recommend working at a shop to build clientele or it’s ok to start your own buisness right from the getco if you can afford to?

    • @annazhang
      @annazhang  2 роки тому

      Hi April! There's no right or wrong answer - crunch the numbers and see which makes more sense financially. Working at a shop may earn you less in revenue but will alleviate a lot of headache (such as supplies and marketing). Owning your own business may earn you more in revenue but can also create more responsibilities (supply costs, insurance, and overhead costs).
      A great strategy is to invest in training and improve your skills as an artist early on. This will take up the bulk of your investment but will also help you build your portfolio fast. I would say whichever path allows you the freedom to do this is the one that will make the most sense.

    • @annazhang
      @annazhang  2 роки тому +2

      Hi love! It's not necessary in my city to get licensed in esthetics before tattooing. Looking back now, I probably wouldn't have needed to get my esthetics license 😬 Only the tattoo license would've been fine!
      However, if you’re looking to expand in the future to include facial services, it’s not a bad idea. Personally, my esthetics journey helped me learn about the skin and working with clients much better. It’s taught me to be more professional when dealing with my current microblading clients, so I don’t regret it! But if you want to skip steps and start sooner, I would say just dive straight into microblading!

    Did you build a clientele after opening your studio or did you already have a comfortable clientele prior to opening?

    • @annazhang
      @annazhang  3 роки тому +1

      Hi love great question!
      I started from scratch with 0 clients, HOWEVER I did have experience working with clients prior to opening my studio:
      1) I worked at a spa, so I knew how to build trust with beauty clients. While I did NOT try to "steal" these clients into my own business, I *did* learn a lot about HOW to promote myself and my services.
      2) Prior to opening my studio, I was also running a side-hustle as a facialist, and I was promoting my facial services to my personal Instagram. This was completely organic traffic, and it worked really well.
      3) Taking what I learned from my side hustle, I decided to create a brand new Instagram for my brow page. I started promoting this to EVERYONE I knew, from my mom's friends to my college friends. I started by doing free demo models and word of mouth was getting out, so I was able to build my clientele quite easily. It wasn't a FAST process, it definitely took some time, but if you stay committed to the process, you WILL be able to build a clientele.
      I hope this helped! I'm happy to make a separate video about building a clientele for you guys. Best of luck to you!

    • @annazhang
      @annazhang  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Trang! It's normal to feel unprepared after a few days of training. My biggest advice is to not focus on the "big" problem (getting models and starting your business).
      Just focus on ONE step at a time. Focus on getting ONE model for now - learn from that session and see where you need to improve. Then, rinse and repeat.
      Over time, your portfolio of models will snowball and grow.
      I actually have a FREE 4-day challenge to help beginner artists get models and start up their microblading career. It starts on November 2nd so I highly recommend signing up before it’s too late! You can register here: www.zerotobooked.com

      As for location - it took about 2 weeks of daily searching in newspapers, on Craigslist, and walking around different neighborhoods. I also spread word around to everyone I knew & they also sent me pictures of listings they saw so definitely let others help you! I eventually settled on a location in my own neighborhood and luckily it was within my budget :-) I recommend having a monthly budget in mind that you'd be able to support the rent with.
      Hope this helped!

    Can you get financing? Like school loan ect? I'm thinking about it and what do you recommend on school research? Thank you for this video I feel the same way ? Like how much can I make per month?

      I believe several trainers now offer payment plans, however I'm not too sure about loans. I highly recommend Advanced Microblading for beginner training. As for potential income, it will vary on so many factors as is running any type of business. Best of luck!

      Hi! I've definitely heard this sentiment before and I can see why this belief can be an obstacle. I believe anyone can become successful in this field, no matter your age! It's never too late to reinvent your career and discover a new passion. If PMU is something you want to pursue, then you must first work on your mindset and this limiting belief in order to become successful. I recommend looking into getting a coach or watching inspirational videos on UA-cam to help you get started. I'm wishing you much love and success! ♡

    How is eyebrows / microblading...art? Serious question.

      Hi Selena! This is an interesting question! Personally, I think eyebrow tattooing is similar to art in that it involves playing with different shadows, intensity, colors and shapes. Each client is like a different canvas, which allows the artist to think through these different elements to create the most ideal brow for each individual. 🎨
