3:08 not that there's *ANYTHING* wrong* sorry correct grammar is optional *edit:* ok so i was a little off regarding hwaa, i forgot it had like a ton of wins but probably what i was trying to say was that it took a step back from the previous shock value lion and oh my god had playing it a little “””””safer””””. i was heavily influenced by my thoughts on the comeback itself. a lot of people politely corrected me in the comments and thank you because many of you were very nice🫶🏻
The fandom has been trained to expect something different every time. The essence of (G)I-dle for me is threefold: 1. Soyeon. It can not be overstated how much of an artistic genius that woman is. She gives (G)I-dle that as you describe it "rebellious" vibe and it doesnt matter what the song is or the concept. 2. Their voices. Very distinct from each other. A (G)I-dle song is tailored to their voices because well, it isnt bought from a song writer for a girl group, it is handcrafted by Soyeon for her members. 3. The sum of them as a team is bigger than their parts. They are a unit, a tight-knit group that has gone through some bad shit together and came back stronger than ever. They actually seem to enjoy being on stage together, enjoy singing, enjoy dancing and interacting with the fans. Watching a (G)I-dle concert should be something a K-pop fan should at least do once while they are still around.
handcrafted, tailored to each members' unique distinct vocals, specially made songs by soyeon is the ultimate foundation of the group. i really love them omgggg
I went to their recent tour and omg their energy is unmatched. They put their 100% no matter how tired they were and it was such a fun experience throughout. They may not be the most synchronised group (something even they admit themselves) but they sure as hell make sure they put out a good fucking show
Because the group has the freedom to produce their own songs and have artistic freedom if they were in a big company they wouldn't be able to do everything they do in a small company. You have to tell yourself the truth that being in a big company brings a lot of stress in addition to not having artistic freedom before a certain time, that is to say being profitable for the label so after 4 or 5 years they leave you have artistic freedom see absolutely no other (YG)
@@erickacornu774big companies also give the idols the creative freedom as long as they are talented..stray kids, itzy, twice also composing their bsides..the problem is that big company idols have no talent to produce…get the talent first, you think anyone can be a producer?
@@meloelf_inarmyland1637 true....also many mushows were cancelled because of new year...hwaa has the most music show wins in 2021 tied with brave girls...charts went down after the scandal...
IDLE's concept is empowerment. And they show that empowerment can exist in many different ways. That's why their varying concepts work. Because they all feel like sub-categories of the main concept: empowerment. It ESPECIALLY works because they write their own songs. There's nothing wrong with singing songs you didn't write yourself, but it feels more genuine when you do because we can feel that they're truly singing what they are personally thinking, instead of echoing someone else's lyrics.
I'd been trying for a while to put into words why Idle can do this, and I ended up realizing that _this is their thing._ Both fandom and general public EXPECT them to switch up each time, and their theme of tackling unconventional topics through empowering lyrics can be applied in countless ways. An added benefit is how fun it is to anticipate their releases, cause you never know what you're gonna get but you're sure as hell that Soyeon will come up with something good that you haven't seen before. Note: Hwaa was actually their BIGGEST hit in the charts when it came out! It got in the top 5 on Gaon Chart and was shouted out by the president of South Korea
To me, (G)I-DLE is a once in a lifetime group! They're the reason I got into kpop (fellow Oh My God era nevie!), and the music, concepts, and members have kept me hooked for longer than any other artist ever has. They're so unapologetically daring in everything they do!
Me too, Minnie Latata thai intro on Queendom sealed the deal...her spell was and is still too strong, 'Love only me watch only me' in Thai and I cant never get out of her speII
I have to agree, after I saw them live, I truly realized that, they aren't a 4th gen girl group, they are THE 4th gen girl group and Queencard was clearly the song of last year in my books, Soyeon never disappoints with the music and the same goes for all the girls with performances, especially live 💗.
When I first watched Queendom, everyone called Gidle concept queen and I feel it’s the best way to define them. Fans and general public alike were conditioned to expect brilliance from them, in whatever form because we cannot pigeonhole them. Because they never repeat similar concept. One thing for sure, it would be powerful.
I feel like I've noticed this with both idle and skz, arguably the biggest male and female groups of their generation - and I think this plays a huge part in it The thing both nevies and stays have in common is that, 1) were always expecting something new , 2) we always *get* that something new It leaves a vast majority very engaged with the groups It also seems that the fact that both groups being self produced and being very involved with the creative process in general plays a huge part in these two groups. Also as you were saying, the lyrics to all of g-idles title tracks can be followed back to female empowerment but are all presented in various ways - you could say skz's music also follows a message of empowerment but quite obviously from a very different perspective but idk thats just me as a stay and new nevie
I so agree with this as a huge nevie and stay! We expect smth new every comeback and one thing abt gidle and skz is that any concept they have tried- they have done very well. Since they self produce their groups music it allows them to really have control over how they will do a certain sound and so they can adjust things on their own without the company and other writers making songs for them and having the group make it work.
Why i stan them? Because they never just idols, they are artistic, concept queen,. Instead of buying songs by the company for a gg, they do what they want, write what they feel, tells what they think, this is the real ARTIST. Instead of conventional K-pop ear catchy lyrics, they deliver something to their fans with their lyrics, this is what drag me to them, before this, i never fans of K-pop
their concepts may have changed but their identity and intention was always clear, and in my opinion has evolved greatly. groups without a proper identity, a proper message, etc. (who also try to push one) often get lost in concept changes because they don't adapt their message to them or embrace how a certain concept can better accentuate or sell (not monetarily speaking) their message. that's why i love idle so much, their intention is clear and they consistently find new ways to expand upon it. they know who they are and what's important for their creative artistry, they acknowledge their platform and use it in a way that's of benefit for everyone involved. i could go on forever honestly 😭 idle is the definition of adaptability and consistency through evolution (evolution sounds a bit dramatic but i'm at lack for better words). also i'm subbing
I think their constant concept switches are at the very core of what makes (G)I-dle unique. Having creative control is not going to mean much if you're always going to be tied to a certain concept. The concept of (G)I-dle is that Soyeon is a genius who loves experimenting, and everyone else brings their best game to whatever the new idea is, and all of them have that understanding among themselves. They have the confidence that it'll work out, and we have the confidence that they can pull it off!
One thing similar with their songs is that they are POWERFULL!! Not in the sense of heavy beats and stuff....Its the meaning!behind it....the way those songs make us feel !!! Their ability to connect to any of the listeners is their biggest strength....their uniqueness, different vocal colours...And of course the MASTERMIND JEON SOYEON !!
That's why we 're always looking forward to their comeback. Because they have shown things that most people don't dare to do. Right, they are speaking for many.
The thing with Idle is that since Soyeon is their main producer, she knows the girls and their group the best. So even if their songs are nothing alike, each one has similar elements which might totally go over someones head if they weren't exposed enough to Idle's music. It's the way Soyeon uses voices of girls: Soojin being seductive, Shuhua being a chameleon, Miyeon's belting emotional power, Minnie's dreamy voice, Yuqi slapping you in the face with her deep tone and Soyeon's either epic rap or a bit of whiny vical to add spice. Those are the elements that connect every piece. Even when Yuqi or Minnie write songs they also take those things into account. You can definitely tell their English album wasn't really made by the members and I was worried at first how will that even go. But turned out the songs are actually good and even tho they don't have Idle's "sound", they kept the darigness and that's why it kind of works. Btw it pains me that people dismissed Hwaa because to this day I think I Burn is their magnum opus and I will die on this hill defending it. That album is art from start to finish. And the musical connection with Hann, Alone in Winter and Hwaa just gives me eargasm each time.
OMG.. yesss... that musical connections 😍 When I sometimes play music mixes on YT, when any of those songs pop up, I immediately add the other two to play next. such a good feeling, esp when I play it in any order I want from the beginning to the end of a relationship or it'll be Future, present, past 😊 whatever order, it just works 😌
Concept change for (G) I-dle is not just *no problem" it's a must. "Change" IS the general concept. Soyeon hates repeating herself. And why should she? She has a thousand ideas in her head....
I stan a ton of kpop artists, but G-Idle is the only group where I actually listen to albums back-to-back, in the order recorded. They are truly cohesive, in a classical music sort of way (you wouldn't mix the order of movements in a sonata ) which is something that most modern music albums don't put a huge effort into. I think this comes from how Soyeon's composition and production has a solid foundation in music and arts and is not just a slap on trend bought from somewhere else or adjusting to what they think viewers want in that moment.
I was thinking about this after you itzy video omg !! i think rather than having a conceptual or musical identity idle has more of a thematic identity meaning they've established that (at least in the past few years) they tackle unconventional topics and feminism. now that I think about it it's a pretty unique approach to take and the only reason they pull it off is because they're all super talented and versatile
I also think it is because their concepts feel really genuine to them, like those are peaks at their brain and you can pin point a certain timeline for those songs, for example: Latata- They didn't had a song cause cube left their debut last minute so she took the matter into her own hands and wrote a song that people would find alluring. Lion- At that time you could sense Soyeon was so desperate to prove something she herself expressed that at the time she felt very angry and she was used to her ideas being dismissed by cube she always fought back though. Tomboy- The way male idols bullying cases are handled versus how the Soojin situation was, most of them came back to the industry and her only after years of being away, people slutshamed her and painted this weird image of her. Allergy- Soyeon at the age of 16 calling herself ugly on national television due to the comments of knets that she was talented but not pretty enough to debut, you can definitely see her growth of self-love for herself. And this are just their most easy to disect songs tittle tracks i would say, because in their to albums I Burn and I never die you can really sense their views on relationship, fame or longing, they just feel very authentic everything it's so detailed and well thought out. Sorry for the rant haha
@alexaa1187 im not a stan so I didn't know the details but this is super insightful!! it makes a lot of sense and tbh this is why I love groups that make their own music so much there's always an authenticity and personal touch to it. thank you sm for the rant omg I think i might finally have to get into idle seriously now 😭
All members of G-idle are so unique and play such a key part in and for the group indeed. but time and time again, people often forget to acknowledge Soyeon’s incredible artistry and how she basically is the reason the group exists and is doing well to this day. She was hated on for such trivial things she had little control over. She sees the potential of each member and she does everything to show case and highlight each member’s greatest asset. Ofc Soojin was such a talented member but most people tend to forget the real face of Gidle aka Soyeon. Thank you for pointing that out
(G)I-DLE is my favourite group of all time because of their versatility while still keeping their core brand, their braveness to tackle issues (reminder that this is looking at asia cause they live there) only few asian artists did before and Soyeons genius in producing/concepts. You can just sit there and make a lot of theories pre cmeback and after comeback, get a deep message of a song while it is also catchy and has easy to understand message above it to reach a broader level of people. Another drawing point is that they fully self produce and have a producer line - something not really seen before in girl groups. Others gg members mostly just co produced, or if fully producing it has been mostly b-sides. This alone is female empowerment in a system that often just had boygroup producers and fits gidles brand like a sleeve. The way they also make really thought out concepts for a comeback and sew it in everywhere - even in the teasers, promotion and trough all songs of an album is mind-blowing. Soyeon is also a genius in word play, connection. As an examle I give you what already is in the 2 teasers and in I Never die/Tomboy: In the teaser of 2, n their faces there is written "I was"/ "2.5 (their debut date)"/ "So I am I" (debut ep was named I am)". In korean, 2 also can be read as as I or so (need to look it up again). 2 can also stand for dualities. So the comeback while named 2 is technically a continuation on the I series not breaking it with a different album name. It could be also the end of the I series and a reminder to their previous releases. The teaser also has "reminder" in its name and you can see references to past choreographys. My guess is they will also tackle the issue of domestic abuse more deeply than in heat on what we seen so far in the promotion. We have seen the pre release named "Wife", sculptures, a police hat, chains in the scheduler and them making a being restrained pose in the teaser ans also having dark lips. It is complimented with the eerie vibe of the teaser. In Heat the lyrics didn´t match the mv that tackled it and we know if Soyeon writes she will give a very deep, multilayered meaning and connect it well with the mv. Note: Soyeon didn´t produced the ep Heat or had much say in it. Also, we got the Beyonce vibe in the teasers so far and Beyonce also made an album named as a number. There is just so much concept and thought put in this little promo alone that draws interest; keeps you guessing, then destroys your expectation with further promo that also fits all the pieces perfectly together and just sucks people in. As for Tomboy it has been well discussed so I dont go deep: If you don´t think much it can be about a breakup and healing from it trough I Never Die. It also has the message about female empowerment and asian girls often being restricted in relationships which was stated here. And lastly...it also stands as a view on how Gidle as a group and Soojin individually went trough the scandal and getting on their feets again. Soyeons rap also states some things Soojin was accused off. Polaroid, Escape can be interpreted as messages to Soojin. There are 6, not 5 Balloons in the Tomboy mv. Soyeon is truly one of a kind.
i would say that idles concept is confidence, empowerment and since uh-oh, feminism. i can’t wait to see what they do next! edit: see first 2 comments UPDATE: super lady fucking slayed
I feel like fans and gp also never know what to expect and its always a hit so theres trust in there too. Concept always has a message and music is always high quality. And they make the music so they always elaborate and explain for people. There is always dept and the music is just top tier. Cant go wrong with a good lore and execution!!!
I think (G)I-DLE's concept change isn't jarring because they've done so since day one. Compare LATATA to HANN. Those are the first two title tracks, and they are completely different. In short they trained fans to expect concept changes. They've never had a comeback that mirrored the previous one. I regards to Queendom, I think the only reason they didn't win was because they were the rookies, and Korea was voting. More established groups are going to have more fans regardless, but that's also not taking into account Korea's seniority system. I'm not taking anything away from the other talent, but I believe biases played a major factor. But yes, watch that show back. Every group boosted up their game when Soyeon threw the gauntlet down. Everyone started trying to top each other because (G)I-DLE (the rookies) were going hard. Soon they all started fed off each other. That's why Queendom 1 is still hailed as one of the best competition shows. You put a bunch of creative people in a room and have them all try and one-up each other and you're just going to get better and better performances. It's proven fact that after the show (G)I-DLE's Queendom clips were the most viewed, which showed they were the most popular of the show, and in terms of getting a boost of fan afterwards, they really were the winners. Everyone on that show did amazing, but (G)I-DLE was the one who capitalized off of it.
Gidle lost the battle but won the war…they have surpassed mamamoo in every category, sales, streeems, subscribers, PAK, followers, charts, everything and oh my girl peaked with 1 song and nowhere to be seen now…
@@orangedeeler The sad thing is that AOA actually was building big momentum after the show and were regaining their presence. Then Mina happened. Poor Jimin. She barely recovered her reputation, but the group is all but a memory now because of Mina's selfishness and lies. Queendom could have done a lot for AOA, who let's not forget, was once a giant group. They lost fan interest when ChoA left and Queendom somewhat reminded people that AOA was still a good group. It's really a shame.
HWAA -1st 4th gen song to top Melon real time -GAON or Circle Chart Top 5 -10 muschow wins (cancelled shows because of new year and all but still the most wins in 2021 tied with Brave Girls)
They're such an amazing group I can't put into words how forced the hate they get is but it makes sense when you think about how far they have come almost by THEMSELVES and even after the worst escandal a kpop group can have??? It's like they're unstoppable. I think kpop stans are just afraid of (G)I-DLE and with MUCH reason.
Not only Soyoen be a good song writer , but all members have strong characteristic , all have good attitude ,confident , and very good presentation skills , I no wonder why G I dle always success in every comeback ❤
casual listeners actually loved hwaa and the entire I burn ! it's known as the favorite idle comeback even for non-fans, so i think you're a little off there. you'll often find even idle antis saying they peaked at hwaa also hwaa/I burn was targeted towards Korean audiences, and it succeeded very well at that, they broke more records with hwaa than they did with any other song at the time when it came to Korean achievements :) they even charted several of their bsides on Korean charts which was practically unheard of for them hwaa is also their 5th biggest first day on Spotify (the ones ahead are all post-hiatus songs like queencard, node, I do, and allergy) and is their 5th fastest title track on Spotify to reach 20 million views (oh my god being in 4th and the difference is only 1 day, the others above are all post-hiatus songs) and "I burn" as an album had the highest pre-hiatus first week on Spotify streams ! so just a minor correction for that but good video otherwise :)
I also think that in every generation of K-pop fans there is a huge group of people. Including myself. That gets drawn to that rebellious side. That likes when groups break the mould and stan groups more based in their message and content rather than the type of music they choose to convey their message with. In every K-pop generation there are always 1-2 groups that does this. 2NE1, Bigbang and maybe 4 Minute in Gen 2. Mamamoo in Gen 3, Dreamcatcher sort of between Gen 3 and 4 and (G)i-dle and Billlie in Gen4. Thank you for a good video.
(G) idle is a group who brings confidence up, they and inspiration, when aespa changed concepts they got hate, same for Itzy but (g) idle is different.
basically, everyone expected them to change concept right after they finished a comeback. the group itself never use a same concept twice, it's always changing every comeback. Dark in Oh My God > Summer in DUMDi² > Winter in HWAA > Punk rock in Tomboy > classic-like in Nxde > Beauty in Allergy/Queencard correct me if i'm wrong
I agree with everything the only things your forget to talk about was: K/DA - This collaboration really changed the trajectory of gidle as a group and really placed them on the world stage as 4th gen leaders, the impact this song not only had on the gaming community but also the kpop community was huge, even till this day its one of the biggest songs to come out of collaboration with a game ever. This song was huge and was also a shift not only in gidles sound but also there concept as well. It really set gidle up for what would potentially be there immaculate run of singles after. Hyuna - even though this is slightly of topic but at the starts of gidles career hyuna was the biggest money maker under cube, she hard carried cube for years and it really felt like at the start of gidles career they were a product of hyuna and 4minutes later sound, but once she left you seen a shift and refocus on gidle as the main money maker under cube, there resources went from almost nothing to basically the only group under cube they cared about, meaning that for each comeback it felt like cube focused more and more on there concept and gidles future then any artist under cube and gidle rightfully deserves it. CLC - although in the later years of CLCs career there concepts almost started to align and CLC and gidles concepts and songs were very similar in almsot an uncanny way once CLC dropped from Cubes radder cube sadly focused all there attention on Gidle which was great for gidle but sad for CLC, i really loved gidle and CLCs interaction as a junior and senior girl group as well so cute togther and soyeon and yeeun have almost the same tone and delivery in the way they rap as well, but you definitely could say the clcs darker concepts were concepts that gidle could have gotten had clc not been around before them.
HWAA was my absolute favourite title track !!!! It's so damn good ... It was well taken...it had the most music show wins(10) until then !!! So it wasn't that it didn't have listeners tuning in it's just that it wasn't as trendy as their previous ones during that time ....
FINALLY someone discussing about and appreciating their versatility and concept changes! While on the topic, I'll actually list all their title tracks and how cool it is that they have covered so many concepts thematically and sonically: Note, these are only the title tracks. They have tried even more genres and concepts in their b-side tracks, english and japanese albums, concert performances, track videos (My Bag, Never Stop Me and Dark X-File) and solo releases. Give them a listen! LATATA - tropical, gypsy and nature (concept) with the track being of moombahton genre HANN - mystical, ancient, slight arabic influences (concept) and moombahton with a bit of edm (genre) Señorita - spanish and dangerously romantic (concept) and saxophone and guitar led dance pop (genre) Uh-oh - 90s chicana, female hip hop era (concept) and 90s boom bap beats (genre) LION - renaissance and majestic concept inspired by the lion king (concept) and emotional acoustic led dance pop (genre) Oh my god - this one is a bit confusing because they used lots of snake imagery and 1920s vintage styles for the I Trust photoshoots but we'll go with sinful demons (concept) and experimental edm trap (genre) i'M THE TREND - no concept but I wish they used a 1930s aesthetic due to the track sounding very jazzy pop with ragdoll influences Dumdi Dumdi - inspired by zootopia, western movies and summer time (concept) and moombahton (genre) Hwaa - traditional korean stylings and winter (concept) and moombahton (genre) Last Dance - not considered as a title track but it was a Universe track influenced by magical forests, fairies, nymphs and celestial entities (concept) and deep house (genre) produced by Groovyroom TOMBOY - late 90s to early 2000s punk rock bands, Tim Burton batman movies (concept) and punk rock, pop (genre) Nxde - 1920s flapper styles, 1930s to 1950s Hollywood golden era including Marilyn Monroe and a hint of Betty Boop, rubberhose animation (concept) and big band jazzy trap, glitch swing (genre) Queencard and the pre-release song Allergy - 2000s chick flick movies, pink y2k aesthetics and noughties, vh1 channel (concept) and dance pop with slight rock (genre) 2 - their upcoming album and so far, we got a creepy dark Dune inspired trailer, bedazzled 2nd gen sets, snowy winter and goddess statue aesthetics for the album concept teaser photos. The main mv concept should be somewhat related to the ones listed but I'm really hoping they're inspired by 2nd gen and lady gaga!
One major factor is because they did not debut themselves as a group that had a concept which would have reduced their chances at versatility and change.
@user-qs4pp9cj9q well ofc any concept is worthless if the music is crap. It gives off the feeling that there wasn't any passion into creating it which is a massive turn-off.
i am a casual listener of (g)i-dle. I think the first song i heard of them was tomboy (right after i got interested in kpop) since it was viral amongst every fandom, it wasnt much of my taste tho. then with nxde, i heard a lot about it, saw some clips here and there. It was a good meaningful song but i was too busy with my ult group's comeback and balancing my uni life, i didnt pay to much attention to it. late 2022- early 2023 was when i heard Hwaa for the first time and i instantly fell in love. It had such an unique sound that i was so suprised idle had a song like this (not that the ones i listed before were not good but for me hwaa is out of this world). After some time i found myself listening to them more and more and that was when Queencard was released. At first i didnt like the song at all lol. It was just catchy meaningless words, MV seem ridiculous too (I feel so bad typing these rn 😖) but after seeing the stages and paying attention to the lyrics i realized the power and courage that other songs had were still very much present. It is a funny song, thats for sure but i guess this is what it makes it so good. the song is like 3min instant noodles for confidence boost. there are lots of times that i just find myself going "i am a queencard you wanna be a queencard" and being confident and happy doing my silly little dance. And for me this is what g-idle is and why they can pull off any concept. No matter what they do confidence and encouragement is always there.
Im looking forward to their comeback soon. I love G-idle. I became interested almost a year ago now, and when allergy came out i said omg and i went through their whole discography and loved itttt. Queencard i was obsessed with for awhile. The problem is they really lost me with the most recent comeback and the Heat ep. I didnt like "i want that" or "i do" or the b sides really besides eyes roll. I really do adore Soyeon so much. She as a person fascinates me and she is my Ult, even if i dont stan g-idle currently as much as i want to. She is amazing, and its sad but i honestly think she would be on the highest of pedastals if she was pretty to the knetz 😢. It makes me so sad. I think she is beyond gorgeous but i know knetz dont think so.
Heat is just a side gig…no promo, no stage or dance performance or mushow or challenges with other idols..its just a side gig with 88rising for another market
It's all bc of soyeon, she mentioned in queen dome ep before introducing Lion that she is involved in everything the concept and the MV it's all her, not just the music I think also choosing the pple working with her so CUBE gave her full control over the group and the members trust her completely (good for them bc this company suck), that gave her the confidence and the freedom needed to be an artiste not just working idol who has no control or saying over anything, I compare her with G Dragon cause at the time they were also different, and if it wasn't for him there won't be Bigbang YG has nothing to do with their success it was all him, so I agree with u nice video BTY
I feel like their Changing the concept but not the meaning as the meaning still related to one another like I trust and I bun both have a sinister and a sad meaning I love and I feel comeback with feminism and missing the old time like change and and paradise and the first two mini albums give out the start as with the hip hop theme with them
tomboy, nxde, and queencard is pretty much a grandslam of hits. all of those were charting really well. probably the first group i’ve seen to chart well with three comebacks in a row
I hear all this talk of other groups and how the fans are mad at them for switchin up their concept, and this made me realize that I have never heard that with idle. Honestly this group and the energy of their music is extremely refreshing in the kpop industry. I do have another opinion that as a fan of many groups some (probably fans that are not a fan of idle) people will not agree with. I think their success is very much a testament of the importance of artistry, the fact that we know these are the idol's words makes it that much more impactful. Music production is hard, I know, but you would think that with music being a medium of art, music production would be a bigger standard. Not everyone needs to be able to produce, and Soyeon's ability to not only tailor the music to perfectly fit her group, but make it a masterpiece so consistently is hard to come by, but just the act of writing your own song or trying to connect yourself with what you are singing dancing or rapping I think will make it a better performance. It really shouldn't just be about learning the dance, looking pretty, hitting the notes. Obviously, other than directly writing the music there are other ways of self-expression and honing your craft, but I feel like the genuine passion for music that would warrant them spending hours making a song their own, is quite frankly lacking, you are being called an artist for it, live up to it. Not every song needs to be deep and emotional but for an art, music should in some sense be an outlet to tell your story. I know that will probably not be possible because companies want a group to make them money quick and giving the artists training and the time to be creative and genuine will just, eat away at their immediate profits, but it is sad to see this trend of less and less self-produced idols, especially with kpop influencing a lot of the east asian music sphere and the idol culture growing. as an asian american I enjoy east Asian music because at times its something that connects me back to my roots, obviously kpop is very inspired by western music but if you really notice it certain values differ and also east Asia is rich in culture so inclusions of things like ethnic instruments or sound, certain sentimental themes, and the languages themselves seem to resonate with me more than some pop music(i am still a fan though, of some pop, my music taste is pretty basic, especially for an artist). I really want to see this kind of artistry and message in K-pop and other east asian music that tell me about their story or values.
@user-qs4pp9cj9q real, that is another reason for their success, not everyone can pull it off. I know I said that its good for artists to contribute as artists to their music, but there is a difference between having your name on the credits and your voice or message as an artist emulating through your creation. obviously, all of the idle members contribute greatly to the group, and their performances are that of the group after all, this message of girls making music for girls is embodied in every one of the members, personally, I love Yuqi's vocal tone, clearly. however, when talking about having an artistic voice, I do have to commend Soyeon, i think it is at the very least partially because of a lot of her confidence, convictions, and producing aptitude that the group as a whole was able to find their voice and what works for them
es el analisis mas hermoso que eh visto de Gidle y como army eh estado enamorado por años de ellas por ese coraje, ese valor y esa mente maestra que nos deja canciones con mensajes tan profundos e iconicos
Groups like NCT Dream, Red Velvet and GIdle don't have a fix concept so that's why they slay any concept. The thing os SM are known for their experimental music sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. But GIdle are a little different, even thought they do experiment with concepts and music it somehow also work for them, because Soyeon knows that she want and she even said said that when the company don't like it that when she knew it was going to a hit. She really deserve the genius producer title, and lets not forget Minnie and Yuqi, who also contribute to their music and songs, these girls are all amazingly talented, and I find it amat how the members fully trust Soyeon, if they don't trusted Soyeon this much I don't think it will always work out for them, for me I see that trust turn into motivation for Soyeon and want to do better evey comeback
Okay but Senorita is underrated like HELL. It seems like ya'll just used to think that it's an ordinary love song, weak in its banality, and you just don't even try to think about it. It's not about seduction, it's about self-destruction. The lyrical heroine doesn't care who she loves, she doesn't even remember his name and does not really want to reveal her own to him, she knows that it will not last long, let him call her Senorita. She hysterically wants to experience some strong feelings in order to drown out some of her suffering and anxiety, and as such she chose this parody of love. In the clip, we not only see how everything around us is collapsing, but also how the members themselves are practically trying to commit suicide, but with a self-confident expression on their faces. The lyrical heroine does not understand that she is killing herself, then she drowns in this abyss of unreliable connections. All this can be seen in the video and heard in the lyrics if you just stop perceiving Senorita as "just a weak release from gidle"
The reason why the changes of concept is not a struggle for them its because they are the ones choosing of what concepts they are going to put up... they have no bad title track at all because so far each title tracks won atleast 1 music show... every single comeback they have they always upgrade... their direction when it comes to their concept is what ever they want...
Even just the boldness to title the album I never die to follow up the scandal is forever icon and so well calculated- sure if it failed it would have been embarrassing, but committing to it (and the the group) says alot about soyeon
it’s one thing to dislike a concept/sound and blame the company and another to know that the idol wrote composed arranged the song AND is also their own creative director.
people love good music & concept while other group try to switch concept at some of their comeback, they fail to create good catchy music, G-idle overall never fail to create both their music & concept, and + they are savage, audiences love savageness, especially international audiences And lately G-idle become much bolder..
As a Taiwanese, I like G-Idle not only because the Taiwanese member Shuhua, I like G-Idle also there MVs and Songs have stories!!! They are not like traditional K-pop, U only can see gorgeous dance、hear K-pop style rhythm and cool raps!!! I don’t mean to attack the most famous K-pop female group BlackPink, but I really can’t see soul in their MVs & Songs, I even don't have any special impression of their albums... I think many K-pop fans are too focus on dance and rhythm of songs but forget the essence of MVs & songs... But not only G-Idle, I also saw some stories in MVs of new female group NewJeans, it seems interesting....
FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT!! They’re engaging because they keep you on your toes, they break every standard that K-pop girl group have, and there rebels through lyrics!!
I always feel like there is some queer or drag element in all their concept, with Dumdi dumdi being the weakest one in term of that specific vibe (imo). It's always like "let's take this concept and play with it" type of energy, like they know what they're doing with each concept. So I think that's the "drag" element of it I think. Another big factor is Soyeon. She is the biggest influence in their music. She feels like she has clear sense of direction as an artist who produce and her intense empowerment or confident she exhibit in each song really sell it. It always feels like she own that concept, like the concept feels like it's her "conception." Her having a big hand in producing all the title tracks probably contribute to that fact. All their concept are also pretty cool in the way it's presented. They don't feel like they're chasing trends with each "drag" they're doing, but more inspired by vibes or moods which gave them something they (or soyeon) wanted to say. But I think the takeaway is Soyeon's presence within the group's music.
Btw, I actually love Hwaa ver much. I like its lowkey energy and the "orientalism" concept of it. It might not hit as hard as Lion or OMG, but I always view the song as a bit of a return to form of g-idle, like a review of their identity, especially so in retrospection since it's the last song with Soojin and a departure amd evolution of g-idle concept into the next stage.
3:08 not that there's *ANYTHING* wrong* sorry correct grammar is optional
*edit:* ok so i was a little off regarding hwaa, i forgot it had like a ton of wins but probably what i was trying to say was that it took a step back from the previous shock value lion and oh my god had playing it a little “””””safer””””. i was heavily influenced by my thoughts on the comeback itself. a lot of people politely corrected me in the comments and thank you because many of you were very nice🫶🏻
Intro song plsss???!!!?!
@@osvald860 It's IVE - I AM (NORJAX Remix) ^^
@@YRSHKD THANK YOU!!!
The fandom has been trained to expect something different every time.
The essence of (G)I-dle for me is threefold:
You summed it up and explained it so well
I went to their recent tour and omg their energy is unmatched.
Just to state, HWAA earned 10 crowns 👑 itself, the most win at that time for GIDLE on music shows in Korea
I think Hwaa would’ve done better too if the fake scandal didn’t end up happening so thereafter
@@meloelf_inarmyland1637 definitely. Hwaa was the first song ever by a 4th gen group to reach top 10 in MelOn
Yeah, it was only after those rumors began to circulate that Hwaa ended up doing worse. People loved HWAA because of the beautiful lyrics and sound.
This guy saying HWAA was poorly received, lol. WTF is he talking about?
I feel like I've noticed this with both idle and skz, arguably the biggest male and female groups of their generation - and I think this plays a huge part in it
The thing both nevies and stays have in common is that, 1) were always expecting something new , 2) we always *get* that something new
It leaves a vast majority very engaged with the groups
It also seems that the fact that both groups being self produced and being very involved with the creative process in general plays a huge part in these two groups. Also as you were saying, the lyrics to all of g-idles title tracks can be followed back to female empowerment but are all presented in various ways - you could say skz's music also follows a message of empowerment but quite obviously from a very different perspective
but idk thats just me as a stay and new nevie
the self-production is indeed a very big factor, you're right
I so agree with this as a huge nevie and stay! We expect smth new every comeback and one thing abt gidle and skz is that any concept they have tried- they have done very well. Since they self produce their groups music it allows them to really have control over how they will do a certain sound and so they can adjust things on their own without the company and other writers making songs for them and having the group make it work.
Yes if you like (G)I-DLE you will definitely love Skz too
Love all the Skzidle love in the comments
Wife was SO unexpected 😭😭 but I loved it, as any goofy ass song
same.. had a blast watching the mv 😊
wife is so CAMPYYY i love it
Why i stan them? Because they never just idols, they are artistic, concept queen,. Instead of buying songs by the company for a gg, they do what they want, write what they feel, tells what they think, this is the real ARTIST.
Instead of conventional K-pop ear catchy lyrics, they deliver something to their fans with their lyrics, this is what drag me to them, before this, i never fans of K-pop
YES
their concepts may have changed but their identity and intention was always clear, and in my opinion has evolved greatly. groups without a proper identity, a proper message, etc.
HWAA was the first full (G)I-DLE MV I watched and God the rest was an history I fell in love with them so much (KDA was my introduction to (G)I-DLE)
And the musical connection with Hann, Alone in Winter and Hwaa just gives me eargasm each time.
slapping you in the face hahahahhaha i love how you describe it
OMG.. yesss... that musical connections 😍
When I sometimes play music mixes on YT, when any of those songs pop up, I immediately add the other two to play next. such a good feeling, esp when I play it in any order I want from the beginning to the end of a relationship or it'll be Future, present, past 😊 whatever order, it just works 😌
indeed!! and i totally agree about Hwaa, its a masterpiece
how is shuhua a chameleon? no hate just asking😁
Simple. Their concept IS changing concepts.
Concept change for (G) I-dle is not just *no problem" it's a must.
"Change" IS the general concept.
Soyeon hates repeating herself.
And why should she?
She has a thousand ideas in her head....
The "Lion" Queendom performance was what made me Neverland.
I also think it is because their concepts feel really genuine to them, like those are peaks at their brain and you can pin point a certain timeline for those songs, for example:
Latata- They didn't had a song cause cube left their debut last minute so she took the matter into her own hands and wrote a song that people would find alluring.
@alexaa1187 im not a stan so I didn't know the details but this is super insightful!! it makes a lot of sense and tbh this is why I love groups that make their own music so much there's always an authenticity and personal touch to it. thank you sm for the rant omg I think i might finally have to get into idle seriously now 😭
@@aarushi9411stan gidle, no regret
All members of G-idle are so unique and play such a key part in and for the group indeed. but time and time again, people often forget to acknowledge Soyeon’s incredible artistry and how she basically is the reason the group exists and is doing well to this day. She was hated on for such trivial things she had little control over. She sees the potential of each member and she does everything to show case and highlight each member’s greatest asset. Ofc Soojin was such a talented member but most people tend to forget the real face of Gidle aka Soyeon. Thank you for pointing that out
The reason why them changing concept was never a problem is because, they never half-ass their concepts.
2-Word Summary: *INCREDIBLE MUSIC*
As an examle I give you what already is in the 2 teasers and in I Never die/Tomboy:
In the teaser of 2, n their faces there is written "I was"/ "2.5 (their debut date)"/ "So I am I" (debut ep was named I am)".
As for Tomboy it has been well discussed so I dont go deep:
If you don´t think much it can be about a breakup and healing from it trough I Never Die.
Hwaa shooked me. I didn't think I'd like this type of concept but it's one of my favorites.💜
It’s legendary
"Only smart people love woman" I choked
i would say that idles concept is confidence, empowerment and since uh-oh, feminism. i can’t wait to see what they do next!

What i really love from gidle's crafts are their songwriting and direction in the MV. So good.
They just never failed cause their power point is just being themselves
I feel like fans and gp also never know what to expect and its always a hit so theres trust in there too. Concept always has a message and music is always high quality. And they make the music so they always elaborate and explain for people. There is always dept and the music is just top tier. Cant go wrong with a good lore and execution!!!
side note: Miyeon fancam slaay omg i can’t stop adoring her
I love seeing new fresh concept from them. They keep me waiting in every comeback just to see what massages they gonna say through their songs
@user-qs4pp9cj9q Thanks for correcting me. I don't know how I typoed that twice!

Changing concepts every comeback just suits them so well
Idle to me are one of the only groups that actually love each other not as “members” but as actual family this is a huge part to how good they are
Not only Soyoen be a good song writer , but all members have strong characteristic , all have good attitude ,confident , and very good presentation skills , I no wonder why G I dle always success in every comeback ❤
Never a dull moment for (G) I-dLe and the Neverland!!
loving your new ideas regarding groups and their discographies, keep shining buddy and keep uploading new content :)
(g)i-dle should have won queendom season 1👑 That's the hill I'm still standing on🔥
Because they are (G)I-dle
the only group I can think of that have a different concept in each comeback is ONEUS 🔥🔥🔥
I can't explain why, but I'm sure that any song they release I'll like. 💜
3:53 literally perfect explanation right there
KDA was my entry to them, 2018-2020 really made it for me, thank you Akali and Ahri, I met (G)I-DLE
I like to say that switching concepts for every album IS (G)I-dles concept
idle is unique
It is adorable and very special group ❤ love them 💗💗💗💗
because they always eat it up, simple as that
casual listeners actually loved hwaa and the entire I burn ! it's known as the favorite idle comeback even for non-fans, so i think you're a little off there. you'll often find even idle antis saying they peaked at hwaa
also hwaa/I burn was targeted towards Korean audiences, and it succeeded very well at that, they broke more records with hwaa than they did with any other song at the time when it came to Korean achievements :) they even charted several of their bsides on Korean charts which was practically unheard of for them
hwaa is also their 5th biggest first day on Spotify (the ones ahead are all post-hiatus songs like queencard, node, I do, and allergy) and is their 5th fastest title track on Spotify to reach 20 million views (oh my god being in 4th and the difference is only 1 day, the others above are all post-hiatus songs) and "I burn" as an album had the highest pre-hiatus first week on Spotify streams !
so just a minor correction for that but good video otherwise :)
Changing a concept shouldn't be a problem for anyone. I don't know why it's so hard for everyone to grasp
Thanks for the video….it makes a lot of sense….and now I do not have to explain myself why I Stan them. Instead I have the link of this video…lol
Hwaa did well initially until the Soojin situation came up soon after. People kinda left after the scandal.
basically, everyone expected them to change concept right after they finished a comeback. the group itself never use a same concept twice, it's always changing every comeback.
Dark in Oh My God > Summer in DUMDi² > Winter in HWAA > Punk rock in Tomboy > classic-like in Nxde > Beauty in Allergy/Queencard
correct me if i'm wrong
I agree with everything the only things your forget to talk about was:
K/DA - This collaboration really changed the trajectory of gidle as a group and really placed them on the world stage as 4th gen leaders, the impact this song not only had on the gaming community but also the kpop community was huge, even till this day its one of the biggest songs to come out of collaboration with a game ever.
Excellent analysis. Well thought out, honest, and I think speaks truth.
While on the topic, I'll actually list all their title tracks and how cool it is that they have covered so many concepts thematically and sonically:
Note, these are only the title tracks. They have tried even more genres and concepts in their b-side tracks, english and japanese albums, concert performances, track videos (My Bag, Never Stop Me and Dark X-File) and solo releases. Give them a listen!
LATATA - tropical, gypsy and nature (concept) with the track being of moombahton genre
HANN - mystical, ancient, slight arabic influences (concept) and moombahton with a bit of edm (genre)
Señorita - spanish and dangerously romantic (concept) and saxophone and guitar led dance pop (genre)
Uh-oh - 90s chicana, female hip hop era (concept) and 90s boom bap beats (genre)
LION - renaissance and majestic concept inspired by the lion king (concept) and emotional acoustic led dance pop (genre)
Oh my god - this one is a bit confusing because they used lots of snake imagery and 1920s vintage styles for the I Trust photoshoots but we'll go with sinful demons (concept) and experimental edm trap (genre)
i'M THE TREND - no concept but I wish they used a 1930s aesthetic due to the track sounding very jazzy pop with ragdoll influences
Dumdi Dumdi - inspired by zootopia, western movies and summer time (concept) and moombahton (genre)
Hwaa - traditional korean stylings and winter (concept) and moombahton (genre)
Last Dance - not considered as a title track but it was a Universe track influenced by magical forests, fairies, nymphs and celestial entities (concept) and deep house (genre) produced by Groovyroom
TOMBOY - late 90s to early 2000s punk rock bands, Tim Burton batman movies (concept) and punk rock, pop (genre)
Nxde - 1920s flapper styles, 1930s to 1950s Hollywood golden era including Marilyn Monroe and a hint of Betty Boop, rubberhose animation (concept) and big band jazzy trap, glitch swing (genre)
Queencard and the pre-release song Allergy - 2000s chick flick movies, pink y2k aesthetics and noughties, vh1 channel (concept) and dance pop with slight rock (genre)
2 - their upcoming album and so far, we got a creepy dark Dune inspired trailer, bedazzled 2nd gen sets, snowy winter and goddess statue aesthetics for the album concept teaser photos.
Heat was not produced by gidle forget it and have faith in gidle for next album
losing it at you "already having an idea" of what wife was gonna be. yeah talk about a concept change lol
lmao but yeah i feel like i knew what the song was gonna be about at least….👀
I feel free to strongly AGREED with you
I feel like their Changing the concept but not the meaning as the meaning still related to one another like I trust and I bun both have a sinister and a sad meaning I love and I feel comeback with feminism and missing the old time like change and and paradise and the first two mini albums give out the start as with the hip hop theme with them
tomboy, nxde, and queencard is pretty much a grandslam of hits. all of those were charting really well. probably the first group i’ve seen to chart well with three comebacks in a row
(g)i-dle embodiment of the dare to be different motto
I love I-DLE!!!❤❤❤❤❤
I know I said that its good for artists to contribute as artists to their music, but there is a difference between having your name on the credits and your voice or message as an artist emulating through your creation.
obviously, all of the idle members contribute greatly to the group, and their performances are that of the group after all, this message of girls making music for girls is embodied in every one of the members, personally, I love Yuqi's vocal tone, clearly. however, when talking about having an artistic voice, I do have to commend Soyeon, i think it is at the very least partially because of a lot of her confidence, convictions, and producing aptitude that the group as a whole was able to find their voice and what works for them
❤BLACKPINK❤
❤GIDLE❤
Lion end Hwaaa is songs wat total bring may intres for GIDLE ...end for my Hwaa is 1 of best GIDLE song
best group ever
es el analisis mas hermoso que eh visto de Gidle y como army eh estado enamorado por años de ellas por ese coraje, ese valor y esa mente maestra que nos deja canciones con mensajes tan profundos e iconicos
ngl they’re literally the only group that I can actually enjoy and listen to their songs repeatedly without getting bored
On Queendom i think the favorites are Mamamoo, Idle and Oh my girl too
Gitta remember when lion and oh my god sounded a bit same, people were mad, its EXPECTED of them to have something different
I believe uh-oh is there most underrated song
No matter what song they release it still sounds like (G)I-DLE
The reason why the changes of concept is not a struggle for them its because they are the ones choosing of what concepts they are going to put up... they have no bad title track at all because so far each title tracks won atleast 1 music show... every single comeback they have they always upgrade... their direction when it comes to their concept is what ever they want...
Even just the boldness to title the album I never die to follow up the scandal is forever icon and so well calculated- sure if it failed it would have been embarrassing, but committing to it (and the the group) says alot about soyeon
it’s one thing to dislike a concept/sound and blame the company and another to know that the idol wrote composed arranged the song AND is also their own creative director.
people love good music & concept
while other group try to switch concept at some of their comeback, they fail to create good catchy music,
G-idle overall never fail to create both their music & concept, and + they are savage, audiences love savageness, especially international audiences
And lately G-idle become much bolder..
WOW Miyeon on this 0:50 clips looks so much hapyy performing and i really feels good with that
I thought I was the only one denying the existence of “Last Dance” and I’m so glad I’m not
watching this after wife dropped and omg everything you said was so right
(G)I-DLE is freedom.
MASTERPIECE! GIDLE 👑👑👑
I am kinda a casual listener and i am so glad seeing good artists like soyeon thrive
Soyeon also said she doesn’t wanna do the same thing twice
You hit the nail
Okay but lets put my bagggggg full volume
