Placebo doing "20th Century Boy" with Bowie, "Where is my Mind" with Charles Thompson, and Molko doing "If Only Tonight We Could Sleep" with The Cure. Phew! Those guys could die pretty happy.
@@Azabaxe80Also, Bowie asked them if he could be a guest on their song (Without You I'm Nothing) after hearing it, saying "If I can't be on it, I'll do a cover". That must have been a massive pump to their egos.
God this would have meant SO MUCH to Bowie - everyone in London was near heart broken when Bolen died. It was so close to home - a little tight knitt commiteee of London singers. He was gonna live forever - that was such a sad occasion. You guys you dont realise for people in music - when it was still REAL - it was like Diana dying. x So glad Bowie got to do this x
"Starman" was the first single I ever bought (aged 7.) I saw Bowie perform it on Top of the Pops when Mick Ronson put his arm around him. The outrage in the papers the next day, but to me he was an oasis of colour and glamour in my brown and beige 70s childhood. I think that's where my love of the androgynous boys began so it's little wonder that I've been a massive Placebo fan for the last 20 years. They're such an incredible live band and Brian is one hell of a beautiful man. I would have loved to have seen them perform together.
It’s clear to me that Marc died and I’ve gotten over it over the years, what he would be like today, I don’t even want to imagine, but the eternal young man, the chameleon of rock David that he grew old and died? I can't come to terms with that. Not yet even though I'm 61 years old. 😎🎸🤔💖 Fantastic performance of Marc's bestseller
I'm a big Bowie fan and my workmate's brother worked for Radio 1 so we got a couple of free tickets to the Brits that year. I had no idea that Bowie was going to come on. I don't remember much because I had some sort of nervous meltdown.
Sad Molko was overlooked for the 2016 Brit Awards tribute they were very close friends. Brit Awards going for commercial appeal over who Bowie would have preferred.
Of all of Bolan's tracks this is the one that never seems to date...it skips across the generations and it's power and sound still remain fresh and vibrant .
Superbe reprise d'un des plus grands titres de T.REX dont le leader Marc Bolan est décédé trop jeune dans un accident de voiture . Magnifique hommage et magnifique prestation De Brian et David .
Thanks for posting! I just found this by accident and have viewed several times! Bowie is the consumate rock and roller. I would like to see anyone today, do what he did!
Both Bowie and Molko have beautiful babies, though, obviously, not together. Cody Molko is such a talented young actor! And Bowie has grandchildren now! (well, off course his own Duncan and Lexi are both talented and beautiful).
I love one of the great independent songs of my life being played by a commercial band at an industry event. If there was an authenticity left in popular music, it certainly died that day...although they did do a great job.
Bowie was the godfather to Marc Bolan's son Rolan. Marc separated from his wife in 1973, but they never legally divorced. So when Bolan died, all of his royalties reverted to her because they were still legally married. The big problem was that Rolan's mom and Marc's partner, Gloria Jones was badly injured in the car crash that killed Bolan. She would never sing again and Rolan had no access to his father's royalties. David Bowie stepped in and paid for Rolan's schooling, paid for many bills and kept Gloria and Rolan from becoming destitute or homeless. Bolan's legal wife died in 1994. Only then did Rolan gain access to his father's royalties. That is when Bowie stopped supporting Rolan Bolan.
Looks like a Steinberger guitar L-Series guitar. They didn't have a headstock, so the tuners were at the other end of the guitar, and the odd shape of them meant a lot of people referred to them as "Cricket Bat" guitars.
For placebo, this must have been a 'now I can die' moment. Lucky bastards.

I was waitressing a table at the back that night. I deserted my table for this, so glad that I did. Fantastic!

Wow what a story ^^
That's reeeally "special" , Julie.
And what about under table fun with any toy of any of these boys?!
Wow, fantastic story!
This version is so good. I love it. Love David Bowie, Marc Bolan and Placebo.
Bolan himself would of loved this , brilliant version, and to see Bowie loving it is brilliant too .
'would of'. Thick as schitt.

Bowie was awesome and Brian (Placebo) so underrated. Great band

Placebo and Bowie covering a tune by Bolan. It is so fitting, and a great performance.

I love how David Bowie is such an influence for both of my favorite bands: Placebo and Arcade Fire.
Yeah,me too! Arcade fire my fave band thanks to my idol Bowie!

It was written in the stars that I love this, my grans maiden name is Bolan and married name is Bowie. Epic.
I knew this song since a very long time but never with David Bowie's "help" - it's great !
Great cover of superb TRex song.

I Love Bowie
Gotta gotta get Placebo tickets.Bowie thought they were great, what a legend.
Why do all the great duets seem to involve David Bowie?
+beggar1015 so true. Bowie had a great taste in other artists.
because he's God
Because Bowie is what makes them great. Every great artist in the business today has a thumbprint of Bowie on their heart and in their music.
Well said, Carrie. So true!!!

Very cool.
Even got the first line right, most people think "robin hood" is "rock and roll"....Kudos!
I've never doubted it's "Robin Hood"
Also: "me I'm Robin Hood, and I puff on my cigarette" - Bowie. Blackout.
why is this not more posted....awesome..
