There are worship songs we can call them "Churchables" or can be sung in a Sunday service, there are others more personal that allow you to express in a deep way what you feel for the Lord and there are others like this, a combination of art and personal experience.
I personally take this song into my prayer and devotional time, when I'm meditating about what God has done for me, through me and in me.
He definitely took my emptiness away.
It is a beautiful meditation on how God creates something from nothing. And He does it in our desperate hearts too. Salvation is not of ourselves.

It's called psalms and proverbs. Aren't all the songs one man's experience speaking to God and Him speaking back.....or not. Proverbs....words of wisdom.... sometimes the church things songs should just be about who got it but didn't David put his prayers and exaltations and frustration and personal life in 2 song?

Every time I hear this, I'm brought back to the time I wanted to end it all and the Father lifted me up and healed my broken heart in the blink of an eye. He taught me some valuable lessons that day. He isn't who we've been told He is. His love is far greater, His light is far brighter. He created this earth and the heavens above. Glory to the Father YHWH The One who is and always will be!

Amen I too was going through depression and when I heard this song it literally erased whatever negative and depressing feeling I had all together and replaced it with not my understanding nor my feelings but the understanding that the Father IS and ALWAYS was.

This song is so raw and intimate. However, it is powerful and shows how we are not truly whole in this world full of earthly promises of material fulfillment and artificial happiness.
I for one love the repetitiveness of this song and many others like this, as God knows how "spiritually deaf" His daughter can be.

My dad just recently passed away. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and I miss him so much. He was my best friend. I've been crying alot through the day when I think of him. This song is helping me.
I lost my daddy Nov 29th. We were very close, and it's been a hard, grieving time. Praying Jesus, the Lord of the Valley of the shadow, will lead us through with increasing strength and depth of intimacy with Him. May we know His comfort in the deepest places of our beings.

This song is for those, who has been hurt by religion, for those who has expirienced darkness and doubts about God, themselves, meaning of it all..but Father's grace through fire has brought us out of this emtiness, ang gave us true love, true live, true expirience of Him. That's why many don't understand this song. It has heavenly sound in it, and only his true children can hear it. Blessings to brothers and sisters! ♥
This song, while it may seem simple on the surface, is such a beautiful, deep, and thoughtful song. The pure thought of something or someone being able to simply SPEAK a word or phrase and darkness to LEAVE is mind-boggling.
The verses also add such a depth to the song. The idea that we can sit down and wait for the Lord is calming, exhilarating, comforting and terrifying all at the same time. We can wait for God to speak into our darkness, and He may come, or He may not.. which is an intense thought. It really puts into perspective how much power God holds.
Yet, for someone with such immense power as to push darkness away with the sound of His voice, He still takes the time to be with us each individually and reply to us with a "silent fire" (which, might I add, is an AMAZING lyric for the way we interact with the Lord). The idea that a God with that much influence and that much power could love us after everything we do is just... beautiful.
This song is amazingly well-written and the music behind the lyrics is also great. Has a nice tribal/negro spiritual drive to it that sits very well with the way the song feels and acts.
I love you guys and everything you stand for, United Pursuit. Thanks for this amazing video (also, super impressive that you can take a lyric video and tell such a good story with it).

The emptiness is when we food our souls with our will. We are made to be in constant intimacy w our Maker. So we will always be filled. Being at the holy place everyday (praying, reading his word, worshipping him without anyone seeing), is the key to the heart of God. He wants us, he wants to take that emptiness.

I had to get to the point of giving up. I couldn’t do life on my own anymore. I’m a drug addict with no self control. I’m powerless over my life. I heard a voice in my head. Kind of like a thought telling me to let go. I felt a rush. A euphoric rush in my body. Instantly, I started crying, and calling God father. I didn’t do this on my own. I owe it all to our Heavenly Father. I did not even know this feeling was possible. The word came alive to me. I feel isolated in my experience. It feels good to hear this song and see your comments. My family treats me like I lost my mind when I tell this to them. I feel strong knowing that they called Jesus crazy also. Look how wrong they were.
Not an unusual thing...God knows you and knows your language - how to speak in a way that you understand. He invaded my life like never before in 2005 and I will never be the same! Praising God for what He had done in you, for you, and through you!
Willard Casto When God said you will become a new person He was not joking. I have a hard time finding somebody who can relate. This experience was so overwhelming and beautiful at the same. When I tried opening up about it to friends and family nobody believed me. The Bible was opened up to me also. I can understand and comprehend the Bible now like never before. Like you, I will never be the same. I know it’s true because the Bible tells me so.

Worship is an expression of the heart and it has every heartbeat. Also the heartbeat of fear, anxiety, depression and pain. Self-pity and depression and more can be washed off from the heart in a song/prayer by God, where God reminds someone that He is the light that wants to shine in the dark area of the heart. Especially during the struggle that a heart of emptiness has. He speaks, while such a person gives his burdens to God.
Let Him shine and let Him take emptiness away! By the way ... depression sounds and is scary. This song has well portrayed that expression.

If anyone deserves a leave pass regarding repetition it’s United Pursuit whose music has a kind of negro spiritual feel to it. Such music is repetitive. “You are my joy, you are my joy” etc. This song says one thing repeatedly because darkness and despair is what grips the world and it’s helpful to those who despair day after day to repeatedly hear that there is a Voice that has spoken into it and can set them free. It’s tiresome to hear ridiculous critiques about the same words repeated. Those who make such criticisms presumably don’t approve of the book of Revelation where angels sing “holy, holy, holy” over again. They’re so new age those angels! Or the Psalm I read today, 136 which repeats “His love endures forever” 26 times! We need to grow up in our analysis of art. I presume that there are some believers who think that the statue of David is pornographic.
The criticism that the song doesn’t say who the voice is that is speaking is equally ridiculous. It’s not your uncle Roger speaking, is it?
This is a BRILLIANT piece of art which will connect especially in city churches.
We have a real battle in the church with ensuring that worship music is properly earthed and relates to real discipleship. But can we have the battle in the place where it actually needs to occur? As part of winning the battle we need worship songwriters to write songs that express commitment to God not just in statements of adoration but in actual practical expressions of worship. “I give you my privacy”. “I commit to loving the unlovely”. That kind of thing.
If you lead worship at your church and the only thing you do is play this video for your church service without adding to the message well obviously it’s you that has some thinking to do about what makes an effective worship session. I wouldn’t use this in a worship session at all. I’d use it to send a message when there otherwise wouldn’t be one. I was very moved by it. It felt prophetic. It will help to “dig a hole” and those who are wise will speak clear ideas about God and salvation to fill that hole.

The repetition forces me to admit disagreement with Truth or walk away. It's funny but if someone went in for a sport therapy massage, and the therapist touched a muscle group for 1 second and then said, "No reason to be repetitive on to the next muscle group!" the therapy wouldn't work and would be a waste of time. The therapist has to stay on a muscle until it releases and then the blood will entered the damaged muscle and start to heal it. In the same way, the repetition draws out where we disagree and lie to God and if we let it, our soul will release and allow the blood of God to heal are wounded souls.
Amen! I hate when people make sweeping generalizations about worship music like comments on repetition. I thought the same thing about Revelation! It's always man trying to make up laws and rules to govern the heart. An eternal malady that will one day be forever healed I'm Christ.
Some good points. It's a pity that some seem to have monopolized the understanding of what a worship song is. I too don't see this being sung primarily in a Sunday service setting. But if I am worshiping as I work at my desk, isn't that still worship? Eph. 5:26 talks about Jesus washing us with the water of His Word. The repetition is like a washing process. Choral music has been doing this for hundreds of years.
When it comes to singing or praying with repetition, one might question whether God heard us the first time. The issue isn't with God. Many time we repeat prayers (like Paul in Eph. 1:17) because we ourselves haven't really HEARD our real prayer. As we repeat the words, we are confronted with what we are really asking and are invited to get real about our requests or our desire for God.
So much of the church appears immature in its constant bickering and biting of one another. Paul could look above/beyond such pettiness (see I Cor. 1-2). Christians have been meditating on scripture with repetition for hundreds of years (as well as singing it).
So well said. This song goes past barriers into the hidden soul. The criticisms come from a lack of the gifts of the Spirit. People mean well but we can so often work hard at the letter of the law and completely miss the Spirit. We can miss the presence of Christ altogether so caught up in crossing our eyes and dotting our Ts when in God's sight our best handwriting doesn't equal a 2 yr olds.

When it comes to whether something is “Spirit led” it’s about what it says, yes? And thank goodness for that or otherwise we might need to trust the comments of people like yourself who say nothing about the actual message of the video as if you you need only use your gift of discernment that the Holy Spirit has been involved. There are such gifts of discernmemt but they relate to prophecy, whereas this video contains basic statements that can be compared to the teaching of Scripture. I therefore think you should simply engage, if you think it’s needed, in comment about whether the idea in the video is true and helpful to say.
