Per podcaster David Sampson(a former MLB executive), MLB gets plenty of weather warnings regarding hurricanes. Both the Mets and Braves had this past Monday off, MLB should have ordered a doubleheader to be played then. But, MLB's brand these days is making a bad situation worse
I did a quick look at the schedule. Mets and Braves had seven mutual off days. On April 18th New York was traveling between New York and Los Angeles. Fitting Atlanta in between there would have been tough. On the 20th of April New York was traveling between San Francisco and New York. Would have been tough to fit Atlanta in there. On the 10th of June the Mets were coming back from London. On the 20th of June The Mets were on a midwest road trip . seems unreasonable to fly to Atlanta for one game and then go back to the Midwest. On June 27th the braves were making up a game with the White Sox And September 12th The Mets we're also in the middle of a road trip between Toronto and Philadelphia. It could have gotten squeezed in somewhere there but it's not egregious to think that the most obvious solution was to add it to a week where there were TWO games scheduled in 4 days. And perhaps you would think that MLB and the Braves could have figured this out. Like play a double header last Monday? Play a game on Tuesday and everybody gets out. The failure was not in scheduling the game for this week. The failure was in mitigating the circumstances.
It's a cop-out to say the league didn't know how the weather would turn out. We NEVER know for certain! There's no excuse for not having a contingency plan based on the weather.
They do have a contingency plan, it's called rescheduling. Mets fans crying about MLB not trying to predict the Weather days out & schedule according to those predictions are just trying to change the topic from the Game 1 debacle. BTW have you seen the latest computer model trajectory guess & how the storm is actually moving? Should be a lesson to everyone.
@@wandameadows5736 No, it's MLB not making a contingency plan for THEIR playoffs and allowing a cheap ownership group to prioritize two gates over their own team, the Mets and the Diamondbacks. They hurt their own team the most.
The league hires, or at least in the past hired a company to advise MLB on weather scenarios for September and the Postseason. Several MLB teams also do this. I no longer work at that company of which I was a meteorologist, but based on what I know, the league should have had enough information on Sunday night to make a decision to at least get a double header in on Tuesday. The meteorologist of course couldn't give recommendations on logistics, but they could give their best guess on 3-hour windows to play games. As a Brewers fan, I'm glad MLB fumbled this and screwed the Mets and Braves rotations ahead of one of those two likely playing in Milwaukee on Tuesday.
Ken Rosenthal covering for the Leagues ass is insane. Blaming the Mets for the league asinine scheduling? Question. Who put the Mets on Sunday night baseball?? OH that's right MLB shifted it
Ken is not entirely wrong that teams could have won more games to avoid this situation. However, if said teams were 90+ wins, is that really the low hanging fruit to argue why they’re in this spot?
I'm surprised that Ken did not bring up that the Bob Nutting-owned Pirates have done this before with players. I remember when Jim Tracy took Zach Duke out of his last (or one of his last) starts of the season with two outs in the ninth inning because he would have gotten a bonus if he had completed the game. The managers change, the GMs change, but the owner doesn't, so the Pirates keep doing the same things.
The idea that the Dodgers would fire Dave Roberts after a bad postseason is absurd. I love you, Ken, and I know it’s not possible to have a full understanding of 30 teams. But as someone who watches probably 130 Dodgers games every year and follows every piece of news abt the team as a fan, I think Dave is an incredible manager and the team’s ownership and front office know it. Just look at how he’s navigated this season despite having no consistent starting rotation.
If Robert's doesn't win it all this year he should be canned. He's constantly been given one of the best rosters in baseball for the last 7 years or so and has one *title* to show for it. The last two postseasons are flat inexcusable.
Seriously, if we hadn't sucked SO BAD for the ENTIRE FIRST HALF OF THE SEASON, none of this would matter. If we had just won a few more games...2? 3?...we'd be set. Instead, there are a whole TWO GAMES LEFT now, and if we don't win them BOTH (the way we've been playing, yea right), we're screwed. That being said, we actually won more games than we did last season! And we're STILL screwed. Friggin crazy. Well, for what it's worth...LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOO, D-BACKS!!! 🐍⚾️
No MLB left it up to the Braves...MLB should've made the decision they passed it on to the Braves who made the best choice for their team. The Mets or Diamondbacks would've done the same thing.
I don't think you should be able to cancel it ===== why should any team if they are going into the PS have the option of playing less than 162 games for their regular season? Not fair.
Defending the league by saying, "these teams should've won more games" is such a stupid take. The league loves close playoff races. They should 100% have plans in place to deal with them and the scheduling challenges they can cause.
WOW the Media's Computer Model Trajectory Predictions have the storm going East of Atlanta now. Where it will really go we won't know until after its over. If you think MLB would be smart to base their schedule planning off a wide range of Weather Predicting Computer Models you need to use critical thinking.

Rob Manfred isn't too smart of a cookie!😂
thank you Ken...always enjoy his thoughts on the game.Always VERY fair, accurate.

MLB needs to have teams make up 1H rainouts during the AS Break - especially considering the longer break they now have.
it feels like the MLB is always a hot mess...

They hurt their own team the most.
EPIC Rant, Alanna! Loved it!
Play better earlier in the year just in case a hurricane washes out an important series at the end of year. Ridiculous stuff right there.
In that case blame the Mets, if they had won a world series more recently then it wouldn't matter so much if they get into the playoffs 👌👌🤦♂🤦♂🤣🤣
The Braves-Mets series should have been Monday and Tuesday DH

Exactly!! Why didn't the league have contingency plans based on different scenarios? It's common sense.
Ken is not entirely wrong that teams could have won more games to avoid this situation. However, if said teams were 90+ wins, is that really the low hanging fruit to argue why they’re in this spot?
"should have played better to keep this from happening" is an incredibly stupid response to this situation

Oakland Coliseum will now be a Possum Sanctuary!

That's ok, we love Kent Rosenthal anyway.

This mess is the cheap Braves not wanting to lose gate money on 2 home games. This is not on MLB.
No MLB left it up to the Braves...MLB should've made the decision they passed it on to the Braves who made the best choice for their team. The Mets or Diamondbacks would've done the same thing.
Why didn’t MLB move the games to a neutral site where an MLB team was on the road like St. Louis?
I don't think you should be able to cancel it ===== why should any team if they are going into the PS have the option of playing less than 162 games for their regular season? Not fair.
Mets Braves situation is a mess.

Ken Rosenthal in a T Shirt just doesn’t look right. Reminds me of when Hans Moleman tried to dress up like Bart Simpson.
Don’t blame my Mets Blame the Braves in the major league baseball they screwed everything up
Ken Rosenthal should get facts before he does his report
Dang she’s a hard one to please obviously .😂
Noted no proposals on the jumbo tron …
With pitchers no longer hitting, are HBP higher than before?
nobody cares
Shumacher is wriggling out of his deal to take the Cardinals job that he was told is coming open.

Ken show off that t shirt more
it is just luck in baseball.luck is always part of the game...
Ken covering for MLB sounds like such a reach....they messed up plain and simple. I used to respect KR but I seem to be losing it for him by the day.
So Ken, how much did MLB pay you to shill for them on this Mets/Braves series?
So a hurricane can’t be predicted Ken?
Nice try bud.
