- QUETZALTENANGO, GUATEMALA // My first time in Xela. I eat a street torta with multiple questionable meats while I explore what the city has to offer. Planning on staying the night I search for my hotel and pray to the electricity gods that the dodgy hot water system works! This is Part 1 of the Xela Series. See you in Part 2!
Xela is the 2nd largest city in Guatemala with a population of about 700,000.
We are moving there from Nicaragua, in January. We can’t wait to get in cooler weather, as we have been in Matagalpa since February.
So overall, did you enjoy your time in Xela ?
We are Vegan but enjoyed seeing sights around the city. My wife grew up in Nicaragua. You are very brave….even before she was Vegan she NEVER would eat any kind of ground meat, hot dogs, baloney….NOTHING, telling me that Central America is not the US and that could be ground up anything.

We plan to go to Antigua. Actually Lidia is going soon with some friends to check out the Easter festivities. Without seeing Antigua, my research just tells me that temps are warmer and there are lots of tourists all the time…both things we typically shy away from. But we hear very nice things about Antigua and Lake Atitlan.
We have now been in Xela for about 7 weeks, and have LOVE IT.

Thanks! Anecdotal advice: predominately drank filtered water, street food was considered on a case by case basis but usually meant going for places with a lot of people ordering and if it was hot off the grill. Never got sick, hallelujah! Only foods I would avoid are those sitting around in a glass case. Good luck!

Mega bro how are now that you are in xela i recommend you visit xelapan they good brakefast and also in xela there is a place that sell tostadas old fashion way since mid 19 hundreds people say are really good, any way we like the variety of food that you show in your video 👍👍👍👍👍 make hungry every time q pones food
