    Great review dear friend! Very useful, I definitely have to try Hoka! I still have some Salomon shoes for now, but afterwards I have to try Hoka and Altra! Fully watched and 👍

      Thanks Mihai, they're probably the opposite of Salomon but good to get some variety in the old shoe rotation.

    On my 2nd pair of 4s, I bought 11 2E first time I went up 11.5 2E in the same red, love these. Hopefully the 5s will have wide's soon I hear good things

    I have a pair of Hoka Speedgoat 4's, standard fit, which I use for my power walking/running on a hard flat surface. I suffer with metatarsalgia and I find the forefoot cushioning works wonders. I think Hoka shows look great and do the job I want them to do. I have also got a pair of Rincon 3's which haven't been on my feet yet but are intended for me getting slowly back into running after years away. Great review Darren. Just discovered your channel and subscribed. I'll watch your development with interest.

      Hi Kevin, Hoka certainly serves a purpose in the market and while others are trying to take a piece of the pie I don’t think any will offer the same range and variety. I was looking at the rincon for my roady stuff, thanks for the comment 😊

    This was a useful video for me . I had previously tried The speedgoat and wished it had been a tad wider .
    I have ordered a wide pair and have high hopes although the stack height
    I have been struggling with the Altra Timp 3 for a few weeks . They are nice wide shoes ,grip well and I actually prefer zero drop but the bottom inside lace eye and tongue gusset joint digs into my metatarsal after about ten miles .
    Anyway the review segwayed nicely into your other content . Your videos are great , really good to watch some English running action and the kind of content which matches my own running for a change .

      Thanks for the kind words, the SG are a great shoe...the more I wore it the more I wanted a little more stability but in all honesty I don't think it matters what I wear every shoe has its weakness. Sounds like the wide fit will be a good fit for you though.

    Good to hear review for wide feet user like me. I think all Hoka needs break in. I'm eyeing the SG4 wide for so long. As a back up pair for my Altra Olympus 4.

      I think its great Hoka do offer the wider version, seems to cover a broad spectrum of foot shapes with the two options.

    The Speedgoat 4 11.5 wide fit heel, width at ball of foot, arch, and length from big toe to front end of toe box. Smaller toes noticeably far from end of toe box.

    Great review mate. 👍 I'm lucky enough to find the standard width Hoka wide enough. Never used the Speedgoat, although I am tempted, but do run a lot in the Torrent. Less stack height so a bit better on technical stuff, but still enough cushion for a long run.
    I'd really like to try the EVO Speedgoat for faster longer stuff but at £150-160 can't justify it, even if it is supposed to be great.

    • @DarrenSmithTrailRunning
      @DarrenSmithTrailRunning  3 роки тому +1

      Yeh I was just about to suggest the EVO speedgoat before you pointed out the price tag! Wish I could get into narrower shoes, its a pain been restricted.

    Just found your channel. Good review. I wear the Hoka Bondi. I have a bunion, so I need a wide shoe. And I have a neuroma. So, I also need a lot of cushioning. Hoka wide shoes are the only shoes I can wear ( so far ) with no pain. I am not a runner. I walk a lot though. I am interested in these shoes for hiking . They sound like they would be perfect too.

      Thanks Evy and sorry to hear about your foot issues. Fit is always a tough one as we’re all so different. Next in my list to try is the Hoka Challenger in wide fit. But they don’t have as good grip

    Did you find the heel fit to still be secure despite the entire shoe being wider? The standard width feels great in the heel, but the forefoot is too narrow.

    • @DarrenSmithTrailRunning
      @DarrenSmithTrailRunning  2 роки тому +1

      I personally felt fine with the heel, no slippage and comfortable but it can be a personal thing.

    Got my New Speedgoats 4 wide yesterday, 3 miles last night and 6 this morning, feeling hot spots on the ball of my feet. Sure I didn’t get hot spots in my old SG4 🤔They may need more breaking in, It may be the VJ ultra for the 55 now 🤔

    • @DarrenSmithTrailRunning
      @DarrenSmithTrailRunning  3 роки тому +1

      I would definitely go with what is tried and tested mate...remember having a little discomfort in my mid-arch for first few runs too so may just need some miles but do bare in mind our feet and form change over time and with new shoes etc so could be that you have changed as a runner too?

    Fellow wide footer here and considering Hoka but wasn't sure whether or not to make the leap! May well give them a go now. Are there other trail shoes you'd recommend that are good for cushioning and width?

    • @DarrenSmithTrailRunning
      @DarrenSmithTrailRunning  3 роки тому +1

      It’s a tough one, finding both cushion and width, some of the Altra range may be worth a look but I don’t get on with zero drop. I’d also recommend trying the VJ Ultra maybe. Always important to use a retailer which accepts returns.

    Great review, thank you! My runs are a combination of trail/ street. Would these be ok for SOME street, or would you go with something else? Thank you!

    • @DarrenSmithTrailRunning
      @DarrenSmithTrailRunning  2 роки тому

      Hey Amber, I guess it depends. You will be able to run on street with no worries, however they do feature a soft Vibram outsole that will not wear well on tarmac. I've recently been running in these ua-cam.com/video/hQQBoxhH3Gk/v-deo.html because they have a harder, more durable outsole so they might be more suitable for a mixed bag. But they're a different shoe.

    Hi Darren, very useful review, thank you. I am a novice jogger and am currently using the Bondi 7 in wide size 6, but I regret not buying a larger size as I land near the front of my foot and my second toe takes a battering. (I am a 6 in a shoe). I am unsure if to buy a 6.5 or a 7. Any advice would be most welcome. Cheers.

    • @DarrenSmithTrailRunning
      @DarrenSmithTrailRunning  2 роки тому

      Hi. It’s very personal to be fair and each shoe varies. I wear half a size up in Trail shoes to everyday shoes but each shoe can vary too. I’d advise ordering 6.5 and 7 from somewhere with a good returns policy then spending sometime in them indoors to feel it out

    I am in the same boat. i tried a pair of wide SG4 today, they were just about wide enough, but would like a little more room like a cheap asics gel venture 7 4E. Question: will the SG4 toe box material break in after a while, the material looks like a plastic cloth. also.......this sneaker looks like something Goldmember would wear to a disco. thanks.

    • @DarrenSmithTrailRunning
      @DarrenSmithTrailRunning  Рік тому +1

      Depends on what you want from your Fell shoes for me personally I want very little cushioning as its not necessary and gets in the way, in that case the VJ iRock which is very narrow or the VJ Xtrm 2 which offers a little more room, both have very aggressive sticky grip and are my favourites for most occasions.

    I bought Clifton 7 the normal wide (D), and it’s a perfect daily running shoes but I feel that the shoes is tight from the sides, do you recommend me to buy the Wide Edition (2E)?

    • @DarrenSmithTrailRunning
      @DarrenSmithTrailRunning  2 роки тому

      I've not tried the Clifton but my understanding of Hoka is the width increase is in the whole of the shoe so if mid width is the issue I'd say going up another one would be a good idea.
