Hi Joel, I have been following with envy. Love your build. I wish I could do one of these beauties. I especially love your brackets for the AC and coolant tubes, amazing. You might want to consider exhaust wrap on your exhaust system. It looks terrible but contains the heat to the exhaust. BTW they are called hose clamps that you put on the pipes to get straight lines. I was a goal tender growing up in Minnesota so I loved the hockey puck as a shim.
Thanks Jeff, appreciate the kind words. Yes, have a couple approaches to heat shielding and wrapping in mind. Still fiddling with the fitment of the down pipes, but getting close to tack welding them.
Thanks for watching Dave. I follow Dan’s build and his quality is off the charts. Dan did full headers so he really needed to use the mock up kit, this hopefully is orders of magnitude easier than what he did.
Dave, working on the down pipes now, definitely have some fitment issues so looked up the Ice Engineworks 3” exhaust plastic fab kit. The 3” version is a new product and really nice, but it’s $750. Could always sell it when I’m done, but trying to figure out how to get the pipes oriented without needing to go there. Stay tuned!
Great progress Joel! One suggestion particularly on the cats since the clearances are pretty tight: make sure you have room to fabricate heat shields around them leaving ~1/2" of air gap. They get much hotter than the rest of the exhaust so need to provide extra protection around them and the angle pipe right after the cats. I did heat wrap on my shifter cables and the outer shell still melted until I added a metal shield.
Thanks Mark, I’m fabricating the exhaust down-tubes now and playing around with the shifter cable position. Hopefully I can get at least a 1/2” to an inch of clearance. I watched your video on heat shielding a few times and Johan sent me some detailed pics of his shielding. He used a product called Zercoflex on both sides of the shielding panels which he said worked really well.

My friend Dan Dulac used a plastic exhaust mock up kit made of plastic that he then transfer to the Stainless Steel. Joel you are coming right along.
