The train operator was just being considerate of the passengers, and letting them off at the top of the escalator. So that way, they wouldn't have to walk down the platform and ride the escalator to the top. When you are trying to catch a flight, every minute counts. The train operator should get an award, for good customer service. :)
Conductor does NOT operate the train. Its a Motorman, an Operator, or an Engineer. Conductor collects fares, opens doors and makes announcements. They do not control the movement of the train.
On a freight train, engineer controls the entire train movement wise. There is usually no conductor. They sometimes have another crew called a fireman (and sometimes an auxiliary conductor) that helps with car coupling and other tasks. But only the ENGINEER moves the train, not a conductor.
Not true. The engineer or driver cannot move the train unless the conductor gives him the signal to do so. This is true of both passenger and freight trains. The train operator is responsible for the safe movement of the train to the next scheduled stop.
I worked at ohare airport, building the new international terminal. In about 1995, maybe. They were talking about extending it even then. And they must have tested the trains a million times.
@The09 Creeper I Live In America And Yes Its Called a Buffer In the U.S., But He Doesn't Need to be Rude About it. Also Thanks for Telling me How they Call It in the U.K. Because I Might Go to the U.K.
Not being rude or anything but this is the problem.. you see not all Electric trains have buffers.. what I am saying is for steam engines they have buffers but in nyc or the U.S they don’t have buffers.. on the MTA they don’t have buffers
Azuma 800 is this the only way they can stop?? I didn't know such a thing existed....I don't know why they don't just redesign the traincar wheels to hug the rail like a roller coaster, then it couldn't derail.😶
Because physics don’t exist in most movies, they could make the subway car go up the stairs, through the Empire State Building and then into the moon lol.
I mean i can forgive news stations a little bit since they don’t have much train knowledge, but they probably just pulled the first model of a locomotive off some database and didn’t think twice. Edit: they found a CSX locomotive at 4:18 that looks accurate, but used a passenger locomotive for the rail link derailment which is mildly infuriating
Why not use drones remotely to check rails for damage before the train gets to the location? Seems like a worthy investment to protect the train going on it and the load it carries

Holy crap half way up the steps. Dammit. I missed that by about 2 months. It must have been going full speed and faster than normal
Nope, signal system prevents that. Speed limit there is 15mph. Momentum kept it going.

They have been talking for years about extending the Blue line past Ohare. The operator took it upon herself to get that started with terminal service
I worked at ohare airport, building the new international terminal. In about 1995, maybe. They were talking about extending it even then. And they must have tested the trains a million times.
Narrator: Luckily no one was hurt, well only a few people were injured a little bit
It just hurts to hear people say conductor instead of engineer, to all you non-railfans remember, calling an engineer a conductor triggers railfans
I know right also applies with operators and drivers
conductor we have a problem still sounds better
lol in the uk and everywhere else except they US they're called conductors, drivers, or operators. never engineers
❤
And calling a motorman an engineer hurts just the same…..

The trains are automatic, the heavy snow whas the reason that the brakes were not functioning properly. Watch the video carefully.
