  • The Biden administration announced a new policy Tuesday that would protect about half a million immigrants in the country illegally from deportation. Senior White House officials say the executive action, being dubbed “Parole in Place,” would give some immigrant spouses of American citizens a path to citizenship while staying in the country.

He’s got my vote now. Why would an American Citizen not be able to be married to whoever the hell they choose, and for whatever reason they can’t get them legal status…what are they supposed to do, split up, move outside the US with their spouse?

... but the illegal immigrants shouldn't have come here illegally, to begin with. Do everything legally, and the problem is solved without breaching laws. We expect citizens to obey the law, but not immigrants? That's just not right.

@@djondjon Ok, but how is that fair to the US Citizen and if they have Children now, how is that fair to them? They're not out there asking for money, hand outs, or free anything, they just want the permission to stay here legally, they're literally trying to change their status.

@@juandoe7802 They should have done it right to begin with. They must have known their spouse was illegal. Fix the situation before it's a problem, so it doesn't become a problem.
I lived abroad for a number of years in my spouse's country. I got my paperwork in order right away so that I could be there without having to look over my shoulder.
My grandparents were immigrants to this country. They entered with the appropriate documentation and became citizens, so there wouldn't be a problem.
Follow the law, and there won't be a problem. But don't commit a crime and then expect not to get your hands slapped.
And you say what about the US citizen spouse? Well, like me, they could go live in their foreign spouse's country, if not permanently, then at least until the foreign spouse gets their paperwork in order so they can move (back) to the States.
But your spouse can't go rob a bank and then expect to not to go to jail because you didn't rob it. And it is not owed to you that your spouse gets away with robbing the bank because you didn't rob it. Just follow the law of the land!
And the kids ... their parents should have been responsible to begin with. And like the spouse, the kids can live in the foreign spouse's country with their parents. My kids did. And they benefitted from the experience. And when I moved back to the States, I brought our kids back with me.
Kids can be fine if the parents handle it right, and the kids can actually greatly benefit from the experience. Mine did. They speak 3 and 4 languages, were able to skip grades, and went to top notch universities (even Ivy League). (I learned 2 additional languages because of it all, too.)

@@djondjon You are wild to suggest the Citizen move abroad and leave any job he might have to go work for less somewhere else...
Robbing a bank is far worse than crossing a boarder sir, and the only reason the process takes so long is to vet the individual, yet all they go upon is a written history of the person and maybe meet with them for 20-30min once or twice during the process, folks can easily lie that way as well and technically break the law by providing false info.
I don't know you're financial status, but it's not easy moving an entire family to and back from a foreign country. They're not asking for a hand out, just a path to make things right. Everyone out there has messed up one way or another, and rarely is that person punished for life (Unless it's a serious crime of course).

@juandoe7802 If you were in a number of countries, you would be jailed, likely accused of espionage, and/or if you're lucky (because you wouldn'twant to stay in a foreign jail long), deported. It IS a serious crime; it HAS to be considered so because it involves a breach of national security. And even if your intention is not to harm the country, that doesn't mean the next person does not have harmful intentions.
Laws are for everyone - both you and the harmful individual(s). If exceptions are made for you, they have to for everyone, and that just will not work. You are wild and have a grandiose and false sense of entitlement to think otherwise. And any foreigner is out of place to declare by what methods we should use to screen people.
Why should a non-citizen who broke national laws (especially involving security) be entitled? (I mean, Look, break into a store or a factory or a school, someone's home, or anywhere, and you're in legal trouble. But break into a nation and expect to be told it's ok? That is crazy and assumptive. Can you imagine someone breaking into your home, deciding they're going to stay, and getting mad at you because your riddles are otherwise? ... and if you were in those other countries, you might as well say goodbye to your kids.
AFAIAC, immigrants are welcome, but through LEGAL channels. Do it right, and you have nothing to worry about.

Married to a USC and been here for more than 10 years. Yes give them legal status. If we can parole a criminal why can't we do it for people who just crossed the borders. Remember it's not for everyone and there's a cut off date.
