    Lestat has quite the history in Paris. That's why he doesn't want to go back there. He was telling the truth about the vampires in Europe being monsters. They are worse than he is.

      @@KOFI_ESCAPES yes. In season two they show a flashback of the time shortly after he was turned in Paris. It's not much, but season three will be based off The Vampire Lestat, which will show more of Lestats story, including his early days in Paris. He wasn't lying about the European vampires being a "society of monsters".

    You are the only reaction I've seen that recognizes Grace's position. Louis let their relationship deteriorate. What is Grace supposed to do?
    It makes sense that Grace and Lestat hit their breaking point in this episode

      I agree and don't agree at the same time. She was just as responsible for her part as he was, and he didn't "let" their relationship deteriorate. Their JOINT failures of it and eachother, was the cause of that. Not just him. There are so many things that she did wrong, that aided in it. And there were so many things that she could have done instead to maintain a good relationship with Louis. But she didn't: For years, even after being disowned and rejected by his own family and from his own family home (that he continued to pay for and support)... he continued to try and have and maintain a relationship with her. Was he always consistent, no, nobody is. Hell, I have siblings that I only see every few years, and we still have an 'okay' relationship. As family... But he tried and tried and kept trying, against a multitude of odds. That were stacked and mounting against him, not her. But she didn't. She could have called, maintained a relationship that way, but as far as we know, she didn't. She could have invited him over to events, parties and family gatherings. Invited him to meet her children, made sure they grew up knowing him and knowing of him, as he was, and not what the mother told them he was... But as far as we know and as far as we saw/were told... she didn't. She had years and years, and an ample amount of times to visit him, at his home. Or invite him out. Again, as far as we know/saw, she didn't.
      He's not a perfect person, by any stretch. Never claimed to be. He failed her multiple times, as he admits himself. But she's not perfect either, and she failed him as well. Starting all the way back to the loss of their brother, something that horrifically traumatized HIM. So they BOTH have responsibility in it, it's on them BOTH. Not just him.

      @@-Arkin33yea I agree that Grace could have done more to maintain the relationship, however she actually did invite Louis to many events in her life, which is mentioned during their mother’s funeral. He just wasn’t able to come to anything because it was during the daytime and he’s a vampire. The only way their relationship could have possibly worked was if he told her he was a vampire, but that probably would have been too much for her mind to accept considering they come from a religious household. But yea the relationship falling apart was on both of them and it’s really sad how everything played out.

    Lestat can be so blind when it comes to Louis. Lestat saying “I have been waiting for you to love me” but he didn’t notice how Louis was looking at him during the opera because he was too busy hating on off-key Ernesto. He’s not paying attention to the fact that Louis gave up a family that he adored for him. The scene with Grace at the gravestone is heartbreaking. Only Claudia truly can see Louis’s heart, that it is filled with Lestat and all the craziness that comes with him

    I don't think it was just the final confrontation with Claudia, Louis and Lestat that caused the fight. Remember, this was after seven years of Claudia being gone and Louis being in a deep depression. Like Louis said, they were a simmering pot of resentments. Louis emotionally neglected and provoked Lestat for years. He blamed Lestat for Claudia leaving, and like he said "took cheap satisfaction in provoking him". It just all gave way with the fight.

    Episode 5 was very heavy and hard to watch ! Do you know why Lestat bit him? I recall him biting him in episode 1 where they were intimate and they levitated. But I wasn’t sure if it was meant to weaken him so he has no choice but to stay and heal or re-connect intimately because they flew again ?
    The sad part is Louis was stuck between his daughter and husband. He didn't say Yes or No to either of them.

    Loving your reactions! I was right there with you 100% when I saw this. Disregard the people complaining about characterization - the truth is that *every book in the series* is told by unreliable narrators, which means there is no one definitive version of a character even though some fans to pretend there is. That's what I love about the show: rather than trying to pretend there aren't contradictions all over the text, it highlights them and uses the subjectivity and the "odyssey of recollection" as a vehicle for the story.
    Everyone... please stop teasing spoilers. Let em react on his own!!!

    It's not your fault.. But.. lets not rush to judgement on characters just yet. Lets wait to get the whole story. Remember.. memory is a funny mistress.. and Perspective is key. This show will teach much about what happens when you get the story in bits and pieces from individual perspective. Let the tale seduce you. I'd be careful in the comment section. Lots of potential spoilers. This show will teach you much about the complexity of characters in A+ writing.

  • @Cool_beansmh

    A lot of book readers consider this a character assassination of Lestat. Too bad Anne rice passed before she could see how the show turned out so we will never know if she actually approves. Just remember this is all told from very bias point of views. Everyone loves to make themself look like a victim. Even tho i love claudia, she definitely was a bundle of mistakes and doomed the moment she was turned as a child.

    • @mieroth
      @mieroth Місяць тому +3

      They've deliberately said they are doing a different version of Lestat than the books, you're right in that book Lestat would never do this but they've set it up this way on purpose. I think it's valid to be critical of this and a lot of people are, but it certainly wasn't done by accident. And Anne Rice definitely wouldn't approve, let's be honest, she'd be okay with them changing anything BUT Lestat. But that aside it can still be - and still is - a good adaptation even though it does deviate significantly from the books in parts.

    • @mieroth
      @mieroth Місяць тому +4

      @@Ayjayem333 I think that's a bit of an oversimplification since Christopher Rice has clearly signed an NDA or something since he refuses to talk about the show. There was clearly some kind of disagreement going on behind the scenes and it very likely has to do with their portrayal of Lestat who they are/were famously protective of. I know that Anne wanted to start the series with The Vampire Lestat (so chronologically), so the series we got was already a compromise on her end since she didn't want to start with Interview with the Vampire (again).
      I absolutely love the show, but lets not kid ourselves here to think she'd have no issues with this adaptation. 😅 People just incorrectly assume what her issues would be, she would not care about the time period or race changes - she's said before she's very open to adaptations changing things, Louis especially (she was open to him being made a woman at one point). What she's always been insistent on though is Lestat not changing, since that was her blorbo.

      @ there’s a small minority of her fans that can’t mentally and emotionally handle some of the changes made to the story, mostly they cry and seethe about the race-swap of Louis from white to black. Honestly tho, it made the character much more interesting. Book Louis was mopey, insufferable, and one-dimensional.
