My wife and I were in Seoul filming this video just days before the crowd surge happened in Itaewon. My intention in proceeding with posting this video as planned today is out of full respect and admiration for this beautiful city, it's people, and it's food culture. What happened was an absolute tragedy. There's no other way to view it. But it's also a little too easy to forget a tragedy that's not happening on your doorstep. A common thread that every person on this planet can share, no matter their location on a map, is food. Hopefully everyone who watches this video can feel a little closer to Seoul right now and will be inspired to try Korean food or even visit some day 🖤
WOO WOO WOO !!! good on the edit love the style ... :) :) :) ... ROBOT WAITRESS !!! 😱😱😱
❤❤❤🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🥰🥰🥰
Wow dude, 150 people died and you’re living the life. Cultural appropriation, white privilege and you’re a closet homemaid.
Good word.
❤
Lorn and I had such a great time eating our way through Seoul. South Korea's food culture is incredible and I feel like we barely scratched the surface. So what'd you think of this video? Liked it? Didn't like it? Want to see more? Let me know in the comments.
More please!! It was really wonderful to watch! And I was sure you have like a million of those blue shirts and you filmed this over the course of a few days! That was a lotta food for one day! 😁
I personally love this type of video. You two did a great job, I'd love to see more!
Hi Bri! (you did say I can call you Bri), love the video, so happy you and Lauren were able to visit Seoul. Looking forward to seeing how you incorporate elements of Korean cuisine in upcoming videos. Also a plus to see so much Lauren screen time.☺️
The _onigiri_ 4:30 got me wondering about the influence of Japanese food on Korean. Three decades of occupation must have had some, right?
It's a fun video. It was shot surprisingly well, and the audio quality was excellent. Would love to see you do this with local food in the states too.
Korean food is like a hug from your Mom. So comforting. Also Korea has such an interesting history and culture. It’s a great place to visit.
It is the best hug! Just with some unbelievable spice and funky flavor added in 🙂
I'm guessing you don't have any Korean ancestry, but WOW - you nailed it! Korea's history and culture is very very unique.
I agree there’s definitely an element of that. However to many non Koreans, the food is generally very exotic, foreign and can be an acquired taste
I never get tired of visiting Seoul. Next time, hopefully you can make it to Busan and Jeju!
I'm really enjoying this format, and (as long as you're still doing recipes too) would love to see more!
Thanks JD. If people like this format I might try to do 5-6 a year. I don’t think I could do more right now and still make the recipe
Vids I want to.
@@BrianLagerstrom if you're traveling to places you really should do more of these. Even if it's just new cities. Would love to see where you go for Detroit Style when you're in Detroit for example.
I agree. Loved this format, but definitely wanna see more recipes as well. 😀
Hey Bri. I loved this format and would definitely welcome a few of these sprinkled among your awesome cooking videos. But, I wouldn’t want these to become the dominant format. That said, what both formats share is the Bri knack for great quality that’s also entertaining. You are the master, sir! 😊
I'd like to see you make (with recipes) the items you tasted on your trips.
I love this food/travel content. You describe the dishes so well and your video style makes me feel like I'm right there with you and Lorn.
Hello Paula how are you doing,
where are you from?
Super stoked to see travel food content from you guys this was great!
Dam shoutout to lorn the gimbal operator that could not have been easy to maintain while on vacation
Haha very tired arms by end of day.
Especially when your boy isn’t getting that narration perf first try
Seoul and South Korea in general have been my absolute favorite food city I've ever had the pleasure of visiting. If you two make it back, I'd recommend doing a temple stay - the food served at the temples is both familiar and incredibly unique, and it was the more serene experience my partner and I have every had!
We did a temple meal near Insadong on the second day. While I respect the craft of it, I honestly didn’t really enjoy it. Lorn loved it though. Maybe I missed the point. All of the other food we had was y good though.
@@BrianLagerstrom Interesting! I thought the food was fascinatingly humble and nuanced in a way that a lot of other Korean meals we had weren't. That being said, I think that's why I loved the country so much - before going, I had very very little idea as to the scope and variation that existed within Korean food. Either way, glad that you both got a chance to experience it!
Also, if it wasn't clear - LOVE this kind of content, and would watch you and Lorn eat your way through different cities and countries endlessly.
@@BrianLagerstrom We stayed in a ryokan in Kyoto, Japan a few years ago. You check in around 3pm and stay until around noon the next day. Huge traditional meals for dinner and breakfast. Meh. I hear you; the talent and tradition is unparalled, but the food didn't really do it for me. I was ready for a bowl of ramen shortly after checkout....
@@BrianLagerstrom I appreciate your honesty and am not surprised. The monks are limited with their ingredients because they do not use animal products, nor do they use garlic, onions, green onions, chives, and leeks. I am not saying vegan food can't be tasty, but once you remove so many aromatics that are at the heart of Korean cooking (on top of fish sauce and anchovies) the flavour options are limited. That said there is a famous Korean monk/ chef who has cooked for Eric Ripert and Anthony Bourdain. I can't remember her name, but she has been featured in many netflix food documentaries
the beef bone broth at 3:30 has flour noodles called somen instead of rice noodles :), the noodles that go in this particular soup are always somen or glass noodles which are sweet potato starch noodles. The noodles in the dumpling soup are also completely wheat-based (kalguksu or knife cut noodles). I'm glad you guys enjoyed Seoul!!! great vid
Thanks for the intel Heather.
Have been lucky enough to try that exact bowl of dumpling and knife cut noodle soup at Myeong-dong Kyoja... was heavenly!! Also, agreed - great job on this video
Loved this! So fun and enjoyable with your expertise and perspective on such amazing food. Glad Lauren was there to correct your Korean words/names. Haha. Really fun, hope you do more. But I watch everything you put on UA-cam so thanks. And your dedication at the very end was very touching. Made my eyes well up.
Thanks very much for watching Bob.
Thank you for visiting my homeland! As a Korean-American, Korean in ethnicity but born in America, California, I'm happy you have an amazing time at Korea and yes Korean cuisine is quite diverse, delicious and full of culinary and cultural surprises
please have a amazing day Bri!
Korean food might be my favorite food. So excited to share it with the people who watch my vids. Thanks for watching
Hard agree - it's full of an amazing amount of surprises! One could keep eating Korean food and never get tired (or at least I can!)...
So excited for this video! Thanks for sharing Bri. Hope it does well with the algorithm! Glad you two made it back safe
First, very unfortunate timing and cheers to you both for acknowledging that fact and celebrating your time in S Korea. Second, if the two of you just produced this level of excellence in a food travel video on your first try, holy crap how good are these videos gonna be in the future?? The authenticity of you two is what stood out, keep that up! Cheers to excellent work, thank you!
Brian, I just love this. Please make more videos like this one and then take some of these recipes and show us how to make them. There's not enough Korean food here in Paris, so I'm making my own!
I love your food tour blog. I trust your taste buds from using your recipes. Thanks for the great video ❤
Thank you two for your time and posting. Great job you two, hope you had a fantastic time. Would love to see cooking Korean videos.
I am a Korean. The video of my favorite cooking UA-camr traveling to Korea is very fun and interesting
I LOVE visiting Korea for work. The food is always amazing in every town I've visited. I gave up trying to learn the names of all the dishes and just randomly pick from the menu. Those flat metal chop sticks are tricky though.
I like the 'randomly selecting items' approach! And if there was ever a place where that can work it's Korea 🙂 Hope you get to keep coming back and eating more!
This is amazing. One thing I really like about Brian's delivery here is that he ACTUALLY EATS the food he is talking about (lol, he ate half of the dumplings while explaining the flavors). I hate when people only take a tiny bite and talks about how amazing it is, I mean, come on.. Anyway, great content here and I hope he keeps making more of those! :)
Great video. Lorn is a great addition. Love to see more of your travels and of course you making recipes. Enjoy Korea 🇰🇷.
This could be a television show... Bri, you're a natural. Great job Lorn on filming!!
I like the format in that it's true to form for what you typically post. It's the angles, details, little comments that I think most of us really enjoy and come back for again and again. Really feels like I'm there and smelling/tasting the food.
This is a masterpiece! Very good content, make more of this!
Thank you, Brian, and Lorn, for this satisfying food trip….
Please do more…
…. traveling!
Love this style of video as well. You and Lorn both have a natural charm and enthusiasm that is very easy and fun to watch, no matter what you're doing. Trust your instincts, and your audience will follow.
Thank you for this! I could almost smell everything. It looked AMAZING.
Very sad situation that happened. Condolences to the victims families. I’m happy you and Lauren are safe. I think posting this video was just fine. ❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦
As a Korean-American, I loved watching this and seeing you and your wife's deep dive into the very vast and delicious space that is Korean cuisine! Excited for you to continue to discover more.
omg my hometown! ever since i started living in Poland, it's been a while I visited Seoul myself. So good to see the view i used to see and the restaurants i used to visit again. honestly it's the first time i'm leaving a comment, but my favorite recipe is your potato salad recipe❤ all 3 of them
Thanks for the comment! Your hometown is incredible.
Enjoyed this format!!! You do an excellent job. Keep cooking for us, too, please!
Not only do I love the new, travel food blog, style content, I would love a series where you try and re-create some of these dishes for those of use who just can't get out and travel.
Wow. it's so nice seeing you enjoy korean food. All of these foods I grew up eating, especially the 호떡 (fried sweet pancake) and 설렁탕 (beef bone soup). I am really glad you enjoyed the food. Thank you for visiting chef
Thank you Brian and Lauren. Most foodies wouldn't think of Korean food, so thanks for introducing us to it. Your introduction regarding the tragedy is most thoughtful and kind. Safe travels 🙏.
Thank you so much for visiting Korea. The taste expression is very like a local. There is also a visual beauty.
감사합니다 백만 구독 가즈아~~!!!
Love this video! Love the format and learning about new Korean dishes.
Phenomenal job! Can't wait to see more videos like this!
Incredible food tour! The food, the style of filming, and the commentary all felt super accessible. Love it :)
Love the genuine appreciation for south Korea's culture. Something I would love to experience. So sad to hear about the tragedy that occurred. Wishing those who were hurt and those who lost loved ones my sympathies.
Love this type of video content and I think a great way to merge it with your normal cooking videos would be to try and recreate dishes you had on your trip.
Love the fact you took your food knowledge on a trip. You understand food better than any other food travel person on yt, so I can really get the taste of the food you are describing. Really, well done. Do this more. Also congratulations on 700k, that really grew quickly. It was slow to start going back to weeds and sardines, but thank you for persevering. Safe travels😊
You guys made my day with this video; thank you so much for taking the time out of your trip to share everything with us. Cannot tell you how much it is appreciated.
Yes please, more of these. I love learning about new cultures and cuisines but generally hate watching people eat. You and Mike Chen have proven to be the only exceptions so far. Keep up the good work!
Definitely would love to see more of these food tours on the channel. You are such a natural on camera and are great at describing food. It didn't even feel like it was your first time with the format. I think it would be great to make a blog post that details the exact location you got each item in case a viewer wants to visit that restaurant after watching your video.
Loved this episode. I hope you two make more travel vids.
Yaaaass! This video made me drool the entire time. I miss my home country and all the food goodness. I’m happy you and Lauren had a great time! I’d love to see more videos like this and you could try recreating some of them once you get back.
Glad to see you had a great time in Korea!
My wife and I, who coincidentally also has Celiac's, have been making a good amount of Korean food over the past two years, using a lot of Maang Chi's recipes. My wife absolutely crushes the bindaetteok (mung bean pancakes) I make for her, it may be her new favorite comfort food. We've also had some success with tteokbokki, jjajangmyeon, and japchae. The dangmyeon sweet potato starch cellophane noodles were a great GF option that we use in other GF stir fry dishes and soups. They are thicker than other rice noodles, don't break down easily, and have a good amount of chew/bite to them.
Anyways, glad you enjoyed your trip to Korea! Can't wait to see if this influences any of your recipe vids in the future!
I really enjoy food tourism videos. You both have a great vocabulary for describing the flavors and textures and it's enjoyable to see the two of you together enjoying and exploring a city.
I love your recipe videos but I would happily watch more of these.
Thank you for the great video.
Yes! More of this please! Also would love to know how these food trips influence your cooking at home.
Excited to see more of these! Thank you for taking the time to continue to evolve the content! Hope you guys had fun!
Love it. Thanks for posting. My family LOVES Korean food.
I love this type of format, food tours. It's a really nice break from the recipes.
Loved this video! Being on the other side of the world means we will have to live through your awesome experiences... thank you both!!
You both are amazing vloggers! Please, don't be scared to try more of this format!
I thoroughly enjoyed this! What a fun way for me to peek into a city I have always wanted to visit. I would love to watch more trip videos. Thank you to you and Lorn. 😊
I really enjoyed this episode, I haven't eaten a lot of Korean food but what I have had has been great. Every time I watch Korean food stands frying chicken I go a little bit nuts wishing I was there. Keep it up loved this one.
This was so much fun to watch! It brought back memories from my trip to South Korea 6 years ago. Definitely need to go back!
oh my god. you guys absolutely KILLED it with the selection.
there is so much more to discover but great variation from homey comfort food like jook to fast street food.
great work!
Greetings from Jacksonville Florida USA. This is really well done. You guys are naturals at this. Very interesting. Feels like I'm there with you. Kudos.
So nice to see you both enjoying Seoul's food !
And what a timing, it's a great hommage to the vibrant life of the people there, all our thoughts are with them.
Keep doing this, it's a lot of fun !
This was an amazing video. One reason I watch cooking videos on UA-cam is because I am curious about the different foods that are out there. This video satisfied this desire in a way no other cooking channel has done before. Thanks for sharing your food journey with us. I haven't really had Korean food before but I absolutely love Kimchi and used to make it myself.
I absolutely love how thoroughly you go into each dish. Such a great format. Now I can't wait to visit Korea soon.
Really, really enjoyed this format. Seeing that market, boy I’d love to go there! We always enjoy your videos, top notch 👌🏼
Thanks for sharing your personal IRL adventures with us! Really great to see all of the food options you guys encountered while you were there. Definitely would love to see more content like this!
Really simple, clear professional instructions and demonstration! Thanks!
This was a great episode! I love watching you make food I can re-create at home... but I'd love to see more of you two out exploring the world, showing us how to make something you ate.
I'm Korean and your descriptions for these dishes are on point. Couldn't describe the texture and flavor any better!
This was such a cool video! Thank you for sharing your experience eating around Korea. Hope you guys get to travel some more and eat some more amazing foods!
Korean food is divided into food from several centuries that preserves the original taste of ingredients and food that has been interpreted in a modern way.
This was an incredible video Brian, would absolutely love to see more of this kind of thing in the future.
LOVED this video. Beautiful to see the channel continue to grow so much since the Weeds and Sardines days.
You should DEFO make more vids like this with Lorn in front of the camera, too. In more countries.
Shoutout to you, BMan!
Loved this. Seeing food that I've never seen before is so interesting. I'd love to see more of these for sure.
I enjoyed watching you both exploring for delicious food. Thank you Brian. Safe travels!
I really like this kind of video from you. I honestly found this to be better than most other food vlog type videos I've seen because I think you do a much better job than most with your descriptions of the textures and flavors. Great video!
Great video tour of Korean food. Nice change of pace from all your wonderful cooking videos. Thanks!
love this editing style for a food vlog, keep it up. would be awesome to see you try and remake some of your favorite dishes you ate when you get back home. would be a cool spin.
Keep it up, Bri. I am excited to see more of these from more places, but also your take on integrating these experiences and food memories into new dishes.
Please, lots more travel and food tour videos!! I enjoyed this so much and loved hearing you explain all the flavors and textures in the different dishes.
Loved it. Food travel videos are a great idea. Keep em coming. I'm a huge fan of you guys.
I like your insights and descriptions of the food. Good to hear your perspectives and would enjoy more vids of this format
So fun watching this and seeing all the crazy different food!
Awesome video, Bri and Lorn! It was really cool to see all kinds of different dishes that we don't see much of in the US. I really enjoyed the presentation/ editing style too. It was really informative while being laid back which is always a nice combo to have when learning about new things!
This was great! I really enjoyed the food tour with you and Lorn. I really enjoy the cooking and have tried several recipes but this was a pleasant distraction. Keep it up. ❤❤
Very insightful to get your take on the foods and what they are made from, what makes them work. Loving this, hopefully we'll see more in the future!
I love this format! You can get so personal with the food and where it comes from its v v nice
Amazing adventure!! Thank you for sharing so much!! 😊
Loved it! Good job of expanding on content, Iit was done very well. Always love your recipes, have tried many and they have become our favs.
I love this format, would love more like this! Cheers B-Man!
I really liked this style of video. You are introducing cuisine that we might overlook otherwise. Keep them coming as well as your cooking videos.
Yes more please. Love Korean food
I love the recipie videos. This is a pleasent departure from those. I would love to see more and hopefully this will inspire some new recipies and flavor combinations.
Definitely a super well done food tour 👌🏼 You’ve said how particular you are about videos and I can definitely say that this one is a winner for me 👍🏼
Keep it up, Brian. You are the best at what you do. Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Thank you two!
By far the best format of a food tour I have ever seen. Great video!
Really enjoyed the video and the way you two approached it. Good stuff. Hope to see more like this in the future!
Wonderfully done- thank you for sharing your experience!
Such a fun video dude (:
You re emoji is inverted Dx
Really enjoyed this video! As someone who will probably never visit Seoul, it was awesome to get this kind of informal food tour, simulating an experience i might have if i visited. It’s like I get to take the trip from home!
B-
Fell in love with Korean cuisine during culinary school. From the Midwest meat/potato upbringing I had the flavors kick you in the ass and I loved it.
Blood sausage, rice cakes, pig foot, grilled small intestine, all the soups, lettuce wraps with Korean grilled pork are on a rotation in my house.
I would say probably 80+% of my cooking at home is Korean based or Korean influenced at this point.
Oh and breakfast without soup now is not breakfast for me.
Love this streetfood-vlog style!! Hoping to see more, bri!!
