Don't most parents have flaws... Sadly for them they were just very public flaws in high pressure roles. And both were not well equipped to deal with their issues and trauma.

There’s different kinds of “not a good mother”. I’m sure all make mistakes. But the entitlement she flooded Harry with and the lack of discipline is disgusting. They all watched as he ran his bike over and over the toes of a man. She called him good king Harry … setting him up to be “difficult”. I do feel she and Charles created this monster. Had she lived Harry would still be mean and vindictive. He’d just blame her and Charles for his misfortune. I’m mean come on. This was a kid who couldn’t pass art. Dumb.

Instead of protecting and comcforting the children, Diana often searched comfort in her kids and changed the parent-children-dynamic. She did this to William and to Harry.

more to William as the older and by far the more intelligent of the two
I always thought she was unstable and very difficult ., though charming and with a genuine need to do some good.
Pretty much what I thought though I did not follow the drama being too busy with my own busy and complex life
      Now I have spare time.

In Tina Brown’s book ‘Diana Chronicles’ she made the point that she felt she had ‘lost William to HMTQ and Charles, but bragged that Harry is still my baby.’
Diana loved them but her own lack of love and healthy attention as a child gave her an over emotionalism that might have, given a chance, to even out as she got older.

Agree and all these years later he is still getting attacked by it. People have put Diana on a pedestal like Harry, she was not perfect nobody is. It takes two people for a marriage to work. I remember media kept going at Charles about when will he get married and produce these heirs. I read that he wanted to marry Camilla but deemed not suitable, Diana was young and had no past was it kinda of arranged who knows but think he did love her in his way. She was vulnerable and came from a broken home this could have been her way of a safe house.

I’m NOT saying Diana is a narcissist like MeGain or a liar like her, however, as a former staunch supporter of Diana, since MeGain made the scene a lot has come out about Diana, in part due to H & M that puts Diana in a more human but much less admirable light. That backfired for the dastardly duo.

When you spoke about Diana and her dresser and how she would berate her for an hour it made me think on how Harry and Meghan where described about the same thing with their team when they were still in the Royal Family. How they would call non stop their employees on the phone and scold them about their actions and questioning them about "what were you thinking?" Absolutely horrible really but apparently at least Harry had a precedent for that behavior

  • @Jasmine-he2fq

A friend of my mum's made a dress for Diana over the course of a few months in the 90s after she'd separated from Charles. They used to gossip over tea about the horrors of a visit to London to see Diana and I used to listen in to their chat! On the first visit all the staff were gathered together to witness Diana shouting horribly at a male member of staff who was visibly upset. Apparently it was awful. On the next visit Diana refused to come out of her room and locked herself in. 'Having one of her tantrums' the staff said. Apparently if things didn't go D's way she was prone to threatening to throw herself down the stairs or would cut herself or threaten to. 'Look what you've done, look what you've made me do'. The staff relationship seemed to have really soured and they were living with very difficult conditions and ready to complain to a newcomer. The gossip was that during the time you describe Charles gave up many of his friends to try and please D as she was jealous. He also at one point gave up a yellow Labrador dog as D was concerned Charles loved it more than her. But no matter what he did it was never enough. She was also paranoid and distrustful of psychiatric help which Charles tried to encourage. Also the more unkind gossip was that Diana chose her charity work in order to get maximum attention and press coverage whereas Charles often did more but did it more quietly. Too much attention was never enough for D was the feeling. I think the feeling was that you could try and try with her, but she would not, or could not be happy and always felt unloved. Very sad but also exhausting for those around her and that's why Charles gave up in the end. We did not use the word in those days but I think these days we might call her a narcissist. She certainly tried hard to control those around her it seems. I've often wondered if Harry 'married his mother' as they say. Or if he is his mother. Or both. H and M certainly love attention and feel very hard done by just like Diana.

Thank you. Of course I don't know if any of this gossip was true and I'm sure there's two sides to every story but I was interested hearing it as a teen. Then Diana died and everyone really thought of her as a sort of saint. I went to see the flowers in London as I was working there myself then. Very sad. When people die young... well it's so tragic. Charles was probably not easy either I don't really know. But it's always made me a little sad the way he was vilified and made fun of over the years because even without that gossip I never liked to see one parent get on tv and trash the other parent the way Diana did, particularly when the other parent can't defend themselves. Certain types of people seem to be so good at making others look bad when actually when you look at their own behaviour you do wonder! Not very nice for her boys I thought at the time. I did actually read in some newspapers that Diana could be violent towards Charles if she was in a passion. I read she threw a heavy Bible at his head causing a bleeding wound on their honeymoon. Who knows if true? I suppose I always gave more credence to those stories than the average person because of what I'd heard, so it made me think she might be capable of it. But of course newspapers don't always tell the truth! And she's not here to defend herself. I also can't dismiss the wonderful work she did for AIDS victims. Truly a controversial cause and she stuck her neck out to bring the sufferers into the everyday man's consciousness. She may have been flawed and had her struggles but she really did make a difference. Truly a complex character.@@thevintageread

Anyone who has had a BPD in his life knows what a total roller coaster, whip lash hell it can be. They are bottomless pits of neediness, drama, and they are exhausting. Viewing from the outside, we couldn’t understand how Charles could possibly prefer frumpy Camilla to the dazzling Diana. Of course, all we saw were the photos and fabulous jewels and clothes. Diana's bulimia was the root cause of all her crying. She used to .lock herself into a bathroom and had huge crying jags while on honeymoon. It has an enormous impact on emotions. Yet she refused to cooperate with any of the therapists or to acknowledge that she had a problem and put all her bad feelings squarely at Charles's feet. At the time described in the book, she was already into her third affair.

People from broken families have issues often. You never really know what issues they develop but family feuds never do the children much good. The most remarkable thing in Wendy Berry's book is Paddy Whiteland (Servant) saying when Harry was only 2 or 3 "The earlier he gets rid of this one, the better". Diana's fate was sealed.

At the time I had no idea what she meant and couldn’t understand why she was not a fan of such a beautiful woman with such a great wardrobe. I was younger and in that stage of life where cosmetics and fashion are very important. Now, looking back, I understand that Dianna, as wonderful as she was, was a very damaged woman who was very manipulative with the press. My Mum was hearing more of the other side of Diana that was not shown in the media. Now after years of being involved with people navigating divorce, I have to wonder how much the boys heard about how horrible their Father was? Perhaps Harry found a way to get his Mum’s attention if he agreed.

oh 100% Diana was smearing Charles to the kids. Based on everything I've heard of her and her own behaviour, I have no doubt she's be that vindictive. It was said that William had a challenging relationship with Charles, and I'm sure that was him as a teenager and pre-teen taking his mother's side in part because what she was filling his ears with... now that Diana is gone and William is grown and a father himself, I think he has a much clearer vision of who Charles is. The family life at Highgrove sounds like absolute hell for all concerned. But frankly, Diana sounds like a psychological nightmare. Her expectations of marriage, and of Charles, were probably hopelessly unrealistic from the start due to her personality and childhood experiences, and he was never going to fulfil her ideals of perfection. She was clearly very manipulative, and not the saint of popular perception, and it is easy to imagine how H probably finds M's histrionics quite appealingly familiar.

In addition to your thoughts on Harry (sitting on Diana's lap), a couple of things pop out for me. First, knowing the trauma the young Princes were subjected to by Diana might account for Princess Catherine's focus on children from birth to 5 years. (My snarky snippet - might also account for Catherine not being as "active" as some of the other royals...staying home to provide emotional and physical care for her children). Moving on, the second thing. I find it interesting Diana hated Balmora and guess who else does? Meghan simply reincarnated herself into Diana and frankly, I think she truly BELIEVES she is. Harry did but that may be waning.

Because Diana worked in a setting with small children before she married Prince Charles there was an assumption that she would also be a good mother. I don't think she was as good as the public was led to believe. Diana had serious emotional issues. She had narcissistic traits that clashed with Prince Charles' narcissistic traits. She wanted attention at all times and did things out in public with Charles to pull attention to herself. She was emotionally immature. She bullied staff. As for letting her boys "grow up normal," given who they were, that was impossible, just another Diana PR puff piece. Harry has false memories of what he thinks took place. But there's no denying the negative impact when a small child watches his mother cry every day. Diana was good at being pitiful and eliciting sympathy. Love your videos and you have a great voice for telling the stories!

Knowing these details about Diana and Charles marriage based on staff perspective makes me think that I dont think that even without Camilla there, it would have worked out between Diana and Charles. Mostly because of their different personalities. While opposites sometimes do attract, I dont think it applies in their case. I think their differing personalities would have slowly corroded their marriage to the point where they would have eventually cheated on one another just to find some solace from their miserable marriage. I think divorce was the best thing for them, for the sake of their kids and their sanity.

yes, it was never going to work. They were just too different and sadly one of their few similar traits was that they both had difficult childhoods and they both needed a supportive partner, but weren't really cut out to be that for each other. Charles' heart may have always belonged to Camilla, but he said he didn't stray until the marriage with Diana was already in shambles. He resumed the physical and romantic relationship as a way to seek happiness out of all the misery the marriage was causing them both. Diana also stepped out first, apparently, and with several men. I guess if she was miserable this was one way for her to feel desired and hopeful.

@@kellimoore4488 Diana grew up with an absentee mother, who took off to Argentina after the divorce, when she needed mothering the most. Then she spent her growing up years in boarding school. I think Rachel Ragland probably had similar issues, with her mother gone during critical growing-up years, with her Dad trying to fill the void. I feel for him. My son's grew up fatherless, my family lived a good distance away so were not available and they had issues of their own, and I found it impossible to fill his shoes. Looked into Big Brother organization, but at the time, there were a few sexual abuse cases going on in that organization in my town, so scratch that idea. Thought about marrying again, but that opened another pandora's box, as few men came without children of their own, which would mean the few hours in a day I had for them would be even less because of step-children's needs, and trying to traverse and bridge values in a newly created blended family. So I did the best I could just single parenting. All-in-all, they have done well for themselves, regardless, finding their own mentors. Their networking is incredible. She confided her troubles to William and let both boys see her distress. And while Charles had one affair - she had many and some of them married men.
William is lucky he got himself through what she did. And Harry who makes all this noise about loving his mother is leaving her memory wide open to be well and truly tarnished.

Poor deeply disturbed man/boy, a hero in his own deluded dreams. Diana was clearly wrong, albeit mentally ill. Charles probably apologized to try and spare the boys these scenes. At least, he was concerned. I'm struck by this especially after watching your Q & A describing the plane story in Harry's book. I was so shocked by that. It was probably his imagination, too. A big part of it is who you go to therapy, look at the recorded 'therapy' session he did that turned out to be with a retired GP. Charles could have had him in with someone good as a child, even then they can only work with what they are given and how honest the person is being. Harry doesn't seem to have any insight into how he contributes to any situation, therefore is bringing a very biased version of events to therapy if he even brings it up in the first place.
Now as an adult he could be seeing anyone and as he is a big proponent of psychedelic therapy, unless he is seeing someone who is part of a research study on it he is seeing someone who is using it off label and probably not as intended for best therapeutic results

They are speculating that you need a higher dose to actually feel the things.
The dose and way that it was being trialed to help with PTSD is different to this microdosing which seems to be being used as a general mood enhancer and antianxiety medication alternative.

Mind you - i think if he was (as I'm suspecting ) the victim of a Naricissistic abuser, he would have been struggling to hold onto his own sanity. He wouldn't have wanted to run to mummy. the staff wouldn't have wanted to escalate their problems because they would fear losing their jobs. Diana was actually a very unpleasant person .. i suspect Harry has married his mummy after all. its just this one is not protected by the palace because she was too arrogant to let the palace protect her. Yes. The newspapers at the time helped her to spread lies about Charles and members of the RF. She made sure from😮 the get go to befriend paparazzi and journalists. Whenever she read something negative, she immediately jumped on the phone complaining and telling them her narrative which was in the news papers the following day, negating the truth in the previous articles. Diana had some very bad traits which the public was never privy to. She for instance knew that Princess Margaret had visited Aids patients for years without fanfare because she actually repected their privacy. So Diana decided to upstage her, tagging her paps and journalists along to create huge headlines. Only one of the reasons why princess Margaret loathed Diana. There was a book published before Andrew Nortons, book which gave an objective picture, not the skewed view, which was clearly written to put Charles in the worst possible light. Before her death, she admitted to falsehoods, regretting that she did it.

The destruction of mental illness has long reaching effects. I suffer from BPD resulting from basically having a narcissistic mother, a loving father, and at an early age, went through the turmoil of parents divorcing. I understand Diana’s actions because I am guilty of them myself with my own family. It’s very sad that either of us suffer from this. I don’t know if Diana was ever actually diagnosed with BPD, but it certainly sounds like she suffered from it. I regret my resulting actions after the fact, and throughout my life I have tried to change my behavior which in my early years I totally didn’t understand, but it seems to arise no matter what I do. It’s an inner struggle constantly. I, too, had a bad relationship with my children’s father and I, too, raised two little boys. I noticed the same behavior in Diana that I suffered myself as I watched her story play out in the press. I still have to sympathize with her. I don’t condone either of our actions, but I totally understand. ❤️Our boys even became the same kind of men, my oldest taking great care in taking the reins he was destined for while my youngest has serious struggles. Neither Diana nor I asked for the lives we were given in many ways and neither of us were prepared to live them. ❤

She sounds always demanding, manipulative and sometimes cruel. And an immature, spoiling &/or self-absorbed mother. Fair take or not hard-core Diana fans would NOT like this book!

Diana was definately flawed with mental health issues. And yes her younger son has married a woman who reminds him of his mother .. through the eyes of a small child her behaviours are amplified .. hence She of the Hobbit feet.
She obviously loved her sons, but turned the eldest into her confidant and the youngest inherited the weaknesses of both parents ..amplified of course. .. many oportunities missed ..imo .. She had the same need for approval on a world scale . .. in this case we are seeing the sins of the mother and father revisited on the child ..

Charles does inspire tremendous loyalty from his Staff, and he treats them with respect. The Spencer family breakdown had alot to do with Diana's fragility. Everyday I appreciate Catherine and the Middletons more and more. Harry should've looked at Pippa as a potential partner, though he'd probably have messed it up.

I agree - Diana's emotions would have been transferred to him (sitting on her knee) as she cried. I'm sure she didn't intend to hurt him - but that would have a pretty deep impact on him. On the other hand - he is NOW an an adult - and has had enough 'therapy' that he should be able to now behave like an adult. He needs to find the courage to escape from his wife's grip - IMO.

I don't agree with what Harry has done but having had a traumatic childhood myself, I can understand Harry's anger. It took me until my late 40's early 50's to make peace with everything.

I because skeptical of the poor Diana when she said that prince William was passing tissues under the door because she was crying. Looking at that huge palace I have to wonder how good of a mother was Diana, that she couldn't hide her personal drama from the kids, or from the public. The time she was in front of the cameras looking very dramatically to the ceiling, that was over acting for the 8th row's sake! Ridiculous.
Prince William grew up balance, he had more of his grandmother's stoicism Harry was seriously damaged and more like her. Trauma in childhood is devastating.

Ok, hold up!!! I have Jack Russells. They are absolutely the smartest dogs! They are the easiest dogs to potty train I've ever had. Right now I have Lily, my 2 yo Jack Russell. She's probably the smartest dog I've ever owned. She knows me better than I know myself! She loves me unconditionally. I literally believe she would die for me. I also have a 5 month old Australian shepherd, and while she's also extremely intelligent, she's a stubborn little brat (well, not little bc she's 50# and full-grown she was supposed to be 40# 😒), and she's still not completely potty trained and has accidents quite often. She also pretends she can't hear me bc we also have a deaf pitbull. She's learned the pit gets away with more bc she's deaf 😂

😂🤣 If it’s your loved pet you don’t mind potty training them! I imagine an employee would resent the additional work! However being a dog lover I would have found it an added bonus! 💗

I can't help but think about random times I have acted out as an adult. It's certainly not common for me but I sure don't want a book written chronicling those events!

I am a sucker for a childlike face. I find it so hard to believe someone with such a lovely face could be so cruel. Ergo Meghan and Dianna are a conundrum to me. As is even a utube interview with a young mother who’d murdered someone after torturing them. She came across as a lovely young woman with an angelic face, so sweet BUT with no remorse. It’s so hard to put together what we know by evidence about these people and the innocent faces they show to us eg the Tom Bradbury interview with Markle.

I still think MM is in a WHOLE different category (universe?) of cruel, ruthless, and nasty. I think Diana acted out in bad ways being a traumatized tormented soul, but still had truly good qualities.

    • @cherylsuegaunt6693
      @cherylsuegaunt6693 6 місяців тому +6

@@hanginlaundry360 I agree with you but I see no redeeming qualities in Meghan at all. Sometimes she seems quite scary, I wonder how the children will turn out. I believe Archie is their child because he has Meghan’s lazy eye but I don’t think she carried him. Lily I’m not sure but I don’t believe she was pregnant with either one of them. Harry always seemed to love children but I think they may keep him so doped up, who knows how much time he spends with the children at this point. A match made in hell in my opinion!
