Nikon P1000 vs Sony Full Frame Camera - filming Saturn & Jupiter - who wins the Ultra Zoom battle?

- I had the Nikon P1000 and the Sony a7 IV with the 200-600mm lens with teleconverter compete against each other. I was interested in which camera is better for filming the planets Jupiter and Saturn. I was really surprised what good shots the Nikon takes in the ultra telephoto range.

How do you like it??
@@d.diggler9936 yaa i like it, but if you are looking for results for professional photos or videos, this is not recommended
@@LATivi so what do you do with that camera anyway?
@@上坂秋山 see distant objects, and don't bother changing lenses
@@LATivi ahhhh 🤔🤔🤔 I see, is it have good result like sky pictures?
I wasn't expecting that! Excellent video, thanks for posting.
The Nikon image was clear and had good colors, while the Sony suffered greatly from chromatic aberration on the edges. In daylight I think the costly Sony setup would shine through though. That Nikon gives a lot of power and options for a lot less money, getting shots that would have otherwise been missed.
This is the kind of videos UA-cam is supposed to promote.
Not really, unless you prefer bad comparisons with a obvious outcome

One of the coolest comparison videos out there ❤️🔥
I like Nikon Coolpix p1000 🥰🥰🥰
$999 Nikon vs OVER $10,000 Sony set up to keep up with a old Nikon. Amazing shots BTW, I can never get pass the atmosphere heatwaves to get a clear shot of Saturn....
You forget to realize we talk about a 4.5-539mm lens at 2.8-8. Thats in the best case effective look of 24mm F16 up to 3000mm F45 look. There is absolutely no headroom for creative stuff with out of focus backgrounds except for (well lit!) macro stuff where the P1000 really isnt that bad.
Its also a pretty unreasonable comparison... as if you would take a super expensive 300mm 2.8 lens and the most expensive 12 MP professional camera and then complain it cant beat the P1000 in its reach....
I have the Canon EOS R7 and a RF 800 lens, thats native 1280mm and 2200mm in 4k60 crop video mode, up to 3000mm with enhanced digital stabilizer. I can even shoot saturn HANDHELD!
@@harrison00xXx talk is cheap, show us the results.
@@AshishKumar-kv4hr what results? you have to specofy since i have no clue what results you are talking about?
reach? stabilizer? For reach i have enough examples with 2200mm
@@harrison00xXx the results of your setup about which you've been harking on and on continuously on every P1000 video. You wrote that you can use your Canon EOS R7 with the RF 800 lens to shoot Saturn handheld. So show us.
@@AshishKumar-kv4hr No problem, if you dont believe how stable the 2000mm+ are handheld, even if you could judge by other videos of any RF 800 F11 user, here is something, actually uploading. Jupiter is similar anyways and in good position right now
Actually the R7 is even making stabilisation WORSE (IBIS+ OIS always bad at 500mm and beyond and OIS alone would perform better but its not possible on R3 and R5-R7)
saturns next approach will be in autumn 2024, also its barely up in the sky where i live and i have to go thru a lot of atmosphere.
Awesome comparison, would have been good to do a moon, planes day and night, a satellite or rocket launch?
I love nikon
Got a Sony FDR-AX100 (29-348mm eq.) camcorder as a 127/1500mm Maksutov telescope. Pretty nice results from the P1000 😀
Versatile camera on and off a tripod.
Have been able to see Jupiter with several moons as Saturn and rings with the Mak 😊
A large amount of chromatic aberation with the Sony. The DSLR would do much better in a telescope i think.
Yes, I think so, too. Definitely something optically closer to the 3000mm focal length of the Nikon.
Thanks for the video. What is the difference in price between them..
Here in Germany around 1050 € (1030 Dollar) for the Nikon. The Sony a7IV (2650 €) + the Sony 200-600 (1580€) + the 2x-TC (550€) = 4780€ (4685 Dollar)
@@LindemannFilmFotoDrohne woowwwwwww
Don't forget the difference in weight. The sony, including the lenses, is about 6 times the weight of the Nikon. About 3kg vs 500g.🙂
@@guruburu4962 the nikon is 1.4kg not 500g
How do you find the planets? its not even visibile at first? :)
wow... beautiful

Merci beaucoup.
I was surprised by the result. I thought the Sony combo would be vastly superior, how wrong I was. Perhaps this is an example to show that pixel density is sometimes more important than sensor area, and also that pricey equipemnt is not necessarily better. Thanks, excellent comparison
Make a more reasonable comparison, such as Canon R7 + RF 800 F11 or Panasonic G9 II + new 100-400 and you will realize the P1000 sucks pretty hard at anything beside „zoom“
When you have a lot of light you can get by with smaller sensor area. Outside of that the full frame sensor wins by less noise and more details.
I hope you know that you are wrong and judging a compressed youtube video isnt gonna show you the result
Would be interesting to see a crop sensor camera with a higher pixel density per surface area also.
EOS R7 + RF 800 F11
Sony A6700 + 200-600G
Panasonic G9 II + 100-400
All of them are giving better results than the P1000
@@harrison00xXxso the Sony a6700 $1300 out performs the $3999 Sony a7 IV.......
@@GE_Phil yes, higher pixel density, a lot higher

Nikon ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Exposure is way too high for these planets... You should be able to pull out detail at that zoom.
How much did the lens cost on the Sony? More than the £900-1000 cost of the P1000 I bet!
Nikon 💪
The Sony a7R4 has a 61 megapixel full frame sensor. The P1000 has 16 megapixels.
As far as I can see, you can crop an image taken with Sony's a7R4 to a quarter of the original image and then obtain the same resolution as with the P1000 = 16 megapixels, which in that case would mean that a correct comparison between an image taken with the P1000 and 3000mm and sony with 2X teleconverter and 600mm = 1200mm corresponds to an image of 4 x 1200= 4800mm if you use Sony and crop to the same 16 megapixel resolution. Am I right or wrong? On the other hand, if the largest aperture that the P1000 has in the 3000mm = 8 mode, Sony's zoom 200-600mm with teleconverter cannot measure up to this, since the Sony zoom is at aperture 6.3 at 600mm and with the 2x converter loses a step to aperture 11 ? I think it will be. How do other properties such as dynamic range and other important features of the P1000's tiny sensor compare to Sony's full frame, even if you only use a quarter of it when you crop the image ???
P1000 has 4x digital 3000mm
You need to use a much lower ISO for Jupiter, around 400.
Nikon P1000..👍👌
No. Outdated piece of crap
Por eso tengo la nikon p 1000
Sony wooow
Cool. But how much closer 60MP Sony Full Frame DSLR or high-MP APS-C DSLR would be?
and how affordable the high MP APS-C setup would be compared to the A7 IV setup when it comes to reach.
I have the Canon EOS R7 and often use the RF 800 F11 (in total i paid about 1900€ for both, the RF 800 2nd hand). It gives me native 1280mm, 2200mm in 4k60 crop mode and about 3000mm with enhanced digital IS.
I have some moon shots and wildlife stuff uploaded. It was my first setup at all to have much reach for wildlife (EOS RP+ RF 800F11 for native 800mm)
Im very happy with this affordable supertele-setup (R7+RF800F11) but often enough its just too slow and/or too long (1280mm is MUCH) so i also have some other lenses (Sigma 150-600 6.3, 70-200 2.8,...)
It gives me native 1280mm, about 1400mm with digital stabilizer, 1800mm with enhanced digital IS, about 2250mm in 4k60 crop mode video (no digital IS, 1:1 sensor readout) and about 3000mm with enhanced digital IS in 4k60 crop but little bit sharpness lost.
I never understood those comparisons... its like comparing a regular car to a pickup and complaining about a single issue with the smaller, regular car the pickup doesnt have. Sure enough the pickup is more versatile (as the nikon has "amazing" 24-3000mm), but it is slower, less agile, consumes more fuel, probably has less space for passengers,... the 24-3000mm zoom capability just DESTROYED most reasons to buy this camera: Its image quality sucks, its low light and video performance is WEAK, its sensor size and lens choice make smartphone/bad looking images and videos (missing DoF, "real" look and so...). And still its a heavy, big monster.
Nikon clearly wins
It's nikon for zoom. But id go for sony's realistic resolution pixelate
I think you are kind of missing the point.
Sony camera is trash.
@@mariemccann5895be she is on point. The nikon can „zoom“, for anything else i would take the sony as well

yeah rarely you can find (sadly abused...) 200-600G lenses for this price. Pretty much unbeatable, its probably the best longer telezoom at all and i would love to be in the sony system with the 200-600, instead im at Canon and have a 150-600 6.3 zoom and a 800mm prime...
Why don't they use a minimum of 1" sensor, it will be much better.
I have sony a7iv with 70-200mm my question should i buy 2x converter or buy Nikon p1000 ? Which one better
Buy the p1000,good for the money
get a 200-600, its the best longer telezoom lens you can find more or less. Especially with a A7R IV body!
With such a camera you should be advanced enough to even know a P1000 "camera" is not for you, unless you ONLY want "small and light" reach without any usability (forget BIF, owls in a dark forest, proper video, lowlight in general, etc,...)
do a comparison during the day of random pics and videos.
That 2x teleconverter obviously murdering the PQ.
P1000 tiny sensors at 1/2.3 has 5.6 crop factor; it means 600mm in Sony FF is actually 3360mm in P1000. no need for PQ smasher teleconverter, just zoom it digitally.
I always thought Saturn and Jupiter photos were "artist's representations," or photos from telescopes in space. I never thought you could simply telescope it like that lol. I assume you should be in a ridiculously dark area away from light pollution in order to see them?
Why? Jupiter is one of the brightest objects in the sky. Saturn is further away but still bright as it's a planet illuminated by our sun.
Both planets are visible with your naked eyes even in cities, they are pretty bright, saturn a little bit less than jupiter.
Not really, you don't need a dark sky to see them with telescopes or binoculars because the are too bright. Although a low quality atmosphere would degrade the image quality, you'd see turbulence specially at high magnifications.
The P1000 image is better at probably 1/5th price of the dslr gear
Its not
@@harrison00xXx It is tho, at least regarding the specific purpose of this video.
@@crazyRyoga no its not

I'm sorry I can't help you with your problem. I have never had any overheating problems with the Nikon P1000.
The error is pretty self-explanatory. What specifically are you trying to learn? Also, what have your web searches turned up on this topic already?
Daylight bird photos with the P1000 are not as good as sony alpha 7xx.
how did you get to 10800mm zoom ?
It says so in the video: crop, digital zoom, teleconverter...
and for P1000?
For a fraction of the price...
A fraction of quality
@@harrison00xXx Yeah tat's generally how it works. You keep shitting on the nikon but you are completely forgetting it's 1/6th of the price, but only about 1/2 the quality, that's actually extremely good value for money, and better than anything you are going to put together until you are touching the 3k mark. It's the perfect entry point to planetary photography for people not yet ready to drop a months wages on a set up until they know they are going to enjoy the hobby. And if they don't, it's far easier selling on a single camera than a telescope, a lense, a barlow, a camera, some adapters etc..
@@BizlaC wrong
A Sony 200-600 you get for like 1200$ already, a Sony A6600, ZV-E10 or similar for about 500-1000$ as well
FullFrame + Teleconverters is already questionable, especially with teleZOOM (!!) lenses its pretty much an emergency solution. If you didnt know… TCs were and are mainly meant for fast primes, such as 300 or 400mm 2.8, 600 F4 etc, so the „professional“ lenses, not for „slow“ Telezooms such as the 200-600 6.3.
And thats just the sony system, if we look at other systems you are even comparable in price, yet have a noticable better quality compared to the P1000:
Canon R10/R50 + RF 800 F11 (between 1200-1500$)
Panasonic G9 + 100-400 (also about 1500$)
any random APS-C or even MFT camera and the newly released TTartisans 500mm F6.3 lens… lens „just“ 300$, the rest depends on your budget but good APS-C bodies you can get from 200$ and up.
You also fell for the stupidity done in this video… comparing absolutely not fitting gears with each other, at which point he could have also compared the P1000 to a Hasselblad D2X and saying the P1000 is „much better“ then.
Can you zoom in it
Yeah, but the exposure is not done right, they are overexposed.
Nice video. What song is this?
The sony is called How it begins by Kevin MacLeod
the teleconverter is introducing a lot of chromatic aberration
Yes, unfortunately
NIKON P1000 ==> 900$
SONY A7 MARK IV Body only ==> 2000$
SONY FE 200-600mm ==> 1500$
SONY SEL20TC 2x Teleconverter ==> 500$
So we are comparing a 900$ ALL-IN camera with a 4000$ one...
Based on this comparison it's a waste of money to take the SONY.

Yep absolutely useless
Throw in a APS-C, better MFT system with a cheaper tele(zoom) and the nikon will lose easily
The beginning is already nice "faked".... background music while showing the tube zooming out.... I guess the zoom motor sound isnt that..... nice sounding? :D Also its shaky AF when you zoom, seems like poor and bad mechanics in the lenses zoom system.
P1000 wins only one battle: The battle for the worst camera! Its heavy and big, its image quality sucks, you can barely create out of focus backgrounds (F16-F45 look), the autofocus is slow, its stabilizer is pretty bad for handheld usage which a stabilizer is meant to be used,...
Btw your F stop numbers are pretty wrong. the P1000 NEVER EVER create a 3000mm F8 look. multiply ANY F stop value with at least 5,5 (thats the crop factor for the P1000s sensor) and you have the real possbile F stop (look): F16 to F45. congratulations now you realized the P1000 leave NO ROOM for creativity.
